Who else loves a kick snare hat setup?

When I am uninspired I just put toms and extra cymbals away, and focus on beats. It feels good.

So I pulled the trigger on a new bop kit... my honest unsolicited opinion on a yamaha stage custom bop.

I was not sure if I needed another 18 inch kit, but the reviews on yamaha stage customs are pretty much unanimous. And I can see why.

I unboxed it almost ready to find something to hate about it, considering my other kit is more premium and more expensive than this one... and knowing how fussy i am with drums.

But in all honesty, it sounds amazing. It was easier to tune than other more expensive kits. The tom mount is sheer perfection. Simple and effective. My main kit mount system seems engineered by satan...

All in all, i give it a 9, because it comes with shitty heads that I haven't even tried. I will donate them immediately to the school where i teach.

I want to point out though, if you are considering buying it...

In my opinion the BOP, has a real meaning here. I believe this will perform great in a jazz trio/quartet etc and of course practice and content creation. I would not use it to replace a rock kit. I believe this is due to the density and weight of the shells, not a flaw, but a specific characteristic if you look for responsive bright drums, not extremely loud or deep. I hope this helps someone considering buying it and if you have any questions I am happy to answer.

Gear guilt

I am looking at yamaha stage customs bop kits.

It looks and sounds so premium. Like i am one click away from buying it but I own already a bop drumkit. And although I am teaching basically most of the week, alongside my main job, I don't gig much (or at all) due to my band playing a very niche genre, my inability to network with other musicians, and the fact that I am also a bit snobby about the people I play with and the type of music to play. I do however spend a fair amount of time in my room practicing, honing my craft and recording some little video for the gram... which in all honesty makes me quite happy.

But I feel that is not enough to have my 2nd (second and half if considering that i got 2 kicks for my main kit, a 20 and an 18 that I exchange based on the sound I want) bop kit

In case you're wondering my first kit is a drumcraft series 6. Sounds and looks really premium. But i over obsess over scratches and I try to avoid sharing the kit for this exact reason.

I know my wife will be mad about it.

So i am very tempted, at the same time i feel is a luxury that will make me feel guilty and will take space and money... I guess I just want you guys to help me consider pros and cons of a potential purchase.

Fusion sizes are the sweet spot imo

Also, I have been obnoxious in the past about not using dampening on the kick... I haven't for years in all honesty and I finally decided to put a little pillow inside my 20. I love some kick resonance but I must say that that the kick definition makes playing fast less messy and clear... kinda missed that
