I’m currently a Virginia resident but I’ve been living in New York State since January 21. I stayed about 6 weeks at a friend’s place at first, then got my own apartment on March 8 and have had a lease since then. I’ve also been working in NY since February 12.

I’m trying to figure out how to officially establish residency and switch over to a NY license. The only issue is that I probably won’t be able to get any proof from the friend I stayed with earlier since things didn’t end on great terms.

I do have a valid Virginia license right now.

Is my lease and job enough to show residency, or will that initial gap be a problem when going to the DMV?

Any advice would help, thanks.
