Is the DJI OSMO 4 Action camera waterproof rating accurate without the case?

Hello, I just got my first DJI Osmo 4 Action camera and noticed it had a waterproofing up to 18m. I don't plan to go to depths beyond 10-15 feet at this time so well below the stated limit. Does the base design hold up fairly well to that 18m as advertised? Or should I play it safe and not mess with using it in water until I have that casing? What are your experiences? First time using an action camera since my old GoPro Hero 5 back in 2016 or so.

Any insights on action 6.

Just bought this on prime sale for around 38k INR (Standard Combo). I don't know any thing about action camera or cameras overall. I thought about buying a mirrorless camera around the same price. But I cannot afford to buy accessories like good lens. Also I can mount this on my helmet and it's waterproof. So I don't have to care much about. How I am going to store it.

Now I am planning a trip to a hill station. It is monsoon season over there. So it's gonna be mostly rainy (Sunlight gonna be like minimum to nothing at all). Kindly share your experience with this camera and best settings for video. Also is it any good for taking pictures?

Do I need to buy ND filters? I did some research on these and my conclusion is ND filter is only useful. When outdoor light is too bright. As I mentioned, the place planned go is not gonna have that much of harsh sunlight. If ND filters are really must have for this. Please provide your suggestion on which brand to go with.

Action 4 for a vlog? Good enough?

I have an Action 4 for climbing, hiking yet I am off to China for a city trip and want to do some vlogs without buying a new camera. I got a smallrig 1/4 black mist filer to soften up my image and added a bit of motion blur (mostly in post to allow my stabilisation to work better).

This was a practice vlog from my day out in London.

Please let me know what you think and if you have any feedback regarding settings/shot ideas or if I really do need a pocket camera.

Dji Osmo 4 vs 5 vs 6

I have recently been hiking a lot as it’s a new hobby i had been wanting to start for a long time. I’ve gone once a week for the past 3 months, I also run and I’ve been wanting to start some sort of TikTok channel as a cool little side thing to have fun I’ve been seeing a lot of people prefer the 4 and 5 over the 6 mainly because of the camera issues or the color looking grainy if you guys recommend me anything I would appreciate it and if you can help me compare them I’d appreciate it a lot. I understand they’re older vs newer but I’d still like some people’s opinion, thank you!

First time going under water with action 5

Very happy with results!! Amazing quality. But does anyone know why it does that sudden slow motion towards the beginning? On the DJI mimo app it’s regular speed but when I download the videos they all come out with this slow motion take.

Action 4 solid (Non quick release) mount?

I use my Action 4 in a rally car that means it experiences huge vibrations. My previous camera (Drift Ghost S) had a 1/4-20 mount right on the camera and there was no significant visible vibration in the shot (https://youtu.be/1LMfIAxeb0E) but moving to the Action 4 and its Quick release magnet/clips on the same mount I get lots of camera shake (https://youtu.be/NAo_pgmkUsk).

I don't want to turn the in-camera stability on because I much prefer the car interior is locked and the outside moves, I think it conveys the experience better. Having stability turns on makes everything 'floaty'.

Are there any good cages or rigs that I'm not finding in my searches with a solid 1/4-20 mount? They all seem to assume you're going to keep using the quick release adapters.

DJI action 6. Looks bad panning in my videos.

Just posting a few clips from a family trip to Japan, and after watching them back I’ve noticed that panning left and right often looks pretty rough. Is this just normal for action cameras?

On the trip I was shooting in 4K 30fps with RockSteady enabled. My shutter was set to Auto (1/100 to 1/8000) and ISO was Auto (100 to 1600).

Since getting home I’ve been experimenting with other settings. I tried following the 180 degree shutter rule by shooting 25fps with a 1/50 shutter, but I found the stabilization looked much worse while walking. I’ve since been testing 1/100 and 1/200 with ND filters, but even then, pans can still look a bit unpleasant.

I’m trying to work out whether this is:

Just normal behaviour for action cameras,

Something in my settings,

RockSteady interacting with shutter speed,

Or simply that I’m panning too quickly.

I guess I expected an action camera to be a bit more forgiving, but if it’s mostly technique and I need to slow my pans down, I’m happy to work on that.
Any advice, recommended settings, or filming techniques would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Action4 set default mode to Video?

I’ve had my Action4 for Mtb trail vids for a while now & it’s great apart from one annoying feature. I only use video record mode & start /stop my recordings with the top button, however sometimes I find it’s swapped back to photo mode which is annoying when I wanted to start recording an mtb segment in flight. This seems to happen more if I haven’t used it for a few days but it very annoying when it does as I have to stop and change modes . Can I stop this mode change happening or is it a “feature” ?

Osmo Pocket 4P

I think I like the black color better but the white version is better for hot and sunny days. What’s your preference?

Does brand matter - wide angle?

I failed to buy the creator package, so I’m now looking around at various wide angle lenses. Have you found that the DJI brand has any particular benefits? If you use a different brand, which do you use and why? In your opinion, is there a good case or scenario for having more than one brand? I’m new to video in general so my questions could be very pedestrian so I appreciate any feedback. Please and thanks.
