GLP-1s and alcohol: what to know if you’re drinking this weekend

With Fourth of July this weekend, I thought it’d be helpful to share a few things to know about drinking alcohol while on a GLP-1.

GLP-1s aren’t known to have a dangerous direct interaction with alcohol, but that doesn’t mean alcohol feels the same for everyone while taking them.

Some few things to keep in mind:

  • Alcohol may hit differently. Some people say they feel buzzed faster, while others say they don’t feel as interested in drinking or don’t feel the effects the same way.
  • It may make side effects worse. Alcohol can irritate your stomach and may make nausea, reflux, indigestion, or stomach discomfort more noticeable.
  • You may want to be extra mindful around dose day. If you tend to feel side effects most strongly right after your dose (or on a specific day after dosing) that may not be the best time to drink.
  • Try not to drink on an empty stomach. Eating beforehand may help reduce stomach irritation and can be especially important for people watching blood sugar.
  • Hydrate. Drinking water between alcoholic drinks can help, especially if you’re outside in the heat.
  • Be mindful of sugary drinks. Cocktails, frozen drinks, and mixers can add a lot of sugar and calories quickly.

If you do drink, taking it slow and checking in with how you feel is the move.

Has anyone noticed alcohol feels different since starting a GLP-1?

How to switch to a multi-month Ro Body membership

I’ve been getting some questions about how to switch from a monthly Ro Body membership to a multi-month plan, so resharing the basics here!

Ro Body members can choose a 3-, 6-, or 12-month membership in their Ro account. Multi-month memberships let you prepay and save on the membership cost.

Current membership options:

  • Monthly: $149/month
  • 3-month: $297 every 3 months — $99/month
  • 6-month: $534 every 6 months — $89/month
  • 12-month: $888 every 12 months — $74/month

Please note: GLP-1 medication is not included in the membership cost and is billed separately.

How to switch:

Go to Membership and subscriptions in your Ro account. From there, you can view your membership details, see available multi-month options, select your billing cadence, and check out.

Your multi-month membership will start after your current month ends. It renews automatically, and you’ll be charged at the start of each billing period.

Can you cancel?

Yes, you can cancel anytime in your Ro account. Membership fees are nonrefundable, but you’ll still have access to your benefits and can keep requesting and receiving refills of your GLP-1 prescription until the end of your prepaid period.

You can also manage your medication subscription and view upcoming charges from Membership and subscriptions in your account.

Weekly support questions: refills, orders, and shipping

Hi everyone! This weekly thread is here to help keep questions about refills, order processing, tracking, held orders, and shipping in one place.

We’ve also made a few updates to make the shipping process more transparent, including more visibility into where your next shipment stands. You can read more here: LINK

If you have a general question about your refill, order status, held order, processing timeline, or shipping, feel free to ask it below or send me a PM.

A few quick notes:

If your order says “processing”
Your order may still be moving through the required steps before it ships. Timing can vary depending on your order, treatment plan, and where it is in the process. Processing typically takes 1–4 days.

If your order is “held”
A held order usually means there’s something that needs to happen before the order can move forward. If you have questions about a held order, you can ask them in this thread or check your Ro account for any next steps.

If you’re waiting on a refill
Refill timing can vary. In some cases, additional review or information may be needed before the next order can move forward. Refills are typically processed close to the last dose of your current medication.

If you’re waiting on tracking
Tracking is typically shared once it’s available for your order. There may be some time between an order being processed and tracking becoming available.

If tracking says delivered but you don’t have your package
Check your Ro account for the most up-to-date shipping details. You may also want to check around your front door, lobby, mailroom, package room, or with neighbors/building staff. If it still hasn’t turned up, reach out to Ro Support through your account so the team can help look into it.

Please don’t share personal health information, prescription details, addresses, screenshots with identifying information, or order numbers publicly in this thread.

What kind of AMA would you want to see next?

We’ve done a couple AMAs in here with experts, including a clinical psychologist and a physician board-certified in obesity medicine and I’d love to hear what would be most helpful next.

What kind of AMA would you be interested in?

A few ideas:

  • Registered dietitian / nutrition expert
  • Fitness or strength training expert
  • Another obesity medicine doctor
  • Someone who’s been on a GLP-1 long-term

I’ll also re-share the past AMAs in the comments for anyone who missed them.

