I have read in both Barbara Tuchman’s Distant Mirror and in Imagined Communities that medieval people did not foresee technical or social change to occur in the future, and limited their view of the future to whatever their religious eschatology was (if Abrahamic). To what extent is this true?

Does it seem strange to anyone else how time seems to crawl in this game? Like I am playing as England and William Rufus’ son is my king in 1280. So he is like…120? 100? It is weird because now there is gunpowder but the grandparents of my characters were born in the Saxon era.
