Very weird rust question

Hello everyone, I am moving to a area where I am only allowed to legally keep a pistol in a safe in a vehicle. The area is in an area where it will get extremely cold in the winter and I am trying to figure out how I could keep the pistol in a case without it rusting.

I need help

I am making an european mount and I am struggling removing the bugs on the inside of the skull. I tried burying the skull instead of boiling it for context. Any help would be appreciated
