Need opinions from sealed Pokémon box collectors – does UV light actually help detect resealed Japanese booster boxes?
Hi all, looking for some advice from experienced sealed collectors / sellers regarding Japanese Pokémon booster boxes.
I recently received several Japanese “Inferno X” booster boxes from an eBay seller that I’ve bought from before. Previous orders from them were authentic with no issues, but recently I came across some discussions saying that you can use a UV light on the bottom/base of the box to determine whether a box is resealed or fake.
Specifically, people mentioned:
- Shine UV light on the white bottom/base of the box
- If the base does not reflects or reacts a certain way = authentic
- If it does reflect/react = potentially resealed or fake
I tested mine under UV and the base does really seem reflective, so now I’m unsure whether this is actually a legitimate verification method or just misinformation spreading around.
From my own inspection:
- Shrink wrap texture and seams look normal to me
- Corners and folds seem factory-tight
- No obvious double wrapping or excess glue
- Barcode and print quality look clean
- Boxes came sealed from a seller I’ve previously trusted
I’ve attached photos of:
- The box wrap/seams
- Side folds
- Bottom barcode area
- UV light test on the base
Would appreciate opinions from people experienced with:
- Japanese Pokémon booster box authentication
- Reseal detection
- UV light verification methods
Main question:
Is the UV-light-on-the-bottom method actually reliable for identifying resealed Japanese Pokémon booster boxes, or is it mostly a myth / inconsistent between print runs?
Thanks in advance.
