I have high sensitivity to cooking smells that cause lightheadedness. What could this be?
In my household, my sibling and I have on and off weeks where we take turns cooking. Whenever it is my responsability to cook for everyone, I find that I have difficulty doing so without feeling lightheaded. I can muster it up to a certain point until the smell is really overwhelming — it has nothing to do with the type of food I cook, because this happens regardless. This also occurs when I bake desserts too. I end up having to sit down somewhere in the midst of cooking due to this issue. The feeling is almost like the scent completely envelops my senses to the point where I have to evacuate the area and take a breather.
I also have another concern with food where I just don't have the drive/cravings other people do. Eating food is more like a mechanism to me rather than something I enjoy, no matter how objectively good it is. The idea of food has just become generally unappealing, but that never prohibits me from getting my necessary calories for the day.
One final thing to note is that I do experience this overwhelming sensation in medical facilities as well, especially with the strong odours coming from the disinfectants and plastics. Same thing could be applied to whenever I use nail polish remover, or clean appliances around the house.
It has grown frustrating since my sibling has no related problems whatsoever compared to me. I don't have any pre-existing medical issues, and I'm not on any medication — there is no possibility of me being pregnant, either. This has been happening for as long as I can remember. Any advice or help identifying what this issue could stem from would be appreciated! <3 (I apologize for the long text, but hopefully the extra details make it easier to analyse).