Let me know in the comments so I can get something cooking!

What’s next for GLP-1s? A few takeaways from ADA 2026

The American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions happened earlier this month, and we had folks from Ro’s Scientific Affairs team there following the latest updates in weight loss and metabolic health.

They shared a few things they found especially interesting:

1. Retatrutide is showing major weight loss potential

One medication getting a lot of attention is retatrutide, which is still being studied in clinical trials.

What stood out: the weight loss seen in some retatrutide trials is getting closer to what has historically been associated with bariatric surgery. Even the lowest studied dose showed weight loss in the same general range as high dose Wegovy in earlier studies.

Researchers are also looking beyond the number on the scale. Some retatrutide trials showed improvements in other health markers and obesity-related conditions, which is part of why there’s so much interest in what this next wave of medications could mean.

2. The future may not just be about “more weight loss”

As newer medications show stronger results, the next wave of innovation may focus on things like:

  • Fewer injections
  • Better tolerability
  • More flexible dosing
  • Helping providers personalize treatment
  • Managing side effects while still supporting progress

Some companies are studying monthly dosing or even longer dosing intervals, while others are exploring combinations that may help with both weight loss and tolerability.

3. Access is still a major conversation

A big part of the discussion was not just what medications are coming next, but how people will actually access them.

That includes questions around insurance coverage, cash-pay options, affordability, and how care gets delivered directly to patients via telehealth.

Overall, it feels like the GLP-1 space is moving quickly, not just toward more medications, but toward more options.

Curious what people here care about most when thinking about future GLP-1s: stronger results, fewer side effects, fewer injections, lower cost, or easier access?

We’re making it easier to track upcoming shipments

We know shipping and order status questions come up here a lot, especially around when your next shipment is expected and what step your order is currently in.

We heard you and are rolling out a new shipment transparency feature to make this easier to track. This feature will be rolling out on web only first, with iOS coming later this week.

You may now see more details about your upcoming shipment, including statuses like:

  • Estimated for next month: Your next shipment is expected next month, but it may not be ready for action yet.
  • Refill eligible: You may be eligible to start the refill process.
  • Check-in completed: Your check-in has been submitted and the next step is review.
  • Approved: Your refill has been approved and is moving toward fulfillment.
  • Processing: Your order is being prepared.
  • In transit: Your shipment is on the way.
  • Delivered: Your shipment has been delivered.
  • Held: There’s something you may need to do before the shipment can move forward.
  • Canceled: The shipment or refill is no longer moving forward.

The goal is to give you more visibility before and during the refill process, instead of only seeing updates once an order is already created or shipped.

A couple things to keep in mind.

  • If your shipment says “held” or shows that an action is needed, check your account for next steps
  • If something looks off or you’re worried about timing, especially around travel or running out of medication, it’s still best to contact support

Below are a few screenshots so you can see what the new status updates look like- let me know if you have any questions!

Wondering how much protein to aim for on a GLP-1?

I know protein gets talked about a lot in this sub- how much to eat, how to get enough in, and what actually sounds good when your appetite is lower.

We have a free protein calculator that gives you a starting protein goal based on your current weight, activity level, and goals- whether you’re focused on weight loss, maintaining muscle, or building strength.

Try it here and let me know what you think!

Package says delivered but you don’t have it?

This comes up here from time to time (and can be stressful) so here’s what to do.

First, check your Ro account for the most up-to-date shipping details. That’s the best place to track your order and see the latest status.

If tracking says your order was delivered but you don’t have it, reach out to Ro Support so the team can help look into it. You can also PM me to help- but please message support first so it’s in their inbox.

Also, be sure to check:

  • Around your front door, porch, lobby, mailroom, or package room
  • With a doorman, front desk, or building staff
  • With neighbors or household members, in case someone grabbed it for safekeeping
  • That the delivery address in your Ro account looks right

Let me know if you have any questions!

Flying, driving, or traveling abroad with GLP-1 meds?

Summer travel is underway, so sharing a few reminders for anyone bringing GLP-1 medication with them, whether you’re flying, driving, or heading abroad.

