How long did you wait for your reversal?

Looking for some long wait times here to feel a little better about my mom’s situation. We are coming up on 6 months of her having a colostomy bag and we were hoping to start talking about reversal now but her Surgeon told us she wanted to wait another 6 months before talking about it and that even then it might not be possible. She’s never told us how much colon was removed but said mom’s “colon had died” due to a blockage, so she didn’t know if she could reverse it. Not the news we were expecting or wanting.

Are you ever not worried?

Hey yall, I’m just curious if you ever reach a point where you’re not constantly worried about your stoma? My mom is the one with the stoma but I do all of her changes for her mostly because she’s had issues with skin irritation at the bottom of it and it’s hard to see there. We have had lots of ups and downs with everything and I’m the one that’s constantly worried about it. I’m worried I’ve put it on too snug, or not snug enough, I’m worried when her output is too thick, or too thin or hasn’t happened when it normally happens, I’m worried her stoma is too red, or not red enough or has prolapsed and going to not work. We are about 3 months in now and I just really want to feel less scared. Did you reach a point where you felt comfortable with everything?

Travel tips

Hey y’all! I’m looking for some travel tips for my mom. She has a colostomy bag that she got at the end of April so we are still figuring things out with a lot of trial and error. She’s not gone far from the house in this time, but we have a 6ish hour drive coming up and I was hoping to source some tips and tricks from you all to help her feel more confident with the travel. She wants to not eat the entire time so that she won’t have output, but she’s lost so much weight with all the surgeries and infections that I really don’t want her not eating if I can help it. Any advice you can offer is appreciated ❤️

Did you struggle with infections and how long does the pain/achy feeling last?

My mom (67) had a major blockage in April that lead to a perforated colon, to emergency surgery, and a (hopefully temporary) colostomy bag. About 15 days later her drainage indicated there was an infection so the surgeon said she had to go back in for a “washout procedure”. Tomorrow will be 8 weeks post second procedure and mom still struggles with “aching”. It’s the only word she uses to describe her pain: that it just aches. Mostly under/on the side of her stoma. She only takes 650mg Tylenol in halves every 4 hours and doesn’t always even need it every 4 hours, but I’m constantly worried something is wrong because we have battled infections. She had a drainage tube for about 6 weeks and is on another antibiotic currently for an infection that made itself known by creating blisters at a section of her incision site that had already healed. I guess I’m wondering did anyone else also struggle with infections? And when did your pain really go away or did you feel achy for a while?
