I have found myself in a sand wasp predicament! This seems to have gone from 0-100 in 2.5 seconds😭the issue is in a horse riding arena, and I know I know these wasps are “not aggressive” but a 1,200 pound prey animal does not understand that. Also I cannot hear myself think over the buzzzzzzzing! Therefore, these wasps are the devil and we have waged war.
I have tried:
Watering the arena routinely to make the sand more “firm”
Dragging the arena every 3-4 days. From what I’ve read my drag may not be going deep enough to disrupt the cycle?
(More recently) spraying the entire arena with permethrin SFR - worked ok, not amazing but ok, for about 2 days. I directly sprayed the swarms and holes. Don’t ask me how long this took or how bad my farmers tan is from all this.
(Tonight) delta dusted what I could of my sand sized football field in the dark before the mosquitoes carried me away.
Can someone inform me of a better way to treat such a large area? When will this swarm die down? How can I make sure this problem doesn’t get worse?
