A Lib Dem spokesperson said in response to the news that John Simons was resigning for Burnham: “To believe that representing a community is a gift to be handed to your mate shows utterly, out-of-touch contempt."

Personally, I really want Burnham to have a seat because I’d rather him than Streeting as PM. But is it fair that it’s happening this way? Genuinely curious.
