I used my laptop as if it was desktop and put it high up my computer desk. I set it to sleep after idling for too long but modern standby kept it half-awake and consuming electricity all night. Then, I go for normal shut down but then I'll have to climb up my desk every time I want to turn it back on. Then I tried Wake-on-LAN (WoL). It works and is good enough but I still wonder if there is anything that can emulate just that wake up call, aka (magic packet) with a click of a button, signalling through the same LAN port and nothing else. That would save a lot of cabling just for one function.
