WTS Pilot Maki-e (mostly)

WTS Pilot Maki-e (mostly)

Another frenzy of buying and passing along the ones I am not keeping for myself. Made decisions on a bunch too, so now I'm back up to about 60 pens to destash. Look at my other posts and bundle up to save on shipping. I'm expecting to do 4 separate posts today to keep them bite-sized!

All exchanges through PayPal Goods and Services. Please comment here before sending a chat. +$13 shipping USPS Priority Mail CONUS (yes, shipping went up) unless it has a large box, then it will be $22. That's just what USPS Priority Mail costs.  Willing to ship out of CONUS, but it will definitely cost more, and I am not responsible for tariffs. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.  First person to say “I want X and here is my PayPal address ______, send me an invoice.” gets dibs!  I will send an invoice specific to the pen(s) you are getting.

Please excuse the dust particles and occasional pet hair in the photos. I cannot seem to keep them spotless long enough to get the photos finished!

VERIFICATION

  1. REDUCED Pilot Namiki Kokko-kai "Sokuikinen Hou-Ou (Double Phoenix)" by Kyusai Yoshida (1990): [B] 18k <M> nib.  Limited edition #644 of 1200 commemorating the Ascension of Emperor Akihito to the throne in November 1990.  You can read about it here: Pilot 1990 Limited Edition HouOu Fountain Pen Phoenix.  This goes for as much as $10,000 (some ask even more, seriously one Ebay listing is over $25k!) though I have seen prices all over the place when people sell them not knowing what they have.  Unfortunately, I do not have the box and docs, but it does come with a Con-70. A shop nearby recently sold one for $4,000, and there was one at the Atlanta Pen Show in April that was asking $11,000. So I’m thinking it is fair at my price of $3500, but will entertain offers. I know that's a lot of money to pay out for a pen and not a lot of people are in that market, so I'm open to trading for a bunch of lower priced pens that could sell easier as long as the value is there. $3500 $3400
  2. Pilot Namiki Elite Enhanced Maki-e "Chrysanthemum" (circa. 1960): [B-] Vintage. 14k <Manifold> nib. This is an early version of the Togidashi Maki-e lines done by the Namiki Kokkokai artisans group. The Kokkokai adopts certain renderings by their artists and then use them repeatedly for over 80 years now. The main artists are required to paint the motif just as laid out in the pattern. The Master artists are allowed to enhance them (my phrasing) and are allowed a few more colors to accent the underlying motif as they see fit. They also add gold powder and flake enhancements as they see fit. No two will ever be exactly alike because of the artists discretion in the rendering. The master artists, having made the painting their own, are allowed sign their own name and red signature character along with the normal signature of the Kokkokai Artisan Group. The design and the clip of the Elite used puts it sometime before 1962 (they changed clips in 1962). Which is appropriate because the artist 光甫 (Mitsuo?) was active in the 50's and 60's at Namiki. This pen is in excellent condition only showing a little general aging (it's at least 65 years old!) and a couple of small spots that might be urushi repairs. The nib is a Manifold (many fold, made for writing through carbon copies) so it is firm and smooth in the <FM> width range. Also has the cool Dali moustache "L" in the "PiLot" on the nib. The sack and original flip filler seem to work fine, but I have put the adapter nipple into a modern cartridge and that works better. Both will come with it. The closest comp I could find on E-Bay, though it is a different motif, was about $1900. I'm selling way below that for $900
  3. SOLD Pilot Deluxe Maki-e "Botan (Peony) over Mountain" (1996): [C-] 14k gold <F> nib with a B1296 nib code for production in December 1996.  Another super durable lacquer and brass Maki-e but this one has been through it! The "paint" on a maki-e pen is actually urushi mixed with dyes and often precious metals so the painting is as hard and durable as the urushi coat on the rest of the pen. This one seems to have found a way to have a good portion of the urushi paint chipped away in places giving it an odd, stylized look in the flower. General signs of use throughout the pen including some (as always!) loss of plating on the collar. Still works perfectly and is actually the best writing pen of all these Deluxe I'm listing. Thought long and hard about stealing the nib off this one. With an old empty cartridge for refilling.  $150 SOLD
  4. Pilot Deluxe Kokko-kai Maki-e "Cranes" (1987): [B-] 14k M nib.  H587 production code for May 1987 production in the Hiratsuka factory.  Usual tank of a pen with enamel over brass finished with Urushi and maki-e.  Some plating loss on nib collar (don’t dip your pens if you don’t want to clean them!)  No box, empty cartridge for refilling.  $200
  5. Pilot Deluxe Kokkokai Maki-e “Nadeshiko (Dianthus flower)” (1979): [B+] Vintage-y.  18k gold <F> nib with an H379 date code.  This could pass as NOS, I think I was the first one to ink it and test it. With an old empty cartridge for refilling.  $200
  6. SOLD Pilot Deluxe Kokko-kai Maki-e "Phoenix" (1976): [B] 18k <EF> nib which is rare as hens teeth.  H1176 production code for November 1976 production in the Hiratsuka factory.  Usual tank of a pen with enamel over brass finished with Urushi and maki-e.  Some plating loss on nib collar (don’t dip your pens if you don’t want to clean them!)  No box, empty cartridge for refilling.  $200 SOLD
  7. Pilot Deluxe Kokkokai Maki-e “Plum Blossom” (1990): [B+] Vintage-y.  14k gold <F> nib.  490 date code.  With an old empty cartridge for refilling.  $200
  8. REDUCED Pilot Deluxe Maki-e "Foil Geometric" (1980): [B-] 14k <F> with a H1180 nib code for production date of November 1980 in the Hiratsuka factory. Fabulous pen with more of a modern art motif rather than the classic Kokkokai artisan designs. Much rarer and not seen much in the US. Overall fantastic shape but there are a few pinpoint chips that have been repaired. With an empty cartridge for refilling. $225 $210 $200
  9. Pilot Deluxe Maki-e "Sakura-Fubuki (Cherry Blossom Snowstorm)" (1979): [B+] Vintage. 18k <F> with an H679 date code nib. A gold nibbed pen with gold flakes all over the body and gold Cherry Blossom petal-shaped inlays. This is a very tight Japanese <F> that is more like a Japanese <EF> or a Western <EEF>, very fine lines but they are well saturated and remarkably smooth for how fine the line is. The Deluxe line is urushi covered brass, so they are built like tanks. This pen is so nice I would believe it has just sat in a drawer for the past 47 years. I can't say I've gone over every millimeter with a jeweler's loop, but so far I haven't found any flaws. Just some slight signs of wear on the trim pieces (micro-scratches type stuff). With a cartridge of Pilot black ink that can be refilled. $500
  10. Pilot Deluxe Maki-e "Sakura-Fubuki (Cherry Blossom Snowstorm)" (1986): [B+] Vintage. 18k <B> with an H586 date code nib. This is a very wet Japanese <B>that puts down lines that are well saturated and incredibly smooth. Just some slight signs of wear on the trim pieces (micro-scratches type stuff). With a cartridge of Pilot black ink that can be refilled. $500
  11. Pilot Custom Hira Togidashi Urushi Maki-e “Hou-ou (Phoenix)”: [B] 14k #10 <M> nib.  Pilot Namiki pen with art from the Kokko-kai group of artisans done in Hiramaki-e (hand painted with 3 different colors) with Togidashi (real gold sprinkles) treatment.  It has been personalized on the body in Kanji with the name "Iwasaki Ryushi". Just looks like part of the pen to me and it belongs since I can't read Kanji. With a cartridge of ink. $400
  12. Pilot Hira Maki-e Urushi “Flying Cranes” (2016): [B-] 14k #5 <F> nib with a 1016 nib code for October 2016 production.  Cool flock of flying cranes with slightly stylized art. No major scratches, just micro-scratches and small spots of age and use. On the back of the cap at the top is a small bit of red paint of some sort. I did not want to get aggressive trying to take it off because I didn't want to risk damaging the urushi. I'll let the new owner decide how much it matters. Con-70 converter included. $350
  13. Pilot Hira Maki-e “Ume (Plum)” (1995): [B] 14k #5 <M> nib. A395 nib code for production at the Hiratsuka factory on line A in March 1995. This one is nice and tight like a Pilot <M> is expected to be (tighter than a Pelikan <F>). FK-3MP-UM With an empty cartridge for filling.  $350
  14. Pilot Hira Maki-e “Ume (Plum)” (1998): [B] 14k #5 <M> nib. A195 nib code for production at the Hiratsuka factory on line A in January 1998. This one is a wider and wetter <M> than the one above. I have written with Pilot <B> nibs that would compare with this one. FK-3MP-UM With an empty cartridge for filling.  $350
  15. Pilot Custom Legance (First Generation) “Brown Marble (Tortoise Brown)” (1985): [B] 14k #10(unmarked) <F> nib with an H185 nib code for January, 1985. Yeah this isn't Maki-e, but I needed a place to put it. This is from the first month of the first year of production for the Legance (later "LE") line.  The marbled acrylic shows only micro-scratches.  With Con-70 converter.  $250

