A weekend that began with uncertainty ended in electrifying triumph for Plano Girls Lacrosse, as a short-handed roster delivered back-to-back statement wins at the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSGLL) Super Regional in Austin.
Down four players and facing a full-strength opponent, Plano entered Saturday’s matchup against Canyon High School as clear underdogs. What followed instead was a performance that has since ignited chatter across the Texas lacrosse community.
Plano was forced to adapt on the fly—players stepping into unfamiliar roles, communication stretched thin, and endurance tested from the opening whistle. But adversity didn’t break them; it sharpened them.
Midfielder Quyen Duda led the charge with a commanding seven-point performance, while Kate Kolb added six of her own, fueling an offense that refused to slow. Behind them, goalie Olivia Patel delivered a career-defining performance, with a 70% save rate (to anchor a defense built on sheer determination.
When the final whistle blew, Plano had secured a stunning 13–8 upset victory.
“We knew what people expected when they saw our numbers,” said Coach Brittany Hancock “But inside our huddle, there was no doubt. Everyone stepped up, trusted each other, and played for something bigger than themselves.”
The win propelled Plano into Sunday’s second round against AWTY out of Houston—another formidable opponent. Though reinforced by a few additional players, Plano still entered the game short-handed, yet undeterred.
From the outset, Plano controlled the pace. Midfielder Eme Coker and attacker Reagan Farriello each netted three goals, setting the tone for a balanced and relentless offensive effort. The team’s resilience, sharpened the day before, carried through as they overwhelmed AWTY with disciplined play and unwavering energy.
The result: a decisive 15–6 victory with Emmerson Barker clinching a goal in the final seconds.
Attacker, Addison Hough reflected on the weekend’s significance: “This wasn’t just about winning games. It was about proving what this team is made of. Everyone sacrificed, everyone fought, and it showed.”
Two games. Two wins. One unforgettable weekend.
What could have been a setback became a defining chapter for Plano Girls Lacrosse—a testament to adaptability, leadership, and the kind of grit that turns adversity into i. As they advance to State finals this Saturday, one thing is certain: Plano is no longer flying under the radar.
