student-run clinics

hi all,

im rlly discouraged rn. i am a premed student here at davis and i truly want to volunteer with a student-run clinic. i've applied to about 5, each of those clinics aligning with a particular interest or passion of mine. in my first year, i got interviews from all of them, but didn't get into a single one. im entering my second year soon, and i still really want to apply, but am a bit discouraged. any tips, advice, etc. would be appreciated.

thank you!!

Subject to Academic Disqualification

Hi all, made a post somewhat recently but have some follow-up questions.

  1. What is academic disqualification vs. academic dismissal? These terms seem to used kind of interchangeably, and now I'm scared.

  2. I submitted my appeal for academic DISQUALIFICATION, and made the appointment with a CBS advisor. I asked my doctor and therapists for notes. I am also an SDC student by the way. What should I speak about at the appointment? I really do not want to be put on break. I mean yes my GPA overall is about a 2.5 and this is my first time, but I'm still really nervous.

If anyone has been through this or has any advice to share, I would appreciate it so so much.

Thanks!

advice on getting gpa up

hi! im an incoming sophomore premed. i havent had the best first year. i was diagnosed with lupus, RA, and in turn, struggled with my mental health (diagnosed with major depressive disorder) throughout this year. i still tried my very best, but academically it's not looking ideal. I have a 3.2 right now, and my ECs r mainly carrying my app. over the 3 quarters, my cgpa progressed as such: 2.85 --> 2.99 --> 3.21. I have only taken stem courses. im not sure what to do. my parents told me to at least finish my summer courses and second year to decide if i want to drop premed. ie explore other career options. any advice? on how to make a come back, if i have a shot, etc...

im ready to work hard, and considering i am finally (!!) off of prednisone, i think many of my symptoms should be getting better. still, any advice or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. :) thank you!

mat 17b --> mat 21b

hi all,

im currently in mat 17a. im doing rather well, with a 92 in the class. points off mainly for never going to discussion. i am a human bio major, and we can (with the approval of an advisor) go straight from mat 17a to mat 21b to fulfill our calculus requirement. i have decided to do this, and will be taking 21b in SS1. i have taken the the equivalent of mat 21a at sac city college. still, i'm nervous for 21b. any advice? i do not know who my prof is yet.

Hello!

I'm curious if anyone has heard about Drexel SOM. Any details would be helpful. It's my dream med school. So far on my application, I have:

- Out of state applicant

- Biology and Sociology double major, Professional Writing Minor

- 3.8 GPA

- haven't taken MCAT yet, consistently scoring 518-521 on practice exams

- 1500 hours working as a bookkeeper for a business

- 1200 hours research in 2 wet labs, no publications though

- 1300 hours working for a newspaper as editor's assistant

- 200 hours shadowing 2 specialties (geriatrics, emergency medicine)

- 250 hours scribing (emergency medicine)

- 1000 hours working as a CNA

- 3 leadership position in school clubs (1 union, 1 cultural, 1 medcine-related)

- swim club 3 years so roughly 720-800 hours

- mentalhealth fellowship (28 hours), then became a facilitator (100 hours)

- hobbies include swimming, running, (working out overall), cooking, and I create content on how to live with an autoimmune illness

- pls note that i do have a C and D in my first quarter of school (because of an autoimmune illness diagnosis that led to depression), but after that, not a single B or lower.

I hope someone can give me feedback and lmk if there's anything to make my app stronger!

Thank you so much!