VERIFICATION

  1. REDUCED Pilot Art Craft Silvern “Tsuru (Cranes)” (1975): [B-] Vintage. 18k <FM?> nib with an odd date code of 75.8. Nib width is not marked and I'm putting this one between a <M> and <F> so <FM> it is! Nice smooth and soft writer but does not spread much for line variation. Has the tiniest little pinpoint dent right above the crane's head on the cap. With a Con-20 converter.  $550 $525
  2. REDUCED Pilot Art Craft Silvern “Ukiyo-e, Bijinga (Beauty of Edo)” by Kitagawa Utamaro (1970?): [D] for nib swap but otherwise a solid [C+] Vintage.  18k gold <M> (unmarked) T1178 nib.  There are some very small (pinpoint) and shallow dents on it but nothing very noticeable. This model is much rarer and discontinued a while ago.  I am pretty sure this has had a nib swap on it because the nib is from 1978, but the body has the small drain hole in the end of it. I think that means it is 1970 or earlier, and earlier would be before the Art Craft line began in 1970. Con-20 Converter. $600 $575 $550
  3. Pilot Capless "Black Stripe" (1972): [B-] 14k <F> nib with a body code of MA 17 for production on January 17, 1972. This pen is fantastic, hard to believe it is 54 years old. Writes a smooth and tight <F> line as you expect with a Pilot Vanishing Point (Capless in Japan). The "Capless" decal is gone on the body (an improvement I think) and there is a very small and shallow chip on the back of the plastic part of the body. It could be sanded and buffed away, but it is pretty close to the date code stamp, so I didn't want to risk wiping that away too. With an empty cartridge for refilling. $400
  4. REDUCED Pilot Custom K-1000SS "Sterling Silver" (1972): [C+] Vintage.  18k White Gold <F> nib with H472 code for production in April 1972 at the Hiratsuka factory. As usual with the Pilot inlaid nibs, it is nice and firm but smooth. Writes a tight Japanese <F> that is more like a Western <EF>.  No major dents or scratches on this solid silver body with black enamel lines etched into it. It does have one small and shallow dent on the body and has the usual slight dings on the edges of the clip and finials. It is not highly polished at the moment but it could be easily enough. Comes with a cartridge of black in a resealable cartridge.  $175 $165
  5. Pilot Custom K-500SS "Black Stripe" (1977): [C+] Vintage.  18k White Gold <F> nib with H1077 code.  The nib is nice and firm but smooth. Writes a tight Japanese <F> that is more like a Western <EF>.  I grab every K500SS that I find for a decent price for the purpose of passing them on. These are the best everyday carry pens ever made. I have had probably 35 of these pass through my hands (and closely examined another 35) and I have only seen ONE pen that had a dent in the body or cap these pens are so sturdy. No dents or visible scratches on this solid stainless-steel body with black enamel lines etched into it. Just the usual slight dings on the edges of the clip and a couple of nicks on the nib. Finials look great but there is what appears to be a sticker applied to the top finial. Comes with an empty cartridge to refill. $150
  6. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Custom K-500SS "Black Stripe" (1977): [B] Vintage.  18k White Gold <EF> nib with H977 code.  The ever elusive Pilot <EF> nib. Pilot already writes generally a little finer than Platinum or Sailor, so I think they just don't get a lot of demand for an <EF> when their <F> is already pretty fine and tight. This nib is very fine and a little softer than most of the other inlaid nibs. It is decently smooth though, especially considering how fine the line is. No dents or visible scratches, just the usual slight dings on the edges of the trim pieces and micro-scratches. Comes with an empty cartridge to refill. $175 $165 SOLD
  7. Pilot Deluxe "Ami-me (Plaid)" (1976): [B-] Vintage.  18k <F> nib with H876 nib code for a production date of August 1976 at the Hiratsuka factory.  It is Stainless Steel with gold trim and broken etched lines on the body filled with black lacquer for a very distinct look.  These bodies are like tanks and it looks flawless except for the collar. The trim has some small dings including some slight plating loss on the collar. These two "Plaid" pens are a good example of why my OCD compels me to try 10 different ones of the same pen, they can be different. Normally I don't post two of the same at a time but these two write so differently they are practically different size nibs. This nib is VERY wide, wet and smooth for an <F>. I would almost call it a <M>, or just shy of it. Comes with an empty cartridge for refilling.  $150
  8. Pilot Deluxe "Ami-me (Plaid)" (1978): [B-] Vintage.  18k <F> nib with H1278 nib code for a production date of December 1978 at the Hiratsuka factory.  This one writes like a Japanese <F> with thin, precise lines. The trim has some small dings including some significant plating loss on the collar. Comes with an empty cartridge for refilling.  $150
  9. Pilot Deluxe Diamond Cut Guilloche (1978): [B] Vintage. 18k <F> nib with an H778 date code for production in July 1978 at the Hiratsuka factory. Personalized with "Y.H" etched lightly on the underside of the section. Nice and rather rare Pilot Deluxe. The cool little line of diamond shaped cuts in the ridges is a continuous ring that rolls up the barrel when you turn it. With an empty cartridge for refilling. $125
  10. Pilot Custom Elite 95S Full-Crosshatch (1975): [B] Vintage. 18k Rhodium <F> inlaid nib with an H475 date code for April 1975 production at the Hiratsuka factory.  Stainless Steel cap and body with etched lines filled with black lacquer. Comes with a cartridge of Pilot black.   $175
  11. Pilot Custom Elite 95S Full-Crosshatch (1976): [B] Vintage. 18k Rhodium <F> Dart(semi-hooded) nib with an H176 date code for January 1976 production at the Hiratsuka factory.  Stainless Steel cap and body with etched lines filled with black lacquer. Comes with a cartridge of Pilot black.   $175
  12. REDUCED Pilot Custom Elite 95S Half-Crosshatch (1978): [C] Vintage. 18k Rhodium <F> Dart(semi-hooded) <F> with an H678 nib date code for June 1978 production at the Hiratsuka factory.  Stainless Steel cap and body with etched lines filled with black lacquer.   SF 11 body code for June 11, 1978 production so it is matching. This one was massively personalized on the bottom of the section with lots of huge Kanji characters etched in with silver paint. I sanded those off and buffed it back to shiny new so all you can see is some unevenness there if you look closely. Empty cartridge for refilling included.   $130 $120
  13. Pilot Custom Etched “Nunome (fabric texture)” (1972): [C+] Vintage.  18k gold <F> nib with an H772 nib code meaning production in the Hiratsuka factory in February 1972.  Also referred to as a “Mosaic” in the West but it is pretty rare. Same fantastic inlaid nib that comes in a K500SS but this one is yellow gold. Some plating looks like it is worn off on the clip. Not chipped or damages, just worn from use. You can see it clearly in the side pictures. With an empty cartridge for refilling. $200
  14. REDUCED Pilot Decimo 20 Colors Orange: [B] 18k Rhodium <F> nib with P520 date code. Took me forever to find one of these (to match my Jeep) and now I have 2. With box and empty cartridge for refilling. $350 $325 $315
  15. Sailor "21" pocket pen (1971): [B] Vintage. 21k <F> nib with a nice gold inlay on the section. Body code of 104 for April 1971 production. Aluminum body makes it very lightweight. $100
  16. REDUCED ST Dupont Montparnasse Silver Plated: [D] 18k <EF> nib. Bought this knowing it was not in great shape, but I never used a Montparnasse and wanted to try it since I love me some ST Dupont. The body does not meld well with my grip, so I'm glad I didn't pay twice as much for a better condition one! Comes with a converter. Works fine, but is kind of rough. The thin gold band at the bottom of the cap came off so now it looks shiny silver there. The cap screws on really hard and I'm not sure why, and it could use some overall cleaning. Comes with a converter. It's cheap at $125 $115 $100

