Switched my tower to PC and it’s better in every way, has PC always been ahead?

20+ years as a designer on MacBooks and Mac towers. Every single one has had problems. Batteries die fast, they shut off when they want, performance degrades within 2-3 years, keyboards fail, ports break, fans scream under loads that shouldn’t faze them.

Recently built a PC for 3D work and it’s faster and better in every way. Now I’m wondering, has PC actually been better this whole time and I just didn’t know because “Macs are the industry standard for design”? Or am I in a honeymoon phase?

Have I been drinking the Kool-Aid for two decades, or is there a real reason designers stay on Mac?

Question for playing old DOS games

I am unsure this is the proper place to post the question but I am wanting to play an old DOS game from my childhood. I currently have a Mac so I’m looking to get a PC because no matter why I try, it will not run on my Mac. I’m really just wanting to play my DOS games from childhood like Torin’s Passage and possibly even older games like word munchers and treasure mountain (I think that’s what it’s called). I also wouldn’t mind playing newer “cozy” games, any recs for systems would be appreciated! I am looking for anything budget friendly.

updated bios ftmp

my friend updated her bios (b550 mk bios version 2403 to most recent one) and when she turns on her pc this screen appears and i’m wondering if i can get some help understanding this screen. In order to get rid of this screen will she have to go back to previous bios version as it says since she doesn’t have any recovery keys so she can’t press Y or is there another way to fix it. I’m sure this is a dumb question but neither of us know anything about this and we just want this screen gone (she can still boot her pc but this screen just appears before and she just presses n and it takes her to the regular sign in screen)

problem with mother board

I have a funny situation. As soon as I insert the graphics card (1050 Ti), I can't insert the SATA. Any ideas? I immediately realized the motherboard is old and there's no M2 slot.
In the photo, the video card is not fully inserted because the SATA port does not allow the video card to be inserted.

Am i Cooked? Asus TUF F15

For the previous two weeks, my laptop experienced a problem where the Bluetooth and WiFi options entirely vanished at odd times. The problem was temporarily resolved by pressing Network Reset in the settings and holding the power button for thirty seconds.

Every time the alternatives vanish, I employ this technique.

I performed the same procedure today, but this time the laptop didn't start up; instead, it displayed this..

I've watched more than 20–30 YouTube videos, tried a number of various approaches, and asked AI to assist me, but none of them worked.

I've finally made up my mind to visit the repair shop, but I would really like to try more on my own with the support of this community.

Shitty PC keeps freezing and wont shut down.

So I got a shitty prebuilt PC off Amazon, it’s decent for gaming but I don’t really need it to have good graphics, just to play games, which it can. Now my issue is that after 2-3 years (now) it randomly freezes out of nowhere. It doesn’t shut down, just completely freezes, all audio cuts too.

I usually can’t shut it down either without unplugging it and no matter how long it’s frozen it won’t shutdown or restart without unplugging and replugging it. It’s extremely annoying especially when I also need to do schoolwork sometimes.

It would also be worth mentioning that whenever I restart, 80% of the time it freezes basically right after I unplug and plug it back in. Help?

To those unaware: DO NOT use Wondershare.

This is my attempt at not violently slandering wondershare to the ground on every platform imaginable.
I did a fair bit of research before paying for UniConverter. I’m just naturally untrusting of anything said on forums.
Despite my lack of better judgement, I decided to go with the name I recognized and not one of the lesser known options. BIG MISTAKE.

I was doing a PC wipe trying to reconfigure file locations and where my videos were stored. I’m a college age hobbyist. That said, I squeeze as many hours of recording, editing, and content creation into my days as possible. So for the last 4-6 days I’ve been prepping for the actual pc reset. Backing up files, compressing where I can.

I wanted to find a reliable way to safely compress the files that wasn’t just .zip, as many of you may know, the process takes time. Time that I didn’t have to babysit my PC in storm season with my work and studies. So I bought UniConverter, but only after having watched close to 20 videos speaking about it. Some from their page, some from “unprompted” tech creators, and even the ones that are intentionally too harsh. At the end of the day, I went for it. I’m a big name kind of person. And in the past, despite some troubles, that’s worked out for me.

WonderShare is the exception.

So, if you’re considering using UniConverter to save time on your compression. Know this:
YOU WONT BE ABLE TO RELIABLY DECOMPRESS THE FILES. Despite their official YouTube saying otherwise.

TL:DR
I was an idiot and fell for false marketing, and lost 50gb of footage, and a week of work. DONT USE WONDERSHARE.

I suddenly got more space in my C drive

Until yesterday, I had around 36 GB of free storage on my C drive, and today I noticed that I suddenly got 60 GB of free storage without doing anything.
Is my pc safe? Or is some malware deleting stuff from my computer?

Computer from 2019 lags when games are over "medium" graphics

Hi! First off, my computer skills is 0. So i'm hoping you guys can help me out.

I'm having issues with my computer from 2019. Since i bought it, my computer can't handle games at relatively "good" graphics. Is it normal that these specs can't handle for example WoW retail and Guild Wars 2 with decent graphics? What can be the issue?

Painstakingly went through every file on my C: drive yesterday, saved 20gb. Came back this morning, completely filled up again.

I don't know what to do anymore...

This happens every single time. I'm so exhausted from it, but I can't stand it anymore. I went from 3gb free on my C: drive to ~28gb free because I went through I deleted a bunch of stuff.

Did not download anything at all in between that time. Come back now, I'm back to 5gb free.

I've run out of things to delete, I'm at a loss for words.

SSD is not recognized by any device

So I will be quick. Last night my laptop was working perfectly, I never had to open it before. Today, it goes straight to the BIOS, and doesn't read the SSD, however it knows it exists, as booting up the laptop without the SSD is waaay quicker than with it on. I also know this cause I connected it on my PC, and the time I booted the PC it got straight into the BIOS asking for which boot device to use, but my laptop's SSD wasn't there. I checked on device management (and other disk related setting), and it never showed up. The SSD light is powered at all times, so it technically receives power. Is there anything else to do for my SSD, or I need to format it and forget about my stored data?

Is this possible?

I wasn’t getting alot of my work emails I googled it and said to check filters. When I checked it had all these filters. Once deleted Im now getting normal emails again. My question is are these default or did someone else put them on? I did not.

Ps we do have like a weird disgruntled “IT” guy

Desperate for advice on my hacked Microsoft (Minecraft) account.

So, I downloaded a hacked Minecraft jar from 9minecraft... Looks to be a simple browser cookie stealer, they were about to get into my microsoft account (I didn't have 2fa enabled at that time). I still have access to the OG gmail account, from which I can see that they did whatever complicated sequence of adding authentication apps, adding recovery emails, changing my passwords, to now where I have no way of getting back in the account.

Now, I've tried submitting the Microsoft account recovery form, and I'm fairly sure I have a decent amount of info (the billing info, the zip code the account was created at, the xbox gamertag) but am I completely screwed because the attacker enabled 2FA on his end??

And does the form ever actually recover accounts, or is the most they do suspend them?

I'm asking because it's imperative that the account remains open to being played on Minecraft/Hypixel, a lock or suspension of the account is absolutely NOT what I want. Anyone have the best advice for someone in my situation?
