New Action 6 firmware 1.04.14.02

Was really hoping for film tones in 1:1 mode, but I guess not this time.

It also added a second screen of options from the Swipe Down menu, giving quicker access to settings like external mics, grid lines, full front screen, ect.

Kayaking grip suggestions (OA6)

I will be going kayaking soon and was wondering what is the best grip to hold the Action 6?

The chest strap seems a bit low and i think the videos wouldn't have a nice look. Also checked the head strap and seems a bit high and I don't want the POV look. Should I go with a hand held stick (which wont let me paddle at the same time). I already have the underwater set with the housing and stick.

Would appreciate some suggestions if you have done the same.

Osmo Action 6 vs Action 4 coming from GoPro 7 Black — worth it, and what accessories are essential?

I’m considering upgrading from my old GoPro Hero 7 Black to an Osmo Action camera, most likely the Action 6.

One thing that matters to me: I’d prefer to keep additional accessories to a minimum. I’m not looking to build a huge ecosystem of batteries, mounts, cages, filters, etc. Ideally I want something that works great out of the box with only a few essentials.

A few questions for those who have made the switch:

  • What accessories do you consider truly necessary for the Osmo Action series?
  • Will my GoPro Hero 7 mounts/accessories work with the Action 6?
  • I can currently get the Osmo Action 4 for about half the price of the Action 6. Is the Action 6 actually worth double the cost in real-world use?

For context, I mainly use action cameras for travel, hiking, casual outdoor filming, and occasional biking. Low-light performance and stabilization matter more to me than extreme sports features.

Would love to hear from people who’ve used both the Action 4 and Action 6, especially if you also came from an older GoPro generation.

Settings for capturing speed with the DJI Action 6

One of the biggest obstacles of recording POV driving is that he sensation of speed is hard to capture. Even at 130mph+ it seems slower than experiencing it in person. After many trials, I come up with a setup I'm happy with.

I'm using a DJI Action 6, but these same settings can be adapted to almost any camera.

There are three things I find most important in capturing the sensation of speed:

Audio - Recording the exhaust and engine noise. I have a DJI Mic 2 magnetically mounted near the license plate. Gain is set to -12.

Motion Blur - That cinematic look. The environment, lines and road blur, whisking by. To accomplish this, I lock the shutter speed to 1/60. In daylight, this results in a blown out, overly bright video. So I use a K&F ND64 filter to darken the shot.

FOV - This is set to Ultrawide with Rocksteady OFF. Letting the video shake a bit, to me, captures the chaos a bit more, adding to that sensation of speed. If you want to use Rocksteady, the camera will crop the frame, reducing FOV. I use the DJI FOV Boost Lens to get that FOV back, plus some. My ND filters, however, do not fit over the FOV boost lens. We need a ND filter that will fit over the FOV boost lens in order to lock shutter speed at 1/60, otherwise the video will be blown out.

I think it worked out pretty well. It still seems a bit slower than it does in real life, but it's a big improvement over my older footage where I just shot everything on auto.

Here are my settings for this video:

4k 16:9

30fps

5800K

1/60

100-800 ISO

D-LogM

F/4

NR -2

Texture -2

Ultrawide - NO FOV LENS!

Rocksteady OFF

Is this action 4 bundle worth it?

It’s currently $260 (third party)

My son wants to start his trips to water parks, so I assume this is everything he might need

DJI Pocket 4 Review: What Nobody Tells You

Has DJI totally missed the mark with the Pocket 4? Is it a worthwhile upgrade to the Pocket 3? It seems that nobody is talking about this, and you need to know before buying. In this DJI Pocket 4 review, I go through the main problems I came across, so you don't have to. I hope you find this helpful (and entertaining!).

Osmo Action 6 - Variable Aperture

I've read a few posts about the variable aperture, but they all seems to have been made about 6-7 months ago and I'm wondering if the issues have been addressed in a more current firmware.

We use Osmo Actions on our rally car, we have 2 5 Pro's, and 1 4, we are looking to upgrade the 4 to a 6 and place it on the roof. Since lighting conditions vary a lot on each stage, the variable aperture is very enticing, however I need to know if it will work with the settings I intend to use.

Since we use ND filters, we shoot in manual, 30fps, 1/60 shutter, ISO 100-3200, DLOG 10-bit.

I would like to have the aperture be able to do more of the lifting so I don't need to rely on ISO as much and maybe step the ND64 down to an ND32.

Does variable aperture work while shooting video in manual mode now?

Thinking about getting a DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro — looking for real-world advice from current owners.

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all are doing well.

For context, I’m not a hardcore action sports guy or content creator. I’m more looking for an easy “life capture” camera for:

  • parks/playgrounds with the kids
  • cottage trips
  • beaches/lakes
  • Thailand/Japan travel
  • walking around
  • POV/family moments
  • quick clips/photos while on the move

What’s attracting me is:

  • waterproofing
  • stabilization
  • portability
  • ability to clip it to a backpack/chest/hat
  • easy grab-and-record convenience
  • ability to extract stills from video if needed

I originally started looking at Fuji/Nikon mirrorless cameras, but realized I may actually value convenience and spontaneity more for this stage of life.