WTS: Black &amp; Gold Beauties! JSU Ohasido, Pilot, Platinum, Sailor, Waterman

VERIFICATION

The first three pens are JSU Ohasido(Ohashido). These are hand-made, solid ebonite pens from the second oldest manufacturer in Japan. Being hand-made, the artists were allowed to do what they wanted to make each a little bit unique. Some sizes are different since they are hand-lathed from rods of ebonite, band numbers/size/placement can differ, etc. The nibs are Sailor Nagahara Specialty nibs that are then tuned by JSU Ohasido. They are the (S)oft nibs that are no longer available on the Sailor pens, only by special order. They are a little softer and definitely smoother than regular Sailor nibs (most have very little "Sailor" feedback) and take Sailor cartridge/converters. These are softer than normal Sailor nibs, but they are NOT semi-flex or anything close to that. The main difference is a lot less tactile and audible feedback using them.

JSU Ohasido closed up shop after 112 years or so in December 2024, so they aren't making any more and the prices seem to be rising. I'm having a hard time finding any more for a decent price in Japan. Their area and materials sourcing took a beating from the Tsunamis and Uehara decided to retire. They are great pens, very similar in build quality to Nakaya (not the $2,000 Tamenuri, these are more simple models). I ended up with 17 and I'm trying to whittle it down to about 3 or 4. Several are off at Laqquerman Studios getting custom urushi jobs. The blue tape is just little pieces of painter's tape that I use to sort them and keep track of the nib characteristics, etc. For now, these are up. If you want more info on JSU Ohasido send me a chat with an email address.

  1. REDUCED JSU Ohasido Black: two bands, [B] 14k <S-M> nib with a 003 date code. Fantastic condition and one of the best Sailor <M> nibs I've ever written with. The only flaw I can find on the pen is a small line of rough urushi on the section. The nib (being a Sailor) can be turned in any position in the section, so I put it where the face of the nib is directly over the rough spot so you can see it clearly. Of course, you can turn it the other way, so you never look at the rough line if you want. Comes with a Sailor cartridge of blue or black. $550 $525
  2. SOLD REDUCED JSU Ohasido Black textured Large straight body: two band, [B] 14k <S-M> nib with no date code. This one is a rare-ish style that is a slightly larger size, with a body that is straight and a bottom tip made for posting. This one even has threads on the bottom to make sure you can securely post. Herringbone texture on the body and cap give it a nice look and feel in the hand. I've been told by people who know what they are talking about that the herringbone texture would be lost if it were coated in urushi. So, it is likely dyed/polished/sealed ebonite rather than urushi finished. Very cool looking and feeling pen, I'm keeping one like this, but can't keep them all. Comes with a cartridge of Sailor black or blue. $575 $550 SOLD
  3. REDUCED JSU Ohasido Black X-large: one band, [B-] 14k #6 size nib that is not marked, but it is an <M> width with a date code of 811. It could pass as brand new except for a very slight and very even line of wear around the sharp edge of the finial. I couldn't even notice it until I put a flashlight to it. It has a rich, shiny finish throughout. This has the larger body (thicker) and nib (#6 size) that JSU Ohasido used. The nib is softer than a normal Sailor nib, so it is probably a <S-M> although it does have more of the "Sailor" pencil-like feedback than the other (smaller) nibs. Comes with a converter. $675 $650 $625
  4. Pilot Custom 72 (1990): [D] due to nib swap, [B] otherwise. Original 1090 coded <HF> nib has been swapped with a 1017 coded 14k <SFM> nib. Most people prefer the (S)oft nibs, but I preferred the hard so I'm letting the soft nib go. This is the pen that was produced due to the popularity of the Pilot Custom 70th above with the sweet herringbone texture. You can read about it here: Crónicas Estilográficas: Pilot Custom 72. Fantastic condition on a cool "vest type" flat top pen. I've had 3 people say they wanted this and had me remove it, only to have to back out. So, it's available again. Con-70 included. $300
  5. SOLD Platinum President (2005): [B] 18k Bi-color <M> nib with a 905 nib code for a production in September 2005. Fantastic condition on a great pen and it's getting hard to find 18k nibs. $175 SOLD
  6. Sailor 18k AGM Black Lacquer (Textured Finish) (1968): [B] 18k <Medium Soft?> nib that is not marked for width. I came across a couple of these that I had never seen before and couldn't find a reference that actually said the name of the model. 18k AGM is stamped into the cap band, but that's evidently referring to the trim decoration. THIS place calls it a Spiral Aluminum Rod pen, but who knows. I know their price is crazy, but at least it shows that this was a 5,000 yen pen back in the day which I guess is the equivalent to a $300ish pen today. The body style is similar to the first precious wood model and I love those nibs, so I had to try them. The nib is not marked for width, but it is fairly soft and very smooth. Comparing it to the one below that is marked <F S> (which I'm presuming means Fine Soft) this nib would be a Medium Soft. The body is lacquer-covered aluminum and the texture on the body gives it a nice feel. The body has a date code of IF for production in June 1968. Comes with a cartridge of Sailor ink. $200
  7. Sailor 18k AGM Black Lacquer (Textured Finish) (1968): [C] 18k <F S> nib which seems to mean Fine Soft based on the sampling with it. The body has a date code of IG for production in July 1968. This one is pretty rough with a lot of small spots of lacquer chipping. It's missing the old Sailor logo in the cap finial. Writes great, very smooth for a Sailor. Comes with a cartridge of Sailor ink. $100
  8. SOLD Sailor 1911s (2005): [B+] 14k old-style <H-MF> nib with a 605 date code for production in June 2005. This one has a fancier clip on it. Has an anchor with a guilloche texture, I have no idea if that means anything about the model. With a cartridge of ink. $150 SOLD
  9. SOLD Sailor 1911s (2018): [B+] 21k old-style <H-MF> nib with an 18H date code for production in August 2018. In the US it is harder to find a 1911s with a 21k nib. When I was uploading the HD photos I noticed some darkness in the nib scrollwork. It was old dried ink. Ran the nib through the ultrasonic cleaner so it is shiny new looking now. With a cartridge of ink. $160 SOLD
  10. REDUCED Sailor 75th Anniversary Profit Carbon Fiber (1986): [B+] 14k bi-color (ruthenium and yellow gold) <M> nib that is unique for this pen. Only the very slightest signs of ever being used. Nice size but light weight pen with a completely different type of Sailor nib. It is softer and smoother than the modern Sailor nib with very little feedback. Comes with the box, ink and all the original documents and accesories. $500 $450
  11. SOLD Waterman Le Man 100: [B+] 18k Bi-color <M> nib. No significant signs of wear, just the usual microscratches you can see with a bright light and a magnifier. European <M> just too wide for my tiny writing. $175 SOLD
  12. REDUCED Waterman Le Man 200: [B-] 18k Bi-color <EF> nib. Bought this for the great looking <EF> nib to go into my Waterman Opera...but that's a 100 and I did not know this listing was for a 200 until it arrived. Now I can tell the difference in photos! Nice pen but I just don't have a use for it. Only significant sign of wear is the corrosion on the collar, which is very common in the Le Mann line and really any line that puts a gold collar on a pen with a piston or converter. Refilling cartridges with a syringe is the the way! I don't know if that knocks it down to C or it's still a B? Comes with a LARGE empty cartridge for refilling. $225 $200 $175

