How do I grip, unlock, and disconnect the MCU cable (2018 Model 3)?

This is me in the process of installing Screenmate One. I’m trying, I really am. It’s such a cramped space in there though!

First photo shows my situation. I can get my left hand (and only my left hand) in there and push in the tab with my left thumb (by the blueish line, the connector happens to be nearest the blue dot in the photo). But then I can’t grip the connector with my other fingers at the same time and pull it out, in part because there’s all that metal around it.

Second photo shows me pushing the tab on the Screenmate-included connector that will take its place. Easy peasy, sure, but this is out in the open and not under the dash. I thought it would help me practice if I also connect the Screenmate connector to itself and get a sense of what to press and pull and all that. Underneath I have to do it strictly by feel. Looks like I need to have a really firm grip on the plastic connector to pull it out once the tab is pushed in.

What have others done to free that connector then? I suspect I’m working harder and not smarter. Open to proven techniques given the space. Inquiring minds… 🙏🏻

2026 Tesla Y - windows don't roll up fully on lock intermittently

2026 Tesla Y Juniper

Strange issue is that sometimes (20%?) the windows won't fully close on locking the car.

It's not 1 specific window - sometimes its a couple, sometimes, just 1, sometimes just front ones, sometimes just back ones.

I've already tried to uncheck the option for that in settings.

I've already went into the service menu and re-calibrated all 4 windows.

Issue persists - anyone else or anything else I should try?

TYIA!

Delivery day Fees

So question. I’m a first time Tesla buyer in Florida. I have not ordered yet, but I’m looking at the site and at the due at delivery fee circled above.

Is that amount really all that I will have to pay at delivery? I am imagining getting ambushed with unforeseen fees while seeing my car parked outside and feeling pressured to pay said unforeseen fees in order to finalize the transaction.

Appreciate insight from the more experienced, than you!

Side mirror broken

What would be the estimate? Can I fix it?
While parking in the garage I didn’t pay much attention the side mirror was broken

Ac Failure 51k miles

Well it just happened to me today, vcfront_a161. Going into the service menu turns out the compressor has a short circuit. Caught me off guard considering my warranty just ended 2 months ago. Car is a 2023 garage kept, we never use cabin over heat. I wonder what’s the going rate for Tesla to replace the compressor.

Is this a decent consumption?

I bought the car used. Just want to know how this is looking.

low daily mileage: is the 50% daily limit "guaranteed battery failure" as a local expert claims?

I have a 2021 Model 3 Performance (NCA, ~79 kWh) and drive only 3-5% per day, 3x a week (short trips to the gym). Car sits in a garage plugged in for ~160 hours per week. About once a month I take a longer trip where I charge to 80-100%, discharge almost fully (to 10%), then recharge for the way back and discharge again.

Based on calendar aging research (Keil/Jossen TUM 2016, Werner et al. MDPI 2021, Battery University, and AAKEE's posts on TMC), I've been keeping my daily limit at 50% to minimize high-SoC dwell time. Imbalance via S3XY Knob sits stable around 30 mV.

A local "battery expert" (claims 26 years working with lithium batteries) told me this is "the worst thing I can do" and "guaranteed battery failure, and I should already book an appointment for the Tesla center" because the BMS can't balance at low SoC because it can't see the differences at 50%. His recommendation instead: charge to 80%, let it run down to ~20% over 1-2 weeks of regular use, then plug in and charge back to 80% — repeat. Explicitly NOT daily charging. His analogy: "you wouldn't drive your gas car to the pump every night to add 1-2 liters." When I asked for sources and data, he called Battery University authors "dilettantes who should be institutionalized" and eventually blocked me.

His main technical experience seems to be repairing Lithium packs, and he told me that he is happy to fix my battery once I mess it up with this stupid "50% daily limit" with an "extra charge for being a smartass". His "don't plug in daily" advice also seems to directly contradict the Tesla owner's manual, which explicitly says to leave the car plugged in when not in use.

A lot of the advice I see online tends to agree with the following:

  1. use as low daily charge % as you need to get by for your daily trip without going under 20%. So keep it around 50%.

  2. Keep it plugged in all the time and charge frequently. Low DoD (depth of discharge) is better for the battery long term and will result in less degradation per mile driven vs. higher DoD and less frequent charging.

  3. avoid very low and very high SoC for prolonged periods of time.

So: am I missing something, or is the "80→20% deep cycling, no daily charging" advice basically extrapolated from LFP behavior and old S/X firmware? Anyone with long-term data on low-SoC daily strategy on a 2020+ NCA (or NMC) Tesla?

My goal is to keep degradation to a minimum. I work from home, the car sits in the underground garage, plugged in 24/7 with a 50% daily limit. Can I really mess up my battery this way? I would think that if this would damage the battery long term, Tesla wouldn't allow a 50% limit setting. I'm open to changing my routines if data shows that this is a bad protocol long term, but all research seems to point in the other direction, especially with me doing longer trips around once a month where I charge it up and drain it down.

How to increase model 3 range

I’ve seen allot of range issue questions so maybe this will help our new fellow Tesla owners.

I own a 2022 model 3 AWD long range with ryzen and acceleration boost.

I have Michelin defenders and they drag wh/ mile a bit but last longer.

1: tint your car, set the ac 68+ adjust on outside temp.
2: get shades for the panoramic roof
3: don’t use brakes, only emergency, don’t tail gate, keep distance.

