A few initial questions

Hi all,

I’m considering applying for the PCEP in TVP. I’m 27 and will be moving over from the Military. Hoped to gain a little more insight from people in the know and this looked like the right place, thank you in advance!

- with regard to the typical shift pattern, how often do you get a weekend off? Fully aware this varies greatly of course.

- with the 6 on, 4 off pattern, is the early/late/night rhythm pretty much set or does that order change?

- how do you personally find the work life balance? I don’t have amazing expectations here, just a fiancé to offer some reassurance to.

- looking to the future, after a few years how likely is it that a PC can transition into a different role with a healthier work life balance. Not that I’m going into this with any expectation, just it would be nice to imagine a medium term goal like that.

MIOT PT Survivability

Hi all,

Just looking for some reassurance and clarity really.

Long story short, I’m due to start MIOT soon and the biggest thing looming in my mind is the PT/phys aspect as it isn’t the thing that comes most naturally to me, though I fully respect its centrality to the course and a have a positive attitude toward it.

I’d essentially like to know from those with knowledge of the course how you feel someone like myself would fair as I’m really quite nervous on this subject.

For context, I’m 28, can manage 9.5 on the MSFT, PB 5km is 28:30. My typical fitness routine centres on high intensity strength gym classes 3 times a week, 2 hour long lane swims, and around 10km of regular runs per week. I wasn’t overly sporty as a teen and get the feeling my foundational fitness isn’t as robust as it could be, but I’m proud of the progress made, just now worrying that it isn’t enough.

I fully appreciate being as fit as possible is the goal, but my question really is just whether my current standard would be around the survivable bench mark for the beginning of MIOT with a view to build further of course at 100% max effort.

Any insight would be hugely appreciated, thank you.

Marriage query prior to phase 1

Hi all,

Just a question of timing really. My long term partner and I have been engaged for a while and I’m due to commence MIOT in the later half of summer.

Is there any advantage to getting married prior to my course starting? I’m thinking mostly in terms of whether this could lead to more consideration of a preferred general location a first tour and/or housing post-MIOT.

I fully understand the service need coming first and foremost and we’re prepared for that, I just wondered however in peoples experience whether us rushing to the alter could have practical benefits like possibly reducing the odds of hauling them out of a good job and part of the country we quite like!

We’re quite satisfied with getting married on our original timeline if the feedback is that this is unlikely to make much of a difference. :)

And as a quick final question, when typically do you learn about your first posting in MIOT? Just thinking about when I can offer this reassurance to the other half!

Hi all,

Just looking for some advice as contact through proper channels like RITS and email has been unresponsive.

Long story short, I’m in the months between passing OASC and my MIOT start date. I feel as though I need to see a doctor about something that has just come up but is likely totally fine, but I’m worried about its potential impact on me joining but also feel the need to talk to a professional etc.

Is there a whole extra medical on the fam visit where this new contact with the NHS would be picked up and need to be investigated on my records before I can actually start?

Essentially I’m worried about anything that could delay things, it took me over 12 months to get to this stage, I spent 5 months TMU and have already handed in my notice at work as I wind things down so concerned with where I would be left if making contact with the NHS might derail my intake date etc.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who might have needed to see a GP while awaiting a start date, so any advice would be hugely appreciated.