A few questions for current users:

  1. Is the Action 5 Pro actually good enough for family/travel photography and casual videos?
  2. Would you recommend the Standard or Adventure Combo?
  3. Which accessories ended up being genuinely useful vs wasted money?
  4. Any must-have mounts for family/travel use?
  5. How is low-light performance realistically at parks/restaurants/night markets/etc?
  6. Any regrets going DJI over GoPro?
  7. Do you still use it regularly months later, or did the novelty wear off?

Appreciate any insight from real-world users before I jump in 🙏

ND Filters vs high shutter speed?

Usually I record in automatic mode. The only customization I do is recording in DLog10 and applying the DJI LUT when editing. I don't tweak any of the other settings.

I watched a few Youtube videos and finally learnt what White Balance, ISO, etc mean. And was manually setting them today. I shot mostly indoors and when I did go outside, the video was too bright. I was at 400 ISO, 2100K, 24 FPS, 1/50, 4K.

I cranked up the WB to 5400K and lowered the ISO to 100, but saw no effect in the video being too bright. So, I switched to Automatic to see what the camera would do to bring the video to normal. It did bring the video to look normal again, but I saw that it had cranked up the shutter speed to 1/5000. It was pretty bright and sunny outside.

I guess this relates to the tip I also saw in the video about using high shutter speeds(that are not 2x the frame rate but much higher), in case you don't have ND filter and are shooting in bright environments.

Do you folks generally use ND filters or just crank up the frame rates? I just capture videos whenever I travel, which is about once in 2 weeks. And its a hobby not a full time thing. So, not sure if ND filters are going to be overkill. They are also a pain to carry and fit / remove every time you go indoor to outdoor and back. But that's my assumption. I've never used them before. Trying to get inputs from your experience so far.

Action 5 Pro FPS info

Hello! I recently got an Osmo Action 5 Pro, and will be using it primarily for mountain biking.

I noticed when selecting 4k, it keeps saying to use 50fps(?) but have never seen anyone actually talk about frame rates other than 30 or 24.

Could anyone provide some insight on which framerates should be used for which situations? On my phone I always use 4k 60, since 24 looks incredibly choppy, and 30 isn't very smooth, but I know action cameras are quite a bit different.

Thanks

XM5 v Pocket 4/P - case to still own both?

Any hybrid shooters leaning more video-first stuck between these newer pocket cameras and keeping a mirrorless setup?

The Pocket 4/4 Pro line is getting surprisingly good now — ~38MP stills, Fuji-style film looks baked in, adjustable strength, way more “ready to post” SOOC than older generations.

Current setup:
- iPhone 17 Pro
- Fuji XM5
- Sigma 15mm f/1.4
- 27mm pancake

I’m debating whether to:

  1. sell the Fuji kit entirely and go more frictionless with Pocket + iPhone, or
  2. keep the XM5 + 27mm mainly as a dedicated stills camera.

The Sigma 15 1.4 gives such a nice cinematic look, but selling it alone would fund a huge chunk of the Pocket 4/4P.

Anyone running both types of setups? Curious if you ended up simplifying or regretted selling the interchangeable lens system.

So many options, newbie, want to hear from the community!

Hi Everyone,

there is so many options in the DJI world and Insta360 world I am having a hard time to decided and was looking to see comments from the community on thoughts and their own preferences.

Looking to document more of our travels and I feel like I missed out on our last few trips to Portugal and Japan. We are not content creators but I wouldn't mind maybe in the future to learn to compile all our footage as a recap of our trips and make some memories. Our next trip major trip is to iceland and it has promoted me to look into these devices.

Mainly walking videos, POV, Still shots, maybe some following

So many reviews breakdowns and etc and its been a bit overwhelming.

I think I am down to the DJI Nano/Go Ultra form factor to DJI action/Ace pro. Possible the pocket styles might not be durable enough/large size also? but open to hearing from you guys.

I have also built a ok home network and will have access to my NAS as we travel to offload videos (of course if network is good) but thoughts on that too.

appericate it, and if I have left any info out, ask and I will answer!

Need Help with how to edit dji mic 2 and dji mic mini audio recorded in Osmo Pocket 3

Hello Osmo Pocket community! Ran into a roadblock editing my osmo pocket 3 and trying to find the two separate audio tracks of my dji mic 2 and mic mini in premier pro, I need to adjust the mic mini's volume since it was too low, the other is fine, but I do fear that I may be a fool in not knowing if that's even possible. since I didn't buy the original product and just had the mic 2 that came with creator's pack and bought a solo mic mini without transmitter. But I would like to know if it's still possible to edit the tracks separately, I'm very new to video editing and owning wireless mics so please excuse my ignorance to these things. Thank you for your time!

tldr: how do i edit my Osmo Pocket 3 footage, separating the audio of my Mic 2 and Mic mini in Premier Pro (both without transmitters)
