Action 4 vs Action 5 Pro vs Action 6 - D-Log M grading / cinematic look (I know this has been asked a thousand times already 😅)

I know this comparison has been asked a million times already, and I’ve gone through Reddit, YouTube, comparisons, sample footage, etc. — but I still haven’t found a really clear answer for my specific use case.

I’m currently debating between the DJI Action 4 / Action 5 Pro / Action 6 (less for 6).

I already know the typical advantages people mention about the 5 Pro (low-light improvements, battery life, newer hardware, etc.), but honestly I’m already satisfied with what the Action 4 can do in those areas, so that’s not really what’s making the decision difficult for me.

For context - I already own an Osmo Pocket 3, and I absolutely understand why people recommend it for cinematic footage. I think it looks amazing.

But for me it’s just not durable / rugged enough to become my everyday camera. I want something I can actually throw in a bag, take outside without thinking too much, move fast with, and use more casually and consistently.

So I’m specifically looking at the Action line as a more practical everyday camera.

My main priority is D-Log M and color grading potential.

What I care about most:

Which camera captures more fine detail / perceived sharpness once graded?

Which one gives a more natural-looking base image before grading?

Which one feels less like an action cam and more like a small cinema camera after color work?

Which one gives more room to push the grade without the image breaking apart?

Does one of them look noticeably better in D-Log M specifically, or are the differences mostly gone once graded properly?

What’s making this hard is that I’ve seen insanely good-looking D-Log M footage from all of them. At this point I genuinely can’t tell whether one is actually better, or if it mostly comes down to who’s behind the camera and the grade 😅

Would especially love input from people who’ve actually graded footage from more than one of these instead of comparing straight-out-of-camera footage but everyone are welcome :)

THANKS!
