Thoughts on this itinerary

My family is going to Cape Cod next week (a somewhat last minute trip). My husband generated this itinerary and I am wondering and wanting to know if this looks good. We also have an extra day that we orginally did not think that we had so we are needing ideas for other things to do. The trip would be leaving 5/29 and then leaving to return home on 6/3. We aere also thinking of a later flight home and making a stop a long the way of any one has suggestion on what to do between Boston and Cape Cod. Any kind and helpeful feedback is appreciated. It will be my husband and I along with our 14 & 12 y/o daughters and 7.5 y/o son.

✈️ Day 1 — Sunday, June 1 | Fly In & Arrive Cape Cod

Travel: Fly Atlanta → Boston Logan or Hyannis. Pick up a rental car and drive to your Cape Cod home base (Hyannis or Chatham area is ideal — central to everything).

Afternoon: Settle in, grab lobster rolls for dinner, and decompress. The Cape in early June is magical — summer crowds haven't fully arrived yet.

🐳 Day 2 — Monday, June 2 | Cape Cod Adventures

Morning: Head out on a whale watch from Barnstable Harbor. Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises (rated 4.8) runs ~4-hour trips and naturalists come around to engage kids directly — reviewers say June is a prime feeding month with excellent sightings.

Afternoon: Drive to Nauset Beach in Orleans — a stunning Atlantic-side beach with soft sand, big waves (great for your 14- and 12-year-old), a calmer area for your 7-year-old, and food trucks on-site.

Evening: Head up to Provincetown for dinner and a stroll down Commercial Street — colorful, fun, and lively for all ages.

🏝️ Day 3 — Tuesday, June 3 | Ferry to Nantucket

Morning: Take the Hy-Line Cruises fast ferry from Hyannis — about 1 hour each way. Book round-trip tickets in advance (they sell out in summer). No car needed on Nantucket — rent bikes or take the shuttle.

Afternoon: Hit Steps Beach — calm water, a sandbar at low tide that's perfect for your 7-year-old to wade out 20–40 feet, and a charming floral tunnel path to get there.

Late Afternoon: Walk into town for ice cream, then visit the Nantucket Whaling Museum (open until 4 PM, rated 4.8). It has a dedicated discovery zone for kids, whale skeletons, and daily presentations — plan 1.5–2 hours. Your ticket also gets you into other historic island sites.

Evening: Dinner in Nantucket town, then ferry back to Cape Cod.

🌲 Day 4 — Wednesday, June 4 | Cape Cod National Seashore & Adventure

Morning: Explore the Cape Cod National Seashore — stop at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham, walk the trails, spot the iconic lighthouses (Nauset Light is a must), and keep an eye out for seals in the water. It's free with America the Beautiful pass or a small vehicle fee.

Afternoon: The Adventure Park at Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich (rated 4.7) has zip lines and aerial obstacle courses with color-coded difficulty levels — perfect for all three kids and adults too. Opens at 3 PM on weekdays, all day weekends. Note: if you're visiting mid-week, confirm hours for June.

Evening: Dinner back in your home base area — try a classic Cape Cod clam shack experience.

🏖️ Day 5 — Thursday, June 5 | Beach Morning & Fly Home

Morning: One last beach stop at Corporation Beach in Dennis — calm bay-side water, great for hermit crab hunting (a highlight for families with kids), snack bar, clean bathrooms, and outdoor showers. Perfect send-off.
