Why I'm running for County Commissioner

I'm running for County Commissioner because our young people deserve to build their lives here. Our working families deserve homes they can afford. And our retirees deserve to stay in the communities they've built.

No Traffic on Friday before Memorial Day

The Friday before Memorial Day and the route to the Cape is completely green. Has everyone simultaneously concluded that the Cape is now too crowded and expensive and gone to Rhode Island or Maine instead?

Cape Cod Kids Activities This Weekend (ADHD)

Hi all,

Coming to Cape this weekend for a soccer tournament. My younger child (who is coming along) is going to be bored out of his mind. Looking for activities for him - he has ADHD so something that's hands-on, participation rather than observation, etc. would be super helpful.

So far, we have biking, swimming (in the hotel pool), and potentially fishing.

Many thanks!

Camping the weekend at Nickerson

Hello-- we are a family of 6 with 4 kids below 12 tent camping at Nickerson park. The weather looks miserable rain all day sunday to monday, which leaves only saturday to enjoy. Even if we don't swim in the water, would saturday be too cold/windy to go to the beach? The children's museum is closed sunday and monday. We were too late to book day passes for the waterpark.

I will also take any other suggestions for things to do, even in the rain outdoors. I was thinking of doing the atlantic pine boardwalk and the natural history museum.

My spouse wants to cancel :( I think rain gear and umbrellas can still be fun

Thank you for your help!

FYI: Sirloin tips are $7.99/lb at stop and shop for the weekend.

They look great. I bought 11 lbs. Its a great deal these days and meat price have been steadily rising. Sirloin prices have risen over 20% in the last 12 months.

Graduation signs?

Probably a little late for this but does anyone know anywhere locally to get a yard sign for my son who's graduating? I'm not looking for anything large, maybe a sign the same size as the ones used for political campaigns? Thanks!

Thoughts on this itinerary

My family is going to Cape Cod next week (a somewhat last minute trip). My husband generated this itinerary and I am wondering and wanting to know if this looks good. We also have an extra day that we orginally did not think that we had so we are needing ideas for other things to do. The trip would be leaving 5/29 and then leaving to return home on 6/3. We aere also thinking of a later flight home and making a stop a long the way of any one has suggestion on what to do between Boston and Cape Cod. Any kind and helpeful feedback is appreciated. It will be my husband and I along with our 14 & 12 y/o daughters and 7.5 y/o son.

✈️ Day 1 — Sunday, June 1 | Fly In & Arrive Cape Cod

Travel: Fly Atlanta → Boston Logan or Hyannis. Pick up a rental car and drive to your Cape Cod home base (Hyannis or Chatham area is ideal — central to everything).

Afternoon: Settle in, grab lobster rolls for dinner, and decompress. The Cape in early June is magical — summer crowds haven't fully arrived yet.

🐳 Day 2 — Monday, June 2 | Cape Cod Adventures

Morning: Head out on a whale watch from Barnstable Harbor. Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises (rated 4.8) runs ~4-hour trips and naturalists come around to engage kids directly — reviewers say June is a prime feeding month with excellent sightings.

Afternoon: Drive to Nauset Beach in Orleans — a stunning Atlantic-side beach with soft sand, big waves (great for your 14- and 12-year-old), a calmer area for your 7-year-old, and food trucks on-site.

Evening: Head up to Provincetown for dinner and a stroll down Commercial Street — colorful, fun, and lively for all ages.

🏝️ Day 3 — Tuesday, June 3 | Ferry to Nantucket

Morning: Take the Hy-Line Cruises fast ferry from Hyannis — about 1 hour each way. Book round-trip tickets in advance (they sell out in summer). No car needed on Nantucket — rent bikes or take the shuttle.

Afternoon: Hit Steps Beach — calm water, a sandbar at low tide that's perfect for your 7-year-old to wade out 20–40 feet, and a charming floral tunnel path to get there.

Late Afternoon: Walk into town for ice cream, then visit the Nantucket Whaling Museum (open until 4 PM, rated 4.8). It has a dedicated discovery zone for kids, whale skeletons, and daily presentations — plan 1.5–2 hours. Your ticket also gets you into other historic island sites.

Evening: Dinner in Nantucket town, then ferry back to Cape Cod.

