Looking for images of used objects :)

Hi everyone! I'm an anthropology graduate student creating a small public-facing visual project about the ways people remain present through the objects they leave behind.

I'm interested in collectibles and everyday objects that carry visible traces of their history. Specifically, objects with visible wear, scratches, fading, repairs, handwritten notes, alterations, or simply...just old objects.

If you have something like this, PLEASE consider sharing a photograph and telling me a bit about its story/ the person who owned it! LIke...

  • What is the object?
  • Who owned or used it before you, if you know?
  • What traces of its history stand out to you?
  • Why have you continued to keep it?

I'm hoping to feature some of these photographs and stories in a small visual project website. I would only use your photograph and story with your permission, and you're welcome to remain anonymous or use a pseudonym.

I'm particularly interested in very ordinary details that show that someone was here before us. For example, I have this old chef statue that I took from my grandmas collection when she passed. What I love is the visible marks she left on it (her handwriting, the fact that its chipped in some parts, etc.)

If youre down to share some photos/stories then please reach out!! Again, this is just a passion project i'm doing for fun in my free time because I love material studies~

Thanks for sharing!

Looking for pictures of pictures :) (and old things in general)

Hi everyone! I'm an anthropology graduate student creating a small public-facing visual project about the ways people remain present through the objects they leave behind.

I'm interested in old photographs, collectibles, and everyday objects that carry visible traces of their history. Specifically, objects with visible wear, scratches, fading, repairs, handwritten notes, alterations, or simply...just old objects/images.

These can be images you inherited from a family member, or maybe something you found and know a little about its previous owner.

If you have something like this, PLEASE consider sharing a photograph and telling me a bit about its story/ the person who owned it! LIke...

  • Who is the person depicted? (you dont have to use names, you could just say "a loved one!")
  • What traces of its materiality stand out to you?
  • Why have you continued to keep it?

I'm hoping to feature some of these photographs and stories in a small visual project website. I would only use your photograph and story with your permission, and you're welcome to remain anonymous or use a pseudonym.

I'm particularly interested in very ordinary details that show that someone was here before us. For example, I have this old matchbox image of my grandma that she mustve had taken on a vacation before she passed. I love how its a bit creased and damaged at the edges because it reminds me she was here!

If youre down to share some photos/stories then please reach out!! Again, this is just a passion project i'm doing for fun in my free time because I love material studies~

Thanks for sharing!
(Also i'll delete this if its considered self-promo. Im not trying to market anything, so I wasnt sure)