WTS/WTT: GVFC, JSU Ohasido, Pilot, Platinum, Sailor, ST Dupont, Waterman

Passing along the ones I am not keeping for myself. I'm trying to reduce the collection but I'm buying almost as fast as I'm selling! But I'm getting some cool stuff out of it too, so it's worth the effort.

All exchanges through PayPal Goods and Services. Please comment here before sending a chat. +$12 shipping USPS Priority Mail CONUS unless it has a large box, then it will be $22.

  1. SOLD REDUCED Graf Von Faber-Castell Guilloche Chevron Black: [A2] 18k <F> nib. Not sure what this model is actually called. I purchased it as [NOS] and inked it once. Bought several GVFC to try them out. They are pretty pens, but I'm trying to stop buying them just to look good in the collection case and I have others I prefer. As usual with German pens, they are rather wide and wet for the nib width designation. Comes with the box, docs, converter, cartridges, sleeve. $300 $275 SOLD
  3. REDUCED JSU Ohasido Black textured large straight body: two band, [B] 14k <S-M> nib with no date code. $575 $550
  4. This has the larger body (thicker) and nib (#6 ish) that JSU Ohasido used. The nib is softer than a normal Sailor nib, so it is probably a <S-M> although it does have more of the "Sailor" pencil-like feedback than the other (smaller) nibs. Comes with a converter. $675 $650 $625
  5. Pilot Art Craft Silvern “Fuyu-kodachi(Winter Grove)”(1970): [C] Vintage.  18k <F> (estimated) nib with T770 code for July 1970 production in Tokyo. This is kind of cool, instead of a mirror finish it has a brushed finish that was then polished smooth. This could be repolished to give the mirror like finish easily enough, but I think it looks cool (and different) like this. The section could use some buffing, there are some friction marks. The trees seem to have lost their patina in a few places, but that will come back. The only true flaw that I can find is a dent on the very bottom where it looks like it was maybe dropped. Even the trim band and clip are in great shape, very shiny. There is no hole, the darkness is just patina that hasn't been polished off. Comes with an empty cartridge for refilling. $500
  7. REDUCED Pilot Art Craft Silvern “Ukiyo-e, Bijinga (Beauty of Edo)” by Kitagawa Utamaro (1970?): [D] for nib swap but otherwise a solid [C] Vintage.  18k gold <M> (unmarked) T1178 nib.  There are some very small and shallow dents on it but nothing very noticeable. This model is much rarer and discontinued a while ago.  I am pretty sure this has had a nib swap on it because the nib is from 1978 but the body has the small drain hole in the end of it. I think that means it is 1970 or earlier, and earlier would be before the Art Craft line began in 1970. Con-20 Converter. $600 $575
  8. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Capless "Black Stripe" (1960s?): [C?] 14k <F> nib undated that I can find, which I think puts it before 1970. This pen is in remarkable shape for its age, but I'm putting it at a [C] condition grade due to a couple of shallow gouges beside the "Capless" text on the barrel. Tried to show it specifically in the individual photos and I think I made it look way worse than it is. You really need the light to hit it right to even be able to see it. With an empty cartridge for refilling. The last one sold on Pen_Swap was sold for $450 in less than an hour and that was quite a few years ago, so another one surprising me to hang around this long.  $450 $425 $400 $375 SOLD
  9. Pilot Custom 72 (1990): [D] due to nib swap, a solid [B] otherwise. Original 1090 coded nib has been swapped with a 1017 coded <SFM> nib. This is the pen that was produced due to the popularity of the Pilot Custom 70th above with the sweet herringbone texture and "vest type" pen shape. You can read about it here: Crónicas Estilográficas: Pilot Custom 72. Con-70 included. $300 $275 $250
  10. Pilot Custom K-1000SS "Sterling Silver" (1972): [C+] Vintage. $175
  12. Pilot Custom K-500SS "Black Stripe" (1977): [B] Vintage. No dents or visible scratches, just the usual slight dings on the edges of the trim pieces and microscratches. Comes with an empty cartridge to refill. $175
  13. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Deluxe "Ami-me (Plaid)" (1979): [C-] Vintage.  18k <F> nib with H579 nib code for a production date of May 1979 at the Hiratsuka factory.  It is Stainless Steel with gold trim and broken etched lines on the body filled with black lacquer for a very distinct look.  This nib is VERY fine and soft. These bodies are like tanks and it looks flawless. The trim, however, shows its age some. It has some small dings on the clip and the bottom finial. The top finial has some slight dings and is missing the black plastic filler dot. Some plating loss on the collar. Comes with an empty cartridge for refilling.  $140 $130 $120 SOLD
  14. SOLD Pilot Custom Elite 95S Full-Crosshatch (1977): [B] Vintage. 18k Rhodium <M> inlaid nib with an H1177 date code for November 1977 production at the Hiratsuka factory.  Stainless Steel cap and body with etched lines filled with black lacquer. Comes with a cartridge of Pilot black.   $175 SOLD
  15. REDUCED Pilot Custom Elite 95S Half-Crosshatch (1978): [C] Vintage. 18k Rhodium Semi-hooded (dart) <F> H678 nib date code for June 1978 production at the Hiratsuka factory. $130 $120
  16. SOLD Pilot (unknown) model Coral (Pink/Red) (1967): [B] Vintage. 14k <F> nib. I don't know what model this is, it was in a bundle auction. It has a body date code of HK 22 for November 22, 1967, so it's even older than me. I just realized I forgot to put pictures up on this one, I'll get them up soon. $100 SOLD
  17. REDUCED Pilot Decimo 20 Colors Orange: [B] 18k Rhodium <F> nib with P520 date code. Took me forever to find one of these (to match my Jeep) and now I have 2. With box and empty cartridge for refilling. $350 $325 $315
  18. $500 $450
  21. Gold band at the bottom of the cap came off (included), the cap screws on really hard and I'm not sure why, and it could use some overall cleaning. Comes with a converter. It's cheap at $125 $115
  22. REDUCED Waterman Le Mann 200: [C] 18k Bi-color <EF> nib. Bought this for the great looking <EF> nib to go into my Waterman Opera...but that's a 100 and I did not know this listing was for a 200 until it arrived. Now I can tell the difference in photos! Nice pen but I just don't have a use for it. Only significant sign of wear is the corrosion on the collar, which is very common in the Le Mann line. Comes with a large empty cartridge for refilling. $225 $200 $175

