Watching Kalyasipalya (re-release) made me notice something I never did as a kid

Watched the Kalasipalya re-release last night purely for nostalgia. It was one of my favorite childhood movies and I genuinely enjoyed revisiting those iconic scenes on the big screen.
But this time I noticed something I never did as a kid: almost every scene involving Rakshitha felt heavily objectifying. It wasn’t just the songs, even regular scenes and camera angles seemed designed to focus on her body. Some moments, including a harassment/chase sequence, felt particularly uncomfortable when viewed today.
What surprised me is how normalized all of this was back then. And Kalasipalya isn’t an exception, many commercial films from that era had similar portrayals, but most of us never questioned them.
It made me realize how much our perspective changes with age. That’s why I find it interesting when people act like older mass movies were somehow more “pure” than today’s films. Many things being criticized now were already common back then, often more openly.
