First time being a Asm….kinda nervous but excited

Hello, recently I was recently promoted to being an assistant manger and I was wondering If I will be expecting more things such as training ilearners or more hands on practice once things get more finalized. And if so, should I try and write down as much as possible in order to make sure I don’t miss anything important? I heard there was a lot of information that can be shared with ASM’s

Any odd customer interactions?

Just a genuine question because I’m curious, but what is the oddest or strange customer interactions you’ve had, that started of completely normal?

for me it would have to be yesterday where this one regular we have (he’s like this one customer who’s like always on their phone and doesn’t exactly smile or really say anything) and I’m asking him, “how are you doing?” because I usually ask anyone that, and then in this normal tone he responds with (and i don’t think he meant this in a rude, way I think its something he says to a lot of people quite often) “how are you doing ho?”

mind you, ive had customers who would call me nicknames, that can be odd, but never in a rude or derogatory way. this felt like one of those, though I’m not comfortable with it becuase I don’t know this guy like that. plus any interactions I’ve had with him were always strange for some reason??? (I think other cashiers at my store have similair encounters with this person)

luckily after this, he didn’t come back and I actually had a lot of fun seeing more of my nicer regulars and talking with them while I was closing.

Im genuinely trying to figure out what to do, I'm so sure my suspicions are correct.

Hello, I wondering if I could get advice on how to proceed from here before my SM confronts me about it. Because I know for a fact they won't hear me out, on what I may say or possibly side with the other party. :(

Last night during closing, I had learned that my drawer was short. And not just by a few dollars, I mean a exact 59 DOLLARS short. And I was so confused because I know for a fact that I couldn't have caused it, mainly because 1. Almost everyone either paid in exactly change or had a amount that wouldn't result in me giving them back alot of change (so it would either be one or five dollars bills) Or 2. The cashback that was there yesterday, were large bill amounts that immediately were broken down into smaller bills, making it easier for the customer to have around and for me to make sure I give back the right amount.

And while I'm racking my brain trying to figure things out, I realize that my new-ish (he was once a stocker/cashier) asm had done a visa gift card for me and I feel like he may have messed up somehow. Because while he was working with it, he literally CASHED out the gift card plus the items that were already on the register (I wasn't even FINISHED ringing the customer up and they had their credit card out waiting for us to be done.) and when he realized what he did, he literally did a return for the gift card. 😬 So the customer basically didn't even pay for the gift card, there wasn't even a post void done after either.

He also took a long time with the customer too, because he told me to open another register (his register) so I can take the like of customers behind the first one. And when I came back to my register afterwards, I found two visa cards on my counter, which I immediately knew was used, because he was confused on whether once a gift card was used, if it can be used or would have to be damaged.

I'm planning on confronting my SM about it later but also talk with another ASM who I talk with often about things in the store and gives me advice on things as well, because I do not want to warrant a write up that I know I couldn't have caused. But at the same time I feel like I would need more evidence to back me up, and I wanted to know if there was a way I could pull up information from yesterday.

Our store has recently got more of these in stock and I'm so obsessed with them. I would buy them for my other co workers whenever I get a chance because I feel like they deserve a sweet treat :)

I actually thought for my manager because it was a rough day for us.

EDIT: I meant to say struck lol
