Fanfic concept: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie - REWRITTEN *Minor Spoilers*
I personally found this movie to be a bit of a letdown, especially regarding its treatment of Rosalina. I just whipped up this little snippet a couple days ago, and I'd like to turn it into a full-fledged story at some point. Let me know what you think.
Princess Peach cautiously made her way through the trees, toward where she had seen what looked like a small meteorite hit the ground a few minutes ago. Despite the concerns of her retainers, she had opted to investigate this strange occurrence herself. While she and the Mario Brothers had successfully defeated and contained King Bowser a while back, his forces were still out there, and Peach had resolved to remain vigilant for any signs of mischief from the Koopa Kingdom.
Eventually, she came to an area where several trees had fallen and a sizable crater sat in the middle of the singed grass. As she walked closer to the crater and peered into it, she was briefly confused when she saw a bright blue color at its center. When she looked closer, a sharp gasp escaped her lips as she realized the blue object was no space rock or crystal.
It was a person.
Lying unconscious in the middle of the crater was a tall, svelte woman wearing an elegant light blue dress emblazoned with several star patterns. Her long platinum-blonde hair lay askew across her face, and a silver jewel-adorned crown rested on its side near her head.
Peach leapt over the side of the crater and ran down to where the mysterious woman lied, kneeling down next to her and placing a hand on her neck. She breathed a deep sigh of relief upon feeling the rhythmic beating of the woman’s heart, only to have her own heart nearly stop when the woman abruptly jolted awake with a sudden gasp and a panicked look in her eyes.
“Whoa!” Peach involuntarily jumped back as the woman snapped up into a sitting position and looked around frantically, her breaths quick and shallow. “Easy there!” she said, trying to get the woman’s attention. “Are you okay?”
“What… What happened?! Where am I?!” the woman said breathlessly. “No, no! I need to get back to the Observatory!”
“Please, try to calm down!” Peach said, stepping back toward the woman and kneeling in front of her. “I’m here to help you, just take a deep breath and look at me.”
The woman’s breathing slowed slightly as her eyes met the princess’s, though Peach could see that she was dazed and still freaked out. “I-I couldn’t stop them… They came to steal… the Grand Stars… I tried to protect them, but… they threatened my children…”
Peach placed a hand on the strange woman’s shoulder. “Hey, look at me. You’re in a safe place now.”
The woman shook her head. “No, I have to go back!” A single tear ran down her cheek. “My children… they’re in danger…”
Peach’s heart clenched with sympathy. She didn’t know this person, nor did she have any idea what the “Grand Stars” she referred to were, but this woman had clearly been through something terrible. “I promise I’ll listen to what you have to say, just breathe. If your children are in trouble, I’ll help you. I know some people who can assist us,” she said soothingly. “Can you tell me your name?”
The woman closed her eyes and drew in several slow, deep breaths before looking back to Peach. “My name is… Rosalina,” she said finally.
Peach smiled. “Nice to meet you, Rosalina. I’m Princess Peach of the Mushroom Kingdom. My castle’s not far from here, we can talk more there. Can you walk?”
“Y-Yes, I think so…” Rosalina said as she unsteadily pulled herself to her feet. “Thank you…”
