Alberta Wildfire is sending support south of the border to fight wildfires in the U.S.

Alberta Wildfire is sending support south of the border to fight wildfires in the U.S.

Over the weekend, 11 wildfire personnel will travel to Oregon. 12 more, including two crews of firefighters will be sent to Washington.

The wildfire conditions across Alberta continue to remain at a lower risk, allowing us to send resources where they’re needed.

And they're off! More Alberta Wildfire firefighters and support staff left for B.C. and Ontario today. This brings the total to nearly 700 Albertans supporting wildfire efforts in other provinces since the start of the 2026 wildfire season.

Currently, 81 Alberta Wildfire crew members and support staff are assisting with wildfire suppression efforts in Quebec.

These requests are coordinated by the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre. We are happy to provide firefighters, aerial firefighting resources and coordination expertise when wildfire activity is low in the province.

When another province calls, Alberta shows up.

Currently the fire activity in Alberta is some of the lowest we’ve seen in over 3 years.

We have 94 Alberta Wildfire firefighters and support staff on the ground in Ontario, along with three bird dog aircraft, eight airtankers and two heavy helitankers working the fire line alongside Ontario crews.

Alberta has been on the receiving end of this kind of help more than once, and we have never forgotten it. Ontario sent people west when we needed them. We are glad to return the favour.

To every Albertan who put their hand up for this deployment, thank you. Stay safe out there!
