This is my friends monitor, he got it just a few months ago and this happened to it recently. He bought a new one and i'm thinking of buying it off him for a discount, so just wanted to know if this is permanent

not the best pics sorry, yes I have headset hair too but this is what It looks like shortly after drying it off. It looks like hay, it’s so straight and thick that I feel like it’s impossible to style, and it constantly just retracts to the shape it dried in. I want to have a messy/curly longer hair look but I don’t know what I can do about it. Any tips for haircuts, products or anything I can do to improve this?
this is definitely not that accurate btw, the snippet is so low quality you can barely make out the melody sounds. about as good as I could do though
