Unpopular view: The insurance/ship claim is isn’t awful.
I actually like the insurance changes.
Yeah the timing is rough. Bugs are real, and nobody wants to eat a claim timer because the server yeeted their ship into a moon. But bugs have always been part of this game, that’s not new, and it’s not a valid reason to avoid making progress on systems that needed to change a long time ago.
The old system bred lazy habits. Backspace out of a bad situation, reclaim at home for free, ship magically appears like nothing happened. There was zero cost to abandoning your ship halfway across the ‘verse. That’s not how this is supposed to work.
I get that bugs and a the current state of the system are a bad combo right now. But at some point you have to rip the bandaid off and figure out what needs fixing. You can’t build a better insurance system without actually running one. Now CIG can see where the real pain points are, legitimate bug losses vs. player negligence, and tune accordingly.
The direction is right. The ’verse should have weight to it. Your ship should matter. This is a step toward that.
