Hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

Has anyone done hyperbaric oxygen therapy? My surgeon cleared me to do it, I had surgery 9/16 and it’s great for wound healing and post surgery recover.

I really want to start it, but I’m nervous about using Hollister or coloplast products in the chamber.

Some of them say they are flammable and I called both Hollister & Coloplast suppliers and there are no “studies” on using them in the chamber so they “can’t recommend them”.

My surgeon said I could use it for healing but I would have to ask Ostomy clinic, HBOT director and ostomy suppliers if it’s safe.

I contacted them all and they said to ask a different person so no one really knows.

Can someone please tell me if you’ve done HBOT with an ostomy; and what supplies you had when you went in so I know it’s safe?:) right now I use Hollister Ceraplus one piece 8091 and the Ceraplus adapt barrier ring. Thank you!

Watery output - Thickening tips?

Just had surgery 10 days ago.

No matter what I do it’s SO watery. Comes out like juice.

I’ve been trying everything to thicken.

Have been a ton of eating bananas, rice, toast, pasta, applesauce, tofu, potatoes, rice cereal.

Tried immodium - doesn’t work at all for me.

Pyslium husk capsules helped some, but can cause blockages so have to be careful. Also made me cramp a bit.

I’ve been getting so dehydrated so fast everyday that I have to go to wellness centers and get IVs.

I’ve had 1000-2000mL in output daily. I’ve notified doctor and we’re trying everything. Just weird because in the hospital the first 5-8 days it was normal.

Any advice appreciated. New to this.

How long did it take you to get your reversal surgery, and what were the reasons why?

How long did it take you to get your reversal surgery, and what were the reasons why?

I just got an end ileostomy; I am almost 2 weeks post-op (Crohns disease, 29F). So far I'm doing extremely well, I'm eating so much (I was on a liquid diet for 2 years). (I am almost concerned with how well I am doing and worried I am overdoing it or doing something wrong post op!!)

The full anastomosis was too dangerous for me to do because I was on steroids, severely underweight and malnourished, and am extremely anemic.

My surgery was almost 5 hours long and I was so dilated some of my intestines moved to my back and my surgeon literally had to "unstick" it from my back and move them back in place. wtf.

Once I gain 15lb and get off prednisone they will do the reversal.

Any advice for a newbie of how not to mess things up? What were your reasons for having the end ileostomy/ostomy, and are you planning on doing a reversal and when?

Just curious of your experiences, would love any advice for a newbie!

P.S. Soooo grateful to have this reddit community!!!! It's truly so supportive! Having an ostomy isn't so bad, I'm so grateful it saved my life.

First time Ileostomy. Diet tips?

Just got a ileostomy for the first time (I’m still in the hospital), Crohn’s disease, 29F.

I know everyone is different, but can you guys give me a list of what you know for sure triggers you and doesn’t/goes down well? It would be nice to know from others especially the first few weeks that I’m recovering!

Thank you for your tips!

Food Suggestions? Extremely Severe/strict diet (+ ideas for others on what I eat now)

Hi all!

I need food suggestions asap. I am SO limited because my flares have been SO bad and I desperately need to gain weight.

I'm mostly dairy free, I can tolerate a little dairy, like in candy or chocolate but I don't do large quantities of it like milk or yogurt.

The nutrition formulas and shakes are a complete NO NO for me. I think it's something about the high processing or something, not sure. I cannot tolerate oil (coconut, avocado, olive, etc.)

I try not to do a TON of sugar since it activates sibo, but i can do it in small amounts (20-30g a day).

Here's what I eat now:

  1. 2-4 tbsp of PB a day (can't tolerate more than that)... thinking about trying nutella too?

  2. Unlimited coconut malk (has 0g of fiber, pretty much the only milk I can find that has no fiber)

  3. Mori-Nu Silken Tofu - 0g of fiber, has to be the super silken/soft kind! It's not great taste wise but i eat it with dressing and it has 17g of protein per box :) I usually have it with peanut dressing/Asian sauce and it tastes like an Asian inspired dish!

  4. Instant mashed potatoes/potato flakes. These have less fiber than doing real mashed potatoes. I usually eat with butter/sour cream for calories.

  5. limited Icecream, maple syrup, honey for calories! but not too much bc of SIBO/inflammation it creates.

  6. The vegan forager unsweetened yogurt has only 1g fiber, the COCOjune passionfruit yogurt has 1g of fiber. Those are the only two yogurts I do.

  7. Once in a while I can tolerate caviar, but all other meat/fish products are a NO. These don't really have calories, it's just micronutrient heavy which is good.

Any suggestion that works for you guys?

Has anyone tried marshmallows or candy bars? They are 0-1g fiber and pretty much dissolve in your mouth, I'm always nervous about trying something new though in case I flare. Like marshmallows sound amazing texture wise but I'm so nervous.

Side note: supplement TUDCA and Hyperbaric oxygen therapy have been IMMENENSLY HELPFUL for my gastroparesis and gut motility. Hope it helps you too!!!

Need Advice for Bowel Resection

I'm having a bowel resection for Crohn's disease on July 15th. They will probably take out 12-15 inches. I failed Humira, Skyrizi, and Entyvio. Plan is to try Remicade after surgery.

Surgery risks: I am 96lb and malnourished. I failed TPN and had a catastrophic reaction to it, I can't tolerate most of the protein shakes/elemental formulas. I'm on 14mg prednisone and have unstable blood pressure. I've been on prednisone for over a year.

I will have a temporary loop ileostomy and probably get another surgery to get it removed in 3-4 months and heal in the meantime.

  1. Should I do an epidural?

  2. How should I prepare for the loop ileostomy? I'm SO scared and have no idea what to buy, what to expect, or how my quality of life will be. I really need advice on this. Any youtube videos I should watch? Do you have a checklist of what you would buy? How often do you change the bag? Will I have to learn to do this in the hospital or will they do it until I leave?

  3. Any other tips? Dealing with a lot emotionally right now, just ready for this to be over and start healing again.

Love this community and thank you for all of your help. <3 Having an ileostomy was always my worst fear but this community gives me hope it will be okay.

Bowel resection underweight :(

Has anyone here gotten a bowel resection being severely underweight and malnourished? I’m 98lb (f) and intolerant of TPN. I’m worried about the surgery risks and just having a lot of anxiety before my surgery in two weeks, especially since after surgery most people lose a ton of weight. I don’t have any to lose

Severe complications with bowel obstruction surgery :-(

I’m getting a bowel resection in two weeks. I am F, 98lb, and in my late 20s. The surgeon told me if I don’t gain weight (5-10lb at least) before the surgery it’s very risky, so they put me on TPN. I can barely tolerate food orally, at most I can have 800 liquid calories a day. I’ve been on the TPN for 2 weeks now, and I lost 2lb on it and my health has declined drastically. They tried taking out the lipids and I tolerated it maybe 15% better, but I am in extreme pain with the TPN, and whenever I take a one day break from it all of my pain goes away. Has anyone else had a bowel resection being severely underweight?:( I’m so worried because I don’t wanna lose more weight after the surgery :( I’ve been flaring for 2 years and on a liquid diet for 6+ months. I’m so tired and defeated😔