A few tips:

  • If you’re flying: Keep your medication in your carry-on instead of a checked bag so it stays with you and avoids extreme temperatures.
  • If you’re driving: Don’t leave medication in a hot car, glove compartment, or trunk. Heat can affect it.
  • If you’re using ice packs: Try not to let the medication touch ice directly, since freezing can also ruin it.
  • If you’re traveling abroad: Check the rules for the country you’re visiting and consider keeping medication in its original packaging with your prescription info.
  • Before you leave: Make sure you know how long your medication can safely be out of the fridge and what temperature range applies to your specific pen or vial. Just did a post on this here!

And if you’re ever unsure whether your medication got too hot, too cold, or was stored correctly, check with your provider before using it.

Anyone traveling anywhere fun this summer? I’m headed back to the midwest for my little niece's birthday in August 😄

How long can Zepbound or Wegovy stay out of the fridge?

This comes up a lot, especially when meds are delivered or you’re traveling, so thought Id share the basic storage info:

Zepbound single-dose pens

  • Store in the fridge at 36°F–46°F
  • Keep in the original carton to protect from light
  • If needed, they can be kept at room temp, up to 86°F, for up to 21 days
  • After use, discard the pen or vial
  • Don’t freeze it or use it if it’s been frozen

Zepbound KwikPen

  • Store in the fridge at 36°F–46°F
  • They can also be stored at room temp, up to 86°F
  • Throw away after 30 days at room temp, 30 days after first use, or after 4 weekly doses, whichever comes first
  • Keep away from heat and light
  • Don’t freeze it or use it if it’s been frozen

Wegovy pen

  • Store in the fridge at 36°F–46°F
  • Keep in the original carton to protect from light
  • If needed, pens can be kept at 46°F–86°F for up to 28 days before removing the cap
  • After use, discard the pen
  • Don’t freeze it or use it if it’s been frozen

A couple things to keep in mind:

  • Don’t leave GLP-1 meds in a hot car, mailbox, or direct sun
  • If using ice packs while traveling, don’t let the medication touch the ice directly. Freezing can ruin it

Tips for staying hydrated on a GLP-1

Staying hydrated comes up here all the time, so I thought it could be helpful to swap tips. Here are a few easy things to try:

  • Keep water nearby so you can sip throughout the day
  • Use a bottle you can actually track
  • Start drinking water earlier in the day instead of catching up at night
  • Add lemon, or fruit if plain water isn't appealing
  • Try an electrolyte mix or packet if it makes drinking water more appealing
  • Try ice water, sparkling water, herbal tea, or broth if regular water feels hard to drink

What’s helped you drink more water? Favorite electrolytes ( I know this community is very loyal to their electrolytes!), bottles, reminders, or little tricks?

What are your goals for the week?

Could be anything! Drinking more water, getting protein in, going on a few walks, staying consistent, meal prepping, or just getting through the week.

I’ll go first: my goal is to get better sleep this week. I've been traveling lately so my sleep has been all over the board 🤪

What’s one thing you’re focusing on?

Will people be able to tell what’s in my Ro package?

A question I see a lot is whether Ro packages are discreet.

Yes, Ro ships medications in discreet, unmarked packaging. The outside of the package does not include Ro branding, logos, or details about what’s inside.

The packaging may look a little different depending on the medication.

Standard medications
These typically arrive in a plain, unbranded mailer, like a white or brown envelope or bubble mailer.

Temperature-sensitive medications
Some medications, including GLP-1 weight loss injections, need to stay cold during shipping. These are shipped in a discreet insulated white box with cold packs inside.

Either way, the goal is to protect your privacy while making sure your medication is packaged correctly for delivery.

CVS Caremark just added Foundayo to some commercial formularies (and Zepbound is coming back this fall)

I know we have a lot of CVS Caremark patients in this sub, so I wanted to share an update that could matter for some people’s coverage.

CVS Caremark announced that it’s expanding GLP-1 weight management medication options for some members.

The two big updates:

  • Foundayo will no longer be blocked as a “new-to-market” medication starting June 1, 2026, where plans approve coverage.
  • Zepbound will be added back as an additional preferred GLP-1 option starting October 1, 2026.

Important note: this does not mean every CVS Caremark or Aetna member will automatically have coverage. Employers and health plans can still decide whether to cover weight management medications, and plans may still have prior authorization requirements or other rules.

