Will I still be allowed to have surgery if I don’t have anyone to look after me for 24 hours after going home from hospital?

Hey everyone!

So next week should be having gynaecological surgery next week under general anaesthetic and it’s a surgery to which will completely help my quality of life as I was born with a rare condition that has causes chronic pain.

I’m now in a predicament that I think a lot of people will have been in. My brother (who was supposed to attend the hospital after my surgery to pick me up and make sure I’m ok) has recently informed me that he booked a holiday with his best friend and unfortunately they seem to be getting on the plane the same day of my surgery. Like the worst timing ever.

The problem is he was my only point of contact. I recently moved to a new area after fleeing dv and with no friends and unfortunately I have mean neighbours so I can’t ask them.

My brother called the hospital and the receptionist said I could be waiting a year back on the waiting list if I were to reschedule however my brother and his friend are very adamant that they don’t want to waste their holiday if they can find another solution other than him attending.

He ended up just saying that I should still just turn up and get the surgery then book an uber in advance but I feel like that isn’t gonna work.

I’ve had general anaesthetic before and I know I’ll be alright but the policy is that I need someone to collect me at the very least.

Can someone please help advise me on my options please. Like do I just turn up and say someone is coming to get me and hope they let me walk out on my own to get an uber/taxi or is it more complicated like someone has to physically walk into the building to collect me?

I’m really sorry for the long story and bad grammar lol. Please help me