You never know what might interest me in a trade, feel free to ask, especially if you have a listing that you can point me to, but I'm definitely interested in:

I know that's a lot of money to pay out for a pen, so I'm open to trading for a bunch of lower priced pens that could sell easier as long as the value is there. $3500 $3400
  2. Pilot Deluxe Kokko-kai Maki-e "Cranes" (1987): [B+] 14k M nib. $200
  3. Pilot Deluxe Kokko-kai Maki-e "Phoenix" (1976): [B] 18k <EF> nib which is rare as hens teeth. $200
  5. Pilot Deluxe Maki-e "Sakura-Fubuki (Cherry Blossom Snowstorm)" (1979): [B+] Vintage. 18k <F> with an H679 date code nib. A gold nibbed pen with gold flakes all over the body. With a cartridge of Pilot black ink that can be refilled. $500
  6. The Deluxe line is urushi covered brass, so they are built like tanks. As with the one above, I haven't found any flaws. With a cartridge of Pilot black ink that can be refilled. $500
  7. REDUCED Platinum #3776 Flattop Kaga Hira Urushi Maki-e “Ume (Plum Blossom)” (1997): [D] for nib swap, otherwise [B+]. 1997 nib was swapped out for a 14k <F> 558 (May 1983) nib that is closer to a Japanese <EF>. With box, docs and a cartridge of Platinum Carbon Black. $325 $315
  8. REDUCED Platinum #3776 Flattop Maki-e "Tsubaki (Camellia) & Butterfly" (1989): [C] 14k <M> with a 1089 (October 1989) nib date code and an ebonite feed. This period of the #3776 was especially tight with the nib widths, so this writes more like a Japanese <F>. A metallic effect in the urushi paint is sort of iridescent, where it changes colors a little as it turns in the light. Rating a [C] condition because the butterflies seem to have either oxidized or lost a layer of urushi and they are more like silhouettes now. Significantly reduced the price due to that. If you want a pretty much perfect one, then go to the next one below. These pens are very interesting because evidently the Maki-e artists were given a lot more of a free hand to make the picture their own. I've now had 4 of these (including the one I'm keeping in my personal collection) and each one is a little different. Excellent condition overall, just seems a little aged like you would expect.  With an empty cartridge to refill.  $350  $325  $300  $290
  9. Platinum #3776 Flattop Maki-e "Tsubaki (Camellia) & Butterfly" (1983): [B+] 14k <F> nib (Japanese characters) with an 858 (August 1983) nib date code and an ebonite feed. This period of the #3776 was especially tight with the nib widths, so this writes more like a Japanese <EF>. This is the pen that made me love this Maki-e style. The urushi (paint) on this pen is so neat and clean it looks like stickers. A metallic effect in the urushi paint is sort of iridescent, where it changes colors a little as it turns in the light. The only flaw I can find on this pen is that it is very lightly personalized with "M.T" etched (without paint) on the bottom of the section. The letters are easy enough to buff off if it bothers you.  This one is so perfect I had a hard time deciding which of the final two to keep for my collection and essentially had to flip a coin. With the box and converter. $400
  10. REDUCED Platinum Vicoh Hira Maki-e "Maple Leaves and Mandarin Ducks": [B] 18k <F> (Japanese) nib that is tight and fairly firm. This is one of the earliest Vicoh models and pretty rare from what I've seen. Just the usual signs of use but no abuse and fantastic condition for the age and rarity.  With a cartridge of Platinum Carbon Black. $275 $265 $250
  11. REDUCED Platinum Vicoh Kaga Maki-e "Zuiun (Auspicious Clouds)" by Ippei: [B] 18k <F> (Japanese) nib that is a little bendy without much spread to the tines. Tight snap cap closure.  With an empty cartridge for refilling. $175 $165
  12. Platinum Vicoh Kaga Maki-e "Zuiun (Auspicious Clouds)" by Ippei: [B] 18k <M> (Japanese) nib that is a little bendy without much spread to the tines. Tight snap cap closure.  With an empty cartridge for refilling. $175
  13. REDUCED Platinum Modern Maki-e "Phoenix": [B+] 18k <F> (Japanese) nib that is on the firmer side with good, saturated lines. Tight snap cap closure.  With box and an empty cartridge for refilling. $175 $165
  14. Platinum Modern Maki-e "Phoenix": [B+] 18k <M> (Japanese) nib that is on the firmer side with good, saturated lines and a little feedback. Tight snap cap closure. With a cartridge of Platinum ink that can be refilled.  $175
  15. REDUCED Sailor Profit (1911S) Maki-e “Purple Joy”: [B] 14k <H-MF> 638/950 wreath nib.  This is a Limited Edition produced in 2012 to commemorate Japanese Empress Michiko’s 77th birthday.  LOTS of gold powder/flake in the leaves. This is #638 of 950.  The section is marked "K.O", they were all presented as diplomatic presents to represent the quality of Japanese craftsmanship and (I presume) personalized for the person to whom it was being presented. With a cartridge of Sailor ink.  $550  $500  $475  $450
  16. REDUCED Sailor Profit (1911S) Kaga Hira Maki-e “Cosmos” (1990): [B-] 14k <H-M> nib with code 004 for a likely production of April 1990.  This pen is evidently very rare and may have been a one-time run only for the Japanese market.  I have found two of these and they both had 004 nib codes.  It is in fantastic shape and the colors really pop.  A little pitting around the nib collar.  Very smooth writing.  Comes with a cartridge of Sailor Jentle Ink Blue.  $325 $315
  17. REDUCED Sailor Profit (1911S) Kaga Hira Maki-e “Wild Poppy”: [B] 14k <H-M> nib with 901 nib code.  Oshita Kosen art. I have also seen this called “Chrysanthemum and Bellflower”. The colors are excellent on this one. I really wish they made more of these fantastic maki-e in the 1911L size! With a cartridge of ink. $300 $290