For Ro members, this could mean more covered GLP-1 options over time- an oral option with Foundayo and broader access to Zepbound. But the key thing is that coverage still depends on your specific plan.

If you’re a CVS Caremark patient interested in Foundayo, you can request for us to re-check your plan for coverage. Feel free to DM me if you need help doing that!

Did you just start a GLP-1? I have a few tips for you.

Here are a few practical tips that doctors recommend to help you tolerate your treatment better and stay consistent for the long term.

Plan your injection timing strategically

When starting a GLP-1 or increasing your dose, side effects like nausea, fatigue, or general GI discomfort are often most noticeable in the first 24–48 hours after taking a new dose..

Some people intentionally schedule injections before a lighter workday, ahead of the weekend, or at night so they can sleep through some side effects.

There’s no universally “best” time to take it. The medication works the same regardless of morning vs. evening. The main thing is to pick a day and time that you can stick to consistently every week because consistency is what will help the most.

Smaller meals usually work better

Because GLP-1s slow gastric emptying, large meals can feel uncomfortable and may make side effects worse. Many people tolerate treatment better when they eat smaller portions, eat more slowly, avoid overeating, reduce heavily fried foods or high-fat foods around injection days.

Any tips you'd like to share that have worked for you? Drop them below! 👇

PSA: taking an antidepressant does not automatically mean your GLP-1 won’t work.

For those who might be wondering, yes—you can take GLP-1s and antidepressants together, if prescribed by your provider.

This latest article by Ro goes into greater detail, but some interesting takeaways to call out are:

  • From what we know so far, Ozempic + antidepressants are generally considered safe to take together, and there aren’t any known direct interactions between them.
  • The weight loss side of things is a little less straightforward. Some people on antidepressants lose weight a bit slower on GLP-1s, while others do just as well (or even better).
  • The same goes for blood sugar—there’s not enough research yet to say antidepressants help or hurt how GLP-1s work in that area.
  • People have also asked whether GLP-1s can affect mood or depression. Researchers are still studying it, but right now, there isn’t any evidence that GLP-1s can directly cause depression. Ro’s Director of Clinical Product Strategy & board-certified obesity medicine physician, u/DrSteveRO, notes that earlier this year, the FDA wrapped up an extensive review and found no increased risk of suicidal thoughts while taking a GLP-1, and a recent Swedish study found lower rates of worsening anxiety or depression in people taking certain GLP-1s.

As always, remember to track how you feel, not just the scale💛

If you have questions about combining medications, it’s always worth checking in with your provider.

Thinking about GLP-1s postpartum? Here’s what to know.

There’s been a lot more conversation recently about GLP-1 medications and postpartum weight loss. But one important thing often gets lost: postpartum care should not be about “snapping back.” The bigger focus should be on recovery and long-term health.

A few things worth knowing if you’re postpartum and considering a GLP-1, vetted by Ro’s Director of Clinical Product Strategy and board-certified obesity medicine physician  u/DrSteveRo:

  1. How GLP-1s work: GLP-1 medications help regulate appetite and metabolism. They’re effective because they target some of the biological drivers of weight gain, which can become especially relevant during periods of major hormonal change like postpartum.
  2. Talk to your provider: There’s no universal timeline for when someone can or should start a GLP-1 after giving birth. Postpartum recovery is complex. Providers typically consider:
    • recovery status after delivery
    • breastfeeding plans
    • overall health
    • metabolic history
    • mental health
    • sleep and energy levels

This is why clinical care is important. What’s appropriate for one person may not be appropriate for another. You should always make the decision with your provider.

  1. Side effects can feel more intense during postpartum: Common GLP-1 side effects include nausea, constipation, fatigue, and appetite suppression. Those can sometimes feel more pronounced during postpartum because the body is already dealing with major hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, physical recovery, and increased stress on the body overall.
  2. Pelvic floor recovery: GLP-1s can slow digestion, which may contribute to constipation. During postpartum recovery, the pelvic floor may already be weakened or healing, so additional straining can become more uncomfortable. That’s why things like hydration, fiber, protein intake, movement, and pelvic floor support can all play an important role while on treatment.

Your body just did an incredible thing bringing new life into the world! Every postpartum experience looks different, which is why the best care plans are individualized, clinically guided, and—most importantly focused on your overall health and wellbeing.
