To be a lawyer - need networks
So I’m studying like crazy for the bar… and it’s always like OK. You need to study hard and get your high score on all those stories, but let’s face it. What happened after the bar…
If you’re sitting for the New York exam, it’s obvious you need your 50 pro bono hours and the exam NY. Since last year, I have been trying to get those 50 hours, but it's been impossible. I had several interviews to volunteer for, and they literally told me, "We'll call you back." I mean, I’m going to work for free.
I am a licensed attorney in another country obviously that I have some experience dealing with people in different context, but always, or at least the questions that I receive are for kids, for example: tell me an experience that you have during your classes where you have to phase a difficult situation, or How You Handle difficult People, I mean, I used to work in family law, dealing with domestic violence women running for their life and all those kind of very difficulties scenarios and these interviews have my CV and keep making those questions. I don’t get it.
Anyway, I believe the bar is just a test where you need to show that you know enough information, or at least, which is a constant reminder from my bar prep. a test you needed to pass, and you needed to pass it at a minimum.
I keep studying for many hours. I finished constitutional law, my last review, or at least that’s what I believe, but my worries come after the bar, and if I get the bare minimum score. How am I gonna get 50 hours pro bono? I’m gonna get a job?One friend told me that I should look for a mentor. Yes, I tried to find a mentor, and in fact, I met a lawyer who said, “Oh, I could be your mentor.” But guess what, fake news, that lawyer spend more time on social media, posting videos - I am working - follow me for more - , maybe I have high expectations... I was looking for explanations of the nuances of the law and the practice of law. I don’t know what you think; maybe I’m the only one thinking this way.
And by the way, I went to one conference to learn how to create networks and being in contact with colleagues, because I mean, I try... I remember that during those conferences they always use LinkedIn to build networks, text to everyone on LinkedIn, who can do that every week?, I mean, I have stuff to do, I cant spend all day texting on LinkedIn.
Furthermore, oversharing my life online when I crave privacy, I don’t want to be data for somebody else, or even get spam mail or phone calls. I don’t want to be sharing inspirational quotes or letting me tell you what I learned today, blah blah blah.
I prefer to work as a professional rather than an influencer who doesn’t know anything about the profession.
But don’t get me wrong it’s OK if you want to have your LinkedIn and your stuff that’s OK that’s up to you. That’s your choice, but I believe that they should not force everyone to fit into that circle because I don’t feel comfortable.
Well
Just study for the bar