WTS/WTT: Cross, GVFC, JSU Ohasido, Pilot, Platinum, Sailor, ST Dupont, Waterman

Passing along the ones I am not keeping for myself. I'm trying to reduce the collection but I'm buying almost as fast as I'm selling! But I'm getting some cool stuff out of it too, so it's worth the effort.

All exchanges through PayPal Goods and Services. Please comment here before sending a chat. +$12 shipping USPS Priority Mail CONUS unless it has a large box, then it will be $22.

  1. SOLD REDUCED Cross Apogee Silver/Rhodium: [B-] 18k Rhodium <B> nib that is marked <F>, but it is a <B>. I believe the body is Platinum or Rhodium plated because it does not tarnish. Nicest Cross pen I've ever used, so I got 3 of them. The nib says <F> but it is very broad and wet. I have another one that is marked <F> and it has noticeably less tipping on it (it clearly wasn't ground down the taper to get wider), so I'm pretty certain the nib was just mis-marked. Nice and smooth and the pen has a great weight to it. There is some slight rhodium loss on the nib along the slit that I did not notice until I was putting up the HD pics. Comes with the box and a converter. $225 $210 $200 $185 SOLD
  2. SOLD REDUCED Graf Von Faber-Castell Guilloche Barley Rhodium: [B] 18k <F> nib. The model is rhodium plated so it doesn't seem to tarnish. Bought several of these to try them out. As usual with German pens, they are rather wide and wet for the nib width designation. They are pretty pens, but I'm trying to stop buying them just to look good in the collection case and I have others I prefer. With box and a large empty cartridge for refilling. $300 $275 SOLD
  3. REDUCED Graf Von Faber-Castell Herringbone Black: [A2] 18k <F> nib. $300 $275
  5. REDUCED JSU Ohasido Black textured large straight body: two band, [B] 14k <S-M> nib with no date code. $575 $550
  7. REDUCED Pilot Art Craft Silvern "Ryu (Dragon)" (1970): [C] Vintage.  18k gold <F> nib with a T470 nib code. That puts production in the Tokyo factory in April 1970. The nib is fairly firm but does spread a bit without bending if you press to get a small amount of line variation. I'm rating it a [C] only because of 3 TINY dents in the barrel, otherwise would be a [B+]. You have to do a close inspection to find them. Comes with a vintage Con-20 converter and a Majohn black ink cartridge with a stopper. $525 $515 $500
  8. REDUCED Pilot Art Craft Silvern “Tsuru (Cranes)” (1975): [B] Vintage. 18k <FM?> nib with an odd date code of 75.8. Nib width is not marked and I'm putting this one between a <M> and <F> so <FM> it is! Nice smooth and soft writer but does not spread much for line variation. With a Con-20 converter.  $550 $525
  9. Pilot Art Craft Silvern “Ukiyo-e, Bijinga (Beauty of Edo)” by Kitagawa Utamaro (1970?): [D] for nib swap but otherwise a solid [C] Vintage. $600
  10. REDUCED Pilot Capless "Black Stripe" (1960s?): [C?] 14k <F> nib undated that I can find, which I think puts it before 1970. $450 $425 $400 $375
  11. Pilot Custom K-1000SS "Sterling Silver" (1972): [C+] Vintage. $175
  13. REDUCED Pilot Deluxe "Ami-me (Plaid)" (1979): [C-] Vintage. $140 $130 $120
  14. SOLD Pilot Custom Elite 95S Full-Crosshatch (1978): [B+] Vintage but could pass for [NOS]. 18k Rhodium <F> inlaid nib with an H478 date code for April 1978 production at the Hiratsuka factory.  Stainless Steel cap and body with etched lines filled with black lacquer. Comes with a cartridge of Pilot black.   $175 SOLD
  15. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Custom Elite 95S Half-Crosshatch (1976): [B] Vintage. 18k Rhodium <F> H476 nib date code for April 1976 production at the Hiratsuka factory.  Stainless Steel cap and body with etched lines filled with black lacquer.   QF 13 body code for June 13, 1976 production so it is matching. The partially hooded nibs are soft, but do not give much line variation, so it’s not considered flexy. Fantastic condition, just some micro-scratches on the plastic parts and slight signs of wear on the clip. Empty cartridge for refilling included.   $140 $130 SOLD
  16. REDUCED Pilot Custom Elite 95S Half-Crosshatch (1978): [C] Vintage. 18k Rhodium <F> H678 nib date code for June 1978 production at the Hiratsuka factory.  Stainless Steel cap and body with etched lines filled with black lacquer.   SF 11 body code for June 11, 1978 production so it is matching. This one was massively personalized on the bottom of the section with lots of huge Kanji characters etched in with silver paint. I sanded those off and buffed it back to shiny new so all you can see is some unevenness there. Empty cartridge for refilling included.   $130 $120
  17. Pilot (unknown) model Coral (Pink/Red) (1967): [B] Vintage. 14k <F> nib. I don't know what model this is, it was in a bundle auction.
  18. REDUCED Pilot Decimo 20 Colors Orange: [B] 18k Rhodium <F> nib with P520 date code. Took me forever to find one of these (to match my Jeep) and now I have 2. With box and empty cartridge for refilling. $350 $325 $315
  19. SOLD Platinum #3776 Black/Gold: [C] 14k <F> nib. Basic black with gold trim on a standard issue Platinum #3776. I personally like their nibs more than Sailor...not as much as Pilot. Nib is wedged in well (as usual with Platinum) and I'm not going to force it just to get a date. I would expect somewhere between mid 80's and mid 90's. Good shape, writes well, just normal signs of use including some plating loss on the collar. With a cartridge. $100 SOLD
  20. SOLD Platinum #3776 Century Black/Gold: [B] 14k <SF> nib. The nib is soft and smooth and lays down a well-saturated line. With a cartridge. $110 SOLD
  21. $500 $450
  24. REDUCED ST Dupont Montparnasse Silver Plated: [D] 18k <F> nib. Gold band at the bottom of the cap came off (included), the cap screws on really hard and I'm not sure why, and it could use some overall cleaning. Comes with a converter. It's cheap at $125 $115
  25. $225 $200

You never know what might interest me in a trade, feel free to ask, especially if you have a listing that you can point me to, but I'm definitely interested in:

