AITA for asking my roommate to please turn down or use headphones for their loud music they’re playing in the kitchen while I am trying to watch TV?

We live in an apartment where the kitchen and living room are the same room. I came home and they were playing their music very loud and I sat down to watch TV thinking they would turn their music down, they did not so I slightly turned up the TV. In response, they turned their music up to max volume. Things came to a head and I asked hey can you please turn that down or use headphones? They refused. They said what I was asking was “weird” and “unreasonable” and they’re allowed to “enjoy themselves because this is a shared space and they pay rent 50/50 so they can do what they want”

Edit: I forgot to add, so am I weird for this? I thought this was a pretty normal thing to ask and was the most considerate solution?

Edit again for more context: I didn’t intend for it to be passive aggressive, this person is VERY combative and I don’t like confrontation. I waited to give them the chance to lower the volume instead of immediately asking them to lower it because they weren’t alone in the room anymore, and I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.
