My OIC in a RASSO team (I am the victim) didn’t update me for 8 weeks on my case, ignored the last email I sent to them disclosing immediate post-offence disclosures/lines of enquiry to follow up on. They also didn’t update me on the suspect’s bail status before going on leave so I had to call 101 to chase a colleague in the team to update me.

This isn’t exactly police related but most of us work shifts and it takes its toll on our brain and body. I’ve been looking into why I have brain fog, lack of motivation, feel tired all the time etc etc and exploring different supplements and a lot of the ones reccomended are magnesium, b12, lions mane etc
Wondering if other officers on here have a supplement/vitamin routine, what do they take, what times of day etc? I work 2 days, 2 nights and 4 off.
I am starting in this role soon. Any advice on what to expect? When I went for my interview the guy at the counter said "Ooft you don't want to do that job". Shifts are 222 4 off. Anyone with experience of these shifts? Thanks ☺️
Hi all,
I’m considering applying for the PCEP in TVP. I’m 27 and will be moving over from the Military. Hoped to gain a little more insight from people in the know and this looked like the right place, thank you in advance!
- with regard to the typical shift pattern, how often do you get a weekend off? Fully aware this varies greatly of course.
- with the 6 on, 4 off pattern, is the early/late/night rhythm pretty much set or does that order change?
- how do you personally find the work life balance? I don’t have amazing expectations here, just a fiancé to offer some reassurance to.
- looking to the future, after a few years how likely is it that a PC can transition into a different role with a healthier work life balance. Not that I’m going into this with any expectation, just it would be nice to imagine a medium term goal like that.
Was driving past Mancunian way today and ever since it changed to 30mph speed limit, I've been very cautious since you never know if they going to put a speed camera there or mobile unit. For me this is the first time I've seen police at the end of the stretch towards Etihad direction. First of all I wasn't speeding and was slightly under 30mph, there was 2 police on the road side, one was holding a device shown in the photo and the other one pulled a vehicle on the side and is having a word with the driver. I normally seen police with the device that has a handgrip (typical handheld speed camera), this is my first time seeing a binoculars type of device.
Was just pulled over by Metro police opposite Eastgate. The lady traffic officer that pulled us over was not even interested in my license, instead she tried to sell us fake perfume. I kid you not! How’s that for a captured audience? Sunday 16 August +/- 14H00.
I’m so happy that I’ve done it and got in, I start training mid September, any tips? Also need to buy my own boots and don’t know what to get, any suggestions?
It is rare to shield a sacked Police Officer, they are usually named.
Curiosity if there is any police that go through these
Hi all,
I 22m have always wanted to join the police. From speaking to officers who I knew socially and reading this subreddit I decided that I wanted to work and get some life experience before joining. I graduated uni in 2025 and have been living up north in my uni city since, as I got quite a good job at a law firm while at the end of uni. (Selling houses not criminal).
I have 2 questions first one is when is the right time for me to join. As mentioned I wanted to join at 18 but decided to work and live life for a bit but I was wondering whether joining in the next year or so would be the right time. So I’d be 22/23. I want to have a fairly long career so want to join in my 20s but don’t know if the time is right.
I definitely feel that in the last 18 months since leaving uni and working full time I have gained more maturity and experience dealing with people (angry clients). While I completing understand that this does not relate totally I feel abit more ready because if it. So would you say now is the time to join?
My second question as stated I am working in the city I went to university in but would want to join the force in my home county would i need to move back down south before applying or can I apply from up here and only relocated when I get a start date. I understand this can take some time.
I am studying Mechanical Engineering and have always had an interest in the police. Just wondering what sorts of avenues this degree might open up for me if any.
My mind immediately goes to something like crash investigation and I run the vehicle dynamics department of my formula student team so I have a pretty strong grasp of that subject. However I’m fully aware that I could be connecting two dots that are unrelated.
Police staff. Had a rather spectacular breakdown type thing. which has resulted in some time off sick. Not really work related as far as I can tell, though exposure to certain things and the shift pattern probably hasn't helped.
I've been in a few years and it's the first time it's happened/first time I've had to take time off like this, and I'm worried about going back. I keep my head for the most part, fairly competent, people seem to find me helpful etc. I don't like that it's affected work in such a noticeable way, and I feel very embarrassed about it. I'm still a bit all over the place, and very preoccupied with work thoughts which obviously isn't all that helpful.
Work have been great. Understanding, patient, not being at all pushy with return (they suggested time off as I was reluctant, and have told me to make sure I'm better before coming back), phased return already mentioned when the time is right etc. Line manager has reassured me that people will still judge me on my work/the reputation I've developed over the years, and not this wobble. Can't shake the shit feeling though.
Has anyone else been through similar? How was it? All experiences welcome.
How to handle losing friends and family due to being an Officer? I recently spoke to my best friend about me joining, they said if I go through with it she'd hate me for the rest of our lives. I'm not an officer yet, I still have a while till I can join. However, I also dont know how to feel knowing my childhood dream is enough to ruin a friendship which I thought had more meaning to the pair of us than I thought.
I thought it wouldnt affect me if people hated me for it, but i hadn't anticipated my best friend being one of them. How do I get past it and talk to my friend about it?
I'm considering joining the police upon completion of my 2-Year college course (Level 3 Policing - which will result in me achieving an Extended Diploma), being an Officer or Detective has been a life long dream of mine since I was a young boy. However, i keep hearing stories of Officers quitting during their Probationary period or joining at a young age around 18-20 and then leaving shortly after joining.
I want the best possible career for me, however I'm unsure if joining at 18 is the best decision I can make. I like to think i have what it takes to push myself to continue even when it would be difficult to, however the turn over rate from what ive heard is quite high.
Is joining at 18 worth it or should I give it time then join?
Hello!
I want to join the force however I have previously struggled with my mental health. I do not have any official diagnoses, only referrals to talking therapies and two GP appointments considering OCD medication. I did not end up going on long-term medication and I have learned to manage and overcome my issues to a point where they dont really affect my daily life.
Would this be something to mention? And how do I express that this does not affect me anymore and I am able to healthily manage my mental health?
When did we start dress coding our boys in blue, respected police officers?
More and more of our Police Officers are dressed. In brown or ICE colored uniforms.
Is this being done with the intention of making ICE more relatable or to confuse us? I miss seeing our Police officers wearing Blue😔
My phone was confiscated by police two days ago as part of an ongoing investigation. I’m on police bail at the moment. They told me the police still want the phone to look for evidence. They want a little bit of info, not a full-blown investigation into everything on the phone. I am open to a forensic triage/examination. My main question is how long realistically can this process take. How quickly is an initial phone triage typically done? Could they return the phone after preserving the evidence if they only need to identify a small amount of relevant evidence? Are two days too early to expect some progress? How long do police generally hold phones due to digital-forensics backlogs Would it be reasonable for my solicitor to ask the investigating officer for a timescale estimate? I am not asking for advice on how to delete, hide or change anything on the phone. I just want to know what the normal process, and the realistic timescale, looks like.
