AITA for refusing to cover for my cousin after he lied to my uncle?
My cousin and I are both living with my uncle right now while we save money. My uncle’s one main rule is simple: if you’re coming home late, just text him so he knows you’re okay.
My cousin ignores this constantly.
Two nights ago he went out around 8 and didn’t come back until almost 4am. My uncle was pissed and asked me the next morning where he actually was because apparently my cousin told him he was “studying with friends.”
The problem is I knew that was bullshit because I saw him posting videos from a club all night.
I tried staying out of it at first, but my uncle kept asking if I knew anything. Eventually I just said, “He wasn’t studying.”
That was enough.
Now my cousin is furious because apparently my uncle threatened to kick him out if he keeps lying and disappearing all night. He says I should’ve covered for him.
I told him maybe don’t drag me into your lies in the first place.
My aunt is saying I technically didn’t need to say anything and could’ve stayed neutral, but honestly I was tired of getting dragged into his excuses every time he screwed up.