🌲 Day 4 — Wednesday, June 4 | Cape Cod National Seashore & Adventure

Morning: Explore the Cape Cod National Seashore — stop at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham, walk the trails, spot the iconic lighthouses (Nauset Light is a must), and keep an eye out for seals in the water. It's free with America the Beautiful pass or a small vehicle fee.

Afternoon: The Adventure Park at Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich (rated 4.7) has zip lines and aerial obstacle courses with color-coded difficulty levels — perfect for all three kids and adults too. Opens at 3 PM on weekdays, all day weekends. Note: if you're visiting mid-week, confirm hours for June.

Evening: Dinner back in your home base area — try a classic Cape Cod clam shack experience.

🏖️ Day 5 — Thursday, June 5 | Beach Morning & Fly Home

Morning: One last beach stop at Corporation Beach in Dennis — calm bay-side water, great for hermit crab hunting (a highlight for families with kids), snack bar, clean bathrooms, and outdoor showers. Perfect send-off.

What’s worse, tourists or seasonals?

Just for fun poll, what’s worse seasonals or tourists and why?

My input is seasonals are worse. They forget that not everyone on the cape is retired. When they come back in April you instantly have folks going 30 on 151 and 28. I’ve also noticed they tend to be condescending to the service staff on cape. What’s your input.

Rod rental for fishing

Not quite staying in the Cape (will be in Bourne), but my wife will be away at a wedding rehearsal and I’ll have some time to myself. She doesn’t want me packing my rods. Any good, recommended rental spots? Any good shoreline or pier fishing spots? Thanks, will be getting my MA fishing license and hitting the road soon.

I am reminiscing of getting ice cream at Kate's and watching the sunset over Paine's Creek (original art)

How would you rate this painting?

A client recently reached out to me asking if I could paint a small canvas of her mom’s last time on Cape Cod.

I’ll be honest — every commission means a lot to me because someone is trusting me with something meaningful to them. But this one felt especially emotional. It wasn’t just a photo… it was a moment that will never happen again.
Creating something tied to a person who passed away felt incredibly meaningful and honestly a little intimidating too, because I wanted to do it justice.

I already sent it to her and she was really happy with how it turned out, which made me so relieved 🥹 But I wanted to ask — what thoughts or feelings does this painting give you? I’d genuinely love to hear honest feedback, both emotionally and artistically.

Affordable rentals?

Sorry if this doesn’t belong here. I’m just hitting wall after wall like I’m sure many people are when it comes to finding anything affordable to rent on the cape or even just off cape. I work in the mid cape area and ideally would be in the upper cape area or just off cape.

For reference I’m a 28m with a clean hairless cat and have a budget of about $1700 a month for a 1br 1ba or decent sized studio. Quiet, clean, respectful, job security with a well established nonprofit. I’m constantly scouring the Facebook pages and rental websites but I can barely find anything livable, especially having a pet.

I’m at a loss on how I can stay working on the cape with a job I love helping people and animals. But I’m losing hope on being able to stay here.

Help with building home

Hey all! My gfs grandmother is giving us an acre of land to build a house on. Woohoo! Except even with a $300k piece of land, we’re worried a 124k/year gross income is STILL not even enough. We would only be able to afford MAYBE 1000 sqft stick build, so we’re looking at modular homes.

1st question: does anyone have experience with modular homes on cape? Any recommendations? We are considering Coastal Companies for the contractor.

2nd question: we were hoping to use some MassHousing grants/loans to our advantage but after speaking with a mortgage lender, they’re telling us that MassHousing programs only help with buying homes and not building homes.. does anyone have any ideas on programs that could help us?

Thanks so much!

Cops on 6

I moved to the cape in November for work from Virginia (I am used the the VA state police) and I am really curious what people get pulled over for on 6? The 7am commute crowd is always flying on 6 and regularly I see cops at the rest stops and other spots but what are they pulling people over for?? I heard one of my coworkers say they don’t care as long as you are going under 80 it’s just really mind blowing for me having lived in Virginia my whole life.

Hyannis beaches?

I’m staying in Hyannis for a girls trip at the beginning of June and would love to do a beach day but I’m not super familiar with the beaches there. I was thinking mayflower beach or sandy neck. Do you have to arrive super early? Is a beach day worth it?
