I've got a small server at home, so I built my own DQVC for Dragon Quest IX!

I love DQIX and wanted to get back into it, but I remembered that it also had an online store (DQVC) in-game. I googled around for a bit and found out that you can host that for yourself, so I did! Image is me connecting to the shop successfully for the first time!

Edit: to explain how I set this up, here a short summary:

The server runs on Proxmox and is split into two services: an OpenWrt VM and a Debian LXC container hosting the DQIX service. The service is based on DaisukeDaisuke's project "dq9_micro_dwc_server_emulator.cpp". A USB Wi-Fi adapter based on the Atheros AR9271 chipset (hard to recommend a specific one. I got some chinese model from Amazon. Just make sure it really is the chipset you want before the return period runs out) is passed through to OpenWrt, which provides a DS-compatible 2.4 GHz legacy Wi-Fi network. Otherwise, without that, you cannot connect a DS to it.

The DS connects to that network, and custom DNS redirection makes the game’s old Nintendo WFC/DQIX hostnames resolve to my local server instead of the original discontinued address. The Debian container serves the expected DQIX/DQVC responses, so the game can retrieve shop data like it could back in the day.

If you want to rebuild that: ...don't ask me. Most of this stuff was done by a friend who works as a software engineer. However, if you put the description of my setup into something like ChatGPT, I'm sure it'll walk you through the setup as well.