VERIFICATION

  1. REDUCED Pilot Namiki Kokkokai "Sokuikinen HouOu (Double Phoenix)" by Kyusai Yoshida (1990): [B] 18k <M> nib. Unfortunately, I do not have the box and docs, but it does come with a Con-70! A shop nearby recently sold one for $4,000, so I’m thinking it is fair at my price of $3500 but will entertain offers. I know that's a lot of money to pay out for a pen, so I'm open to trading for a bunch of lower priced pens that could sell easier as long as the value is there. $3500 $3400
  3. REDUCED Pilot Hira Togidashi Urushi Maki-e "Soukaku (Cranes)" going left: [C] 14k #10 <M> nib also from before they started printing the #10 on the nib. The date code is H284 printed low on the nib neck, so you have to pull the nib to see it. Pilot Namiki pen with art from the Kokko-kai group of artisans with cranes done in Hiramaki-e (hand painted giving a raised texture to the body) with Togidashi (real gold sprinkles) treatment for the clouds. This pen is in great shape, but I think it saw a little too much direct sunlight. It is overall just a little duller than normal. No scratches or missing paint (urushi) or chips. With a Pilot black cartridge. $300 $290 $280
  5. REDUCED Platinum #3776 Flattop Maki-e "Peony & Butterfly" (1989): [C] 14k <M> with a 1089 (October 1989) nib date code and an ebonite feed. This period of the #3776 was especially tight with the nib widths so this writes more like a Japanese <F>. Interesting Maki-e, I thought it might be foil but it is clearly hand painted by the differences in the multiple one's of these I have. Cool metalic effect in the urushi paint is sort of iridescent, where it changes colors a little as it turns in the light. The butterflies have oxidized and peeled some on this one, so they are a different color than original, more like silhouettes now.  Excellent condition overall, just seems a little aged like you would expect.  With an empty cartridge to refill. $350 $325 $300 $290
  6. SOLD Platinum Standard Kanazawa Haku Maki-e "Sakura-fubuki (Swirling Petals of Cherry Blossoms)": [B+] 18k <M> (Japanese) nib that is on the firmer side with good, saturated lines. Tight snap cap closure.  With an empty cartridge for refilling. $200 SOLD
  9. REDUCED Platinum Modern Maki-e "Phoenix": [B+] 18k <F> (Japanese) nib that is on the firmer side with good, saturated lines. Tight snap cap closure.  With box and an empty cartridge for refilling. $175 $165
  10. SOLD REDUCED Platinum Modern Maki-e "Phoenix": [C-] 18k <F> (Japanese) nib that is on the firmer side with good, saturated lines. Snap cap closure is weak, so I reversed a small strip of painter's tape on the inside of the cap to make it VERY secure.  The maki-e has lost some layers in places, some plating loss on the collar and other small signs of wear, but it works perfectly. With an empty cartridge for refilling. $125 $115 SOLD
  12. $325 $315
  13. $300 $290
  14. SOLD Sailor Pro Gear Prime Minister’s Special Consolation Gift “Sakura Nagare (Flowering Cherry Blossoms)” (2010): [B] 21k <H-M>. I came across another one of these, and the last one was so "in demand" (must be my LOW LOW prices!) I went ahead and picked it up. They have too many of the beautiful pens in Japan, we need more of them brought over here. The texture on these feels great in the hand. The nibs on the Gifts are different. They are smoother with less feedback than normal Sailor nibs. Comes with the box, special ink (at least the bottle is special, probably just normal Sailor ink) and pen with converter. These are going for crazy numbers. The last one that wasn't mine sold here for $900 + tarrifs and shipping from England. Mine is a (relative) bargain at $850 SOLD

VERIFICATION

  1. REDUCED Aurora Mini "Luna" Limited Edition (2010): [B+] 18k Rhodium <EF> nib. Piston filler. The Luna of the Mini series was to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the moon landing, I think. #368 of 750. Pretty pen, but definitely a small pen. Approximately the size of a Pelikan M200, but with a sweet gold nib. $300 $290
  2. REDUCED Cross Apogee Silver/Rhodium: [B-] 18k Rhodium <B> nib that is marked <F>, but it is a <B>. $225 $210
  3. PENDING Graf Von Faber-Castell Guilloche Tamitio Gulf Blue: [A2] 18k <EF> nib. Bought several of these to try them out. This one was new and I inked it once. They are pretty pens, but I'm trying to stop buying them just to look good in the collection case and I have others I prefer. As usual with German pens, they are rather wide and wet for the nib width designation. Comes with the box, docs, converter, cartridges, sleeve. $300 PENDING
  4. Graf Von Faber-Castell Guilloche Silver: [B] 18k <F> nib. The model is listed as silver but I don't think it is actually Sterling Silver. I think it is rhodium plated because it doesn't seem to tarnish. Bought several of these to try them out. As usual with German pens, they are rather wide and wet for the nib width designation. They are pretty pens, but I'm trying to stop buying them just to look good in the collection case and I have others I prefer. With box and a large empty cartridge for refilling. $300
  5. Graf Von Faber-Castell Herringbone Black: [A2] 18k <F> nib. $300
  7. REDUCED JSU Ohasido Black textured large straight body: two band, [B] 14k <S-M> nib with no date code. $575 $550
  9. REDUCED Pelikan M800 Green/Black: [C++] 18C bi-color <EF> or <B> nib. This is your basic green and black Pelikan M800 but it has two of the most desired attributes for a Pelikan. It has the translucent barrel and an <EF> nib! Writes fantastic. Smooth and well saturated, but well-defined and tight lines. It is not a firehose like many Pelikans can be. I'm conservatively rating it a [C], but the only signs of use that I can find on it without using a jeweler's loop are 3 small corrosion spots on the collar. That's enough to knock it just below a [B] and knock a few bucks off the price. The piston is smooth and easy. It was produced with an <EF> nib but if you want to go the other way I have a matching <B> nib that I can swap out. Comes with the box. $425 $415
  10. REDUCED Pilot Art Craft Silvern "Ryu (Dragon)" (1970): [C] Vintage.  18k gold <F> nib. $525 $515
  11. $550 $530
  12. REDUCED Pilot Capless "Black Stripe" (1960s?): [C?] 14k <F> nib undated that I can find, which I think puts it before 1970. $450 $425 $400 $375
  13. PENDING REDUCED Pilot Custom 72 (1990): [D] due to nib swap, [B+] otherwise. Original 1090 coded <HF> nib has been swapped with a 1017 coded 14k <SFM> nib. This is the pen that was produced due to the popularity of the Pilot Custom 70th Anniversary Pen with the sweet herringbone texture but without the semi-flex nib. But this one was only produced for one year, essentially to sell more of the same pen without violating the "Limited Edition" numbers of the 70th Anniv pen. You can read about it here: Crónicas Estilográficas: Pilot Custom 72. Con-70 included.  $300  $275 $250 PENDING
  14. Pilot Justus (1979) #1: [B-] 14k <F> nib with an ebonite feed a date code of H1079. October 1979, this is the first year of production! Cool idea pen where you can adjust the length of a brace along the top of the nib to make it harder or softer. At its hardest, it's about like a Pilot Deluxe: still a little bend to the nib but not much and no flex (widening of the lines). At its softest it's about like....a Pilot Justus at its softest setting. It's very soft and a little flexy and hard to think of a comparison because I don't generally mess with the very soft nibs. It's nowhere near a Falcon nib, but definitely closer to semi-flex than any of the other "Soft" Pilot nibs that I've used. Definitely a little line variation. Bought two to compare them and I chose the 1980's version because of the cigar shape with the sweet fluted body. Decided I'm not keeping either of them because I'm never going to think "Hey, I really want to write with a super soft nib." They write exactly the same (shocker) and the only way I can tell them apart is that this one has a little plating loss on the top ring on the cap (hence the [B-]). Has the standard micro-scratches and small signs of use you would expect from a 40-year-old pen. Comes with an empty cartridge for refilling. $190
  15. PENDING Pilot Justus (1979) #2: [B] 14k <F> nib with and ebonite feed and a date code of H979. Same as above, but without the tarnishing on the very top ring. Has the standard micro-scratches and small signs of use you would expect from a 40-year-old pen. Comes with an empty cartridge for refilling. $200 PENDING
  16. PENDING Pilot Custom K-500SS "Black Stripe" (1975): [B-] Vintage.  18k White Gold <F> nib with H275 code. The nib is nice and firm but smooth. Writes a tight Japanese <F> that is more like a Western <EF>.  No dents or visible scratches on this solid stainless-steel body with black enamel lines etched into it. Just the usual slight dings on the edges of the clip and finials with some rhodium loss on the finials if you look very closely. Comes with a cartridge of Pilot black. $140 PENDING
  17. Pilot Custom K-500SS "Black Stripe" (1977): [B] Vintage.  18k White Gold <F> nib with H177 code.  The nib is nice and firm but smooth. Writes a tight Japanese <F> that is more like a Western <EF>.  No dents or visible scratches on this solid stainless-steel body with black enamel lines etched into it. Just the usual slight dings on the edges of the clip. Finials look great. The section has "S.O" personalized lightly on the bottom of the section, could be easily buffed out. Comes with an empty cartridge to refill. $150
  18. REDUCED Pilot Deluxe "Ami-me (Plaid)" (1979): [C-] Vintage. $140 $130
  19. REDUCED Pilot Custom Elite 95S Half-Crosshatch (1976): [B] Vintage. $140 $130
  20. Pilot Custom Elite 95S Half-Crosshatch (1978): [D?] Vintage. $130
  21. REDUCED Pilot Decimo 20 Colors Orange: [B] 18k Rhodium <F> nib with P520 date code. Took me forever to find one of these (to match my Jeep) and now I have 2. With box and empty cartridge for refilling. $350 $325 $315
  22. $500 $450
  23. REDUCED ST Dupont Montparnasse Silver Plated: [D] 18k <F> nib. Gold band at the bottom of the cap came off (included), the cap screws on really hard and I'm not sure why, and it could use some overall cleaning. Comes with a converter. It's cheap at $125 $115
  24. Waterman Le Mann 200: [C] 18k Bi-color <EF> nib. $225

