24p to 25p Conforms
Hi all!
I am amazed at how cryptic the information is online about this topic (or also - how little recent info is available).
I am on Da Vinci Resolve Studio.
The Job:
I am prepping a project for a remote editor using AI footage and conforming the 24p sources to 25p for Edit in AVID. The Final project will be finished in 25p.
I will be batch conforming these files BEFORE editing. My process will be to load batches of clips into the 25p timeline and export as individual clips.
Here were my steps:
1. Created new project at 1080p 25 Frames with these settings checked in the Project Settings:
- Mixed frame rate = none
- Assist using reel names = source clip (AVID specific setting)
2. Imported 24p footage via Media Source Browser.
3. Created timeline at 25p.
4. Placed 24p footage into 25p timeline.
5. Rendered out in ProresHQ at 25p.
***The test clip I rendered DOES have Audio (a music track with a character singing lyrics).
My Issue:
It has been recommended in many old posts to then specifically speed up the clip 4% before conform.
However, to my ear I hear no discernible difference between the two clips. No speed up, no pitch change.
Is Da Vinci automatically processing this when the 24p clip is placed into the 25p timeline or is this 4% imperceivable and therefore I should still speed up the clip 4% before conform?
The exports confirm that they have been converted to 25p. The length is shorter than the 24p clip (as expected).
