Tesla Europe unsafe behaviour

I genuinely think this is one of the most dangerous behaviours in European Teslas, and I’m surprised it isn’t talked about more:

In the US, Tesla has the option:
“Apply Brakes When Regenerative Braking Is Limited”

So when regen is unavailable because of battery temperature or SOC, the car automatically applies friction brakes to maintain consistent one-pedal driving behaviour.

In Europe, as far as I understand, we still do not have this feature due to regulatory restrictions (if someone knows otherwise, please correct me).

The problem is this:

95% of the time, one-pedal driving behaves exactly as expected. You build muscle memory around it. Then suddenly, with little warning, the car no longer decelerates the same way when you lift off the accelerator.

That is not just “different behaviour.” It can be genuinely dangerous.

I live in a mountainous region in France and regularly drive steep, winding descents. Imagine driving aggressively (but safely) using normal Tesla one-pedal expectations, then halfway down a mountain pass the regen suddenly drops away and the (heavy) car carries significantly more speed into corners than expected.

That is a serious safety issue.

The attached screen photo (excuse the fingerprints 😂) was taken with:

  • 73% battery
  • 20°C outside temperature
  • after driving long enough for the battery to be fully warmed

So this wasn’t a fully-charged cold-battery scenario.

I know there are indicators on the screen for reduced regen, but realistically, most drivers rely heavily on learned pedal response and muscle memory. A car suddenly changing its deceleration characteristics mid-drive is not something drivers intuitively expect.

Other EV manufacturers in Europe manage blended braking perfectly fine, so I struggle to understand why Tesla Europe still behaves this way.

I honestly think this has the potential to contribute to a major accident eventually, especially on mountain roads or in emergency situations.

Posting this because I know Tesla employees and techs read these subs, and I really hope this gets escalated internally.