Got a lot left (and added one) so I've reduced them (just a little!).

All exchanges through PayPal Goods and Services. Please comment here before sending a chat. +$12 shipping USPS Priority Mail CONUS unless it has a large box, then it will be $22. That's just what USPS Priority Mail costs.  Willing to ship out of CONUS, but it will definitely cost more, and I am not responsible for tariffs. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.  First person to say “I want X and here is my PayPal address ______” gets dibs!  I will send an invoice specific to the pen(s) you are getting.

Please excuse the dust particles and occasional pet hair in the photos. I cannot seem to keep them spotless long enough to get the photos finished!

VERIFICATION

  1. REDUCED Pilot Namiki Kokkokai "Sokuikinen HouOu (Double Phoenix)" by Kyusai Yoshida (1990): [B] 18k <M> nib. $3500 $3400
  2. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Deluxe Kokkokai Maki-e “Phoenix” (1979): [B+] 18k <F> nib that is sharp and tight like an extra fine.  H379 production code for March 1979 production in the Hiratsuka factory.  Usual tank of a pen with urushi enamel over brass, finished with hand drawn Maki-e.  I would rate this [A2], but I don't know its history and didn't go over it with a microscope like some buyers will do. With an old empty cartridge for refilling. $200 $190 SOLD
  3. Pilot Deluxe Maki-e "Foil Geometric" (1980): [B-] 14k <F> with a H1180 nib code for production date of November 1980 in the Hiratsuka factory. Fabulous pen with more of a modern art motif rather than the classic Kokkokai artisan designs. Much rarer and not seen much in the US. Overall fantastic shape but there are a few pinpoint chips that have been repaired. With an empty cartridge for refilling. $225
  4. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Hira Togidashi Urushi Maki-e "Soukaku (Cranes)" going left: [A2] 14k #10 <M> nib from before they started printing the #10 on the nib. The date code is 392 printed down on the neck of the feed and you have to pull the nib to see it. Pilot Namiki pen with art from the Kokko-kai group of artisans with cranes done in Hiramaki-e (hand painted giving a raised texture to the body) with Togidashi (real gold sprinkles) treatment for the clouds. This came to me unused and I was going to keep it until I came across one of the same models in the Yukari body style that was enhanced by the artist. So now I will pass this beauty along. Con-70 converter. $350 $340 SOLD
  6. REDUCED Platinum #3776 Flattop Kaga Hira Urushi Maki-e “Ume (Plum Blossom)” (1997): [D] for nib swap, otherwise [B+]. 1997 nib was swapped out for a 14k <F> 558 (May 1983) nib that is closer to a Japanese<EF>. With box, docs and a cartridge of Platinum Carbon Black. $325 $315
  8. SOLD REDUCED Platinum Classic Maki-e Kanazawa "Goldfish": [B] 18k <F> (Japanese) nib that is on the firmer side with good, saturated lines. Tight snap cap closure.  With box and an empty cartridge for refilling. $175 $165 SOLD
  10. SOLD REDUCED Platinum Vicoh Hira Maki-e "Plum Blossom and Pine Needles" by Ippei: [C+] 18k <M> (Japanese) nib that smooth and a little bendy without much spread to the tines. The cap holds but it doesn't have the satisfying snap that is normal, some corrosion on the collar, small signs of use but nothing major.  With a cartridge of Platinum Carbon Black. $175 $165 SOLD
  12. REDUCED Platinum Modern Maki-e "Phoenix": [B+] 18k <F> (Japanese) nib that is on the firmer side with good, saturated lines. Tight snap cap closure.  With box and an empty cartridge for refilling. $175 $165
  13. REDUCED Platinum Modern Maki-e "Phoenix": [C-] 18k <F> (Japanese) nib that is on the firmer side with good, saturated lines. Snap cap closure is weak, so I reversed a small strip of painter's tape on the inside of the cap to make it VERY secure.  The maki-e has lost some layers in places, some plating loss on the collar and other small signs of wear. With an empty cartridge for refilling. $125 $115
  15. $325 $315
  16. $300 $290
