😆 Dating after becoming a widow is… an experience. 🤣

I went from being married for years to suddenly having to explain that I’m single, but not in the fun “I’ve been focusing on myself” way. More in the “life made an extremely aggressive decision on my behalf” way.

The first time someone asked, “So, what are you looking for?” I almost said, “Honestly? A man who knows how to communicate and won’t die on me.”

🌟 I did not say that.🌟

Dating apps are also a trip. My profile says “widow,” and apparently that makes people either incredibly respectful or deeply confused. One person asked if I was “ready to get back out there,” like I was a lawn chair being returned to the patio after a storm.

I’m slowly relearning how dating works:

* Flirting feels like a software update I forgot to install

* “Talking” apparently means texting for three weeks without making plans

Everyone says they want something serious, but half of them can’t commit to picking a restaurant

* I’m expected to have a type, even though my previous type was simply “my husband”

* Getting dressed for a date now involves emotional preparation, practical shoes, and an exit strategy

* I’m not looking to replace anyone. I’m just trying to figure out how to be a person in the dating world again without accidentally trauma-dumping over appetizers.

Dating after loss is strange, awkward, angering and occasionally pretty funny. I’m taking it one conversation, one questionable profile, and one “hey” message at a time.
