Do the books usually arrive in pristine condition?

My first ever order of 3 books arrived today in the US. At prices of near $100 a book, I was hoping the packaging would be a bit better padded to avoid dents. Two books have dented corners. One of them was dented enough that made the first 200 pages (The Shining) get dog eared. That one I will be asking for a replacement because the bent page corners are very noticeable and distracting when I’m trying to read. The other (Rebecca) was dented on the spine side instead so it’s only an eye-sore on the shelf but not noticeable when I read.

Not sure if I should ask for a replacement for Rebecca.

But the bigger problem I have now is I’m rather hesitant to buy any more. 2 out of 3 books dented in my first ever order. Is this the norm? I don’t want to ask for replacements if they’re just going to end up the same way when they arrive again. And if the books frequently end up like that then this might be my first and last order.

For those who’ve been purchasing internationally for a long time, what are your experiences?

Thank you