Make sure your psi is as it should be

4: if you try to stay below 70mph your range excels.
( I know it’s tempting to race around, I catch my self doing it allot lol)

Regen when you can on downhills, I usually speed up a little and let the padel go a little bit to coast and regen.

I get total miles 285. But I’m usually 190-240 on average wh/mile.

This test was from DFW airport to Addison TX. It’s mainly highway.
Just drive cool and relax and you will get allot of range from your Tesla :)

I hope this helped anyone.

Bought a used Tesla from dealership months ago — still cannot transfer ownership in Tesla app

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice because this situation has been dragging on for months with almost no real help from the dealership or Tesla support.

I bought a used 2024 Tesla Model Y from DTLA Audi in late January 2026. Since the purchase, I have NOT been able to properly transfer ownership in the Tesla app.

Because of this, I still cannot fully access Tesla ownership features/services tied to the vehicle.

Tesla support says there still appears to be an ownership/lien-related issue attached to the car. The dealership told me payoff processing was handled around March 2026, but the ownership transfer is STILL not resolved months later, which honestly makes no sense to me.

The most frustrating part is:

  • the dealership has basically stopped cooperating,
  • they keep redirecting me back to the salesperson,
  • and I feel like I’m being pushed into solving backend/title issues that should not be my responsibility as the buyer.

Honestly, this feels like buying an iPhone but not having access to the App Store.

I legally purchased the vehicle, I possess the vehicle, and I have the purchase paperwork. I should not be expected to somehow track down or contact the previous owner myself just to resolve internal title/lien system problems.

I already emailed Tesla Finance directly and am currently waiting for a response.

My questions:

  • Has anyone dealt with this kind of Tesla ownership transfer nightmare before?
  • What actually fixes this situation?
  • Is this usually a Tesla backend issue or dealership/title processing issue?
  • Should I start speaking with a California consumer protection lawyer at this point?

I’m trying to stay patient and reasonable, but after months of this, it’s becoming extremely frustrating.

Any advice would really help. Thanks.

How long does the “fixed” car computer actually last?

Looking at a $2700 bill for a car computer malfunction m replacement after less than 5 years owning it. Bought in August 2021 and so 4.75 years just about.

I heard from the rep it’s 1 year parts and labor warranty. (What drove me insane was that there was a $260 diagnostic fee. I can’t believe Tesla charges a diagnostic fee let alone $200+.)

Anyway, curious how long you guys have had experiences with this new computer car replacement. How much longer will it last?

Got my HV battery replaced. I got this message when I picked up my car after hours. What a coincidence and now they want me to pay $2k to fix it.

I have a couple of questions about this outlet

First, what kind of outlet is this? Second, does Tesla make an adapter for it?

What is this socket?

Trying to adjust my door panel. Google says it’s a 10mm socket but it doesn’t match up to my 10mm sockets. Feels too big for a 10mm

Thanks

Am I overthinking my Model 3 range or is this low?

Just bought a used 2023 Tesla Model 3 RWD with 33k miles and I’m trying to figure out if my battery/range is normal or if I should be concerned.

Bought from CarMax. They estimated around 94% battery health, but not sure how accurate that is.

A few things:

- 2023 Model 3 RWD (LFP battery)
- 33k miles
- No warning lights or battery alerts
- Weather has been around 89–93°F
- Mostly using Chill mode
- Not driving aggressively for most of these tests

Some examples from today:

  1. About a 5-mile trip to the car wash and back (~10 miles total):
    75% → 69%

  2. Mostly highway drive (~26 miles one way, mix of ~65–80 mph):
    68% → 54%

Energy app today says:
- 41.6 miles driven
- 23.5% battery used
- Climate: 2.4%
- Battery conditioning: 1.3%
- Tesla said staying below 70 mph would have saved energy

I’m new to Teslas so maybe I’m just overthinking it, but does this sound normal for a 2023 RWD in summer or does this seem inefficient? Realistically, what range should I expect from 100% with this type of driving?

Squeaking sound

Hey, so I’m wondering if I can get a little bit of insight from anybody that might’ve been in the same situation. My appointment is over a week away and my car is making this squeaking sound. I want to know if anybody’s gone through this I could help me understand if I should keep driving or not.
From 0 to about 15 mph I get a slight little squeak. It seems to go with the rotation of the wheel.

Curious to know if it’s a simple robin that I could take care of myself or is it something bigger? I should be worried about and not drive my car till the appointment. Appreciate anybody’s insight. Thank you.

2023 Model 3 with 13k miles clean driving history I’ve had it for 2 weeks

I already have a delivery date and VIN number for my vehicle. Everything I put in is all legit verified checkstubs. Also I'm a little confused on the final payment tab, will I be paying more than it shows me due at delivery by much? I'm expecting a little increase due to fees but what's realistic?

HELP - Tesla Removed FSD

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone can help steer me in the right direction.

I bought a Tesla model Y today. 2023 model RWD model.

The car was advertised as having FSD, all the screenshots show self driving included package in software on the car, when I went to view the car it had it enabled too.

It went into Tesla for a horn repair yesterday as the dealer noticed an issue with the horn on the day I went to view. It’s then been delivered to me today by the dealer, I’ve paid for it etc and gone into settings and the FSD features are gone.

I think they’ve removed it when they’ve sorted the horn as they’ve done a software update on the car too.

As far as I was aware, it was tied to the cars VIN and as I say, the listing said it had FSD and was a huge reason I bought this particular car.

Anyone else had similar and had Tesla rectify it? Or if not, managed to get any money back?

I’m in the UK.

Thanks all!
