[Update] I did it!!

After the last post with my Y bridge not fitting I called the local diesel shop to see if they could, or were willing, do finish the job for me. At first they said yes, then they never returned my call, then they did and just flat out said that they weren’t interested which means that now I get to do it myself. Managed to drill and tap the stripped hole in the intake manifold for a helicoil repair using quite a number of 1/4” extensions backwards to give myself the clearance needed to tap the hole straight. Fortunately the bolt hole that striped was top front driver so it was pretty easy to get to. After that everything else went pretty smoothly. Had to remove a bracket on the driver side to get the intercooler pipe to fit and then move the bracket that the grid heater mounts to a bolt forward to get that to fit, but other than that there wasn’t really any major issues. Truck sounds way cooler now. Next up it’s getting exhaust manifolds and a LB7 passenger side up pipe as I do not trust the plate that came with my block off kit. Also going to do the coolant reservoir, upper coolant pipe, and brake reservoir cover all in separate colors just to kinda break it up a bit. Add some personality. Gotta do fluids and filters, but aside from that she runs and drives well enough to go back to being my daily.

[Hypothetical] Building a truck from scratch

Had a random thought while trying to work on my Duramax. If you could build a truck from frame rails up, what would you want on it? I’d want there to be like four connections from the engine bay to the inside of the cab so pulling a cab would take ten minutes.

[Update] Y bridge doesn’t fit

Spent the last five, almost six hours, trying to get this Y bridge to fit. At first it was hitting some stuff so I removed the material via a grinder so that wasn’t an issue anymore, now it just isn’t sitting low enough for me to get the bolts into it. I have no idea why it won’t sit any lower.

What a huge PITA

I knew doing this install (not pictured) was going to suck major balls, but holy fuck. Shop quoted me thirteen hours to do my intake kit and EGR removal. Here I am at ten and a half hours later and at the halfway point.
