The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose is not the one
Yes, another post about The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose
This book was awful. Horribly written and horribly edited (see above). Then I get to the end and read the acknowledgments, and this is apparently a heavy rewrite and edit of the original text, which was published in 2020. I can’t imagine what the original version was like!
The stuff with law enforcement was the most horribly written/plotted for me. I can accept that, in fiction, the solving of crimes happens a lot faster, just like in television shows (DNA results readily available, etc.). But in what universe does the sheriff actually work with the criminal defense attorney to solve a case, sharing information all the while? In what universe does the sheriff confide anything with the defense attorney?! And in what universe does the sheriff decide to close the case and stop investigating—even though there’s relevant information!—once it has been turned over to the district attorney? That’s just not how it works.
The other big mess for me was the “reveal”, which has been discussed a lot already in these forums. Suffice to say that I agree it was dishonest writing because Sarah was never portrayed as an unreliable narrator (unlike the MC in Gone Girl, for example).
Anyway! TL;DR— this was awful and I’d love some recommendations for good thrillers. 📚
