Me, my boyfriend, & my cat sick 2 years after wilderness & home reno exposure. High platelets, swollen lymph nodes, 10/10 head pain. Doctors won't test. Please help. (Only letting me share one pic idk why)

Hi everyone. I am posting out of absolute desperation. I am a female, and I have been dealing with a progressive medical mystery for nearly two years. I feel completely abandoned by the medical and veterinary systems, and I need advice from real doctors, dermatologists, or veterinarians on what this could be, or how to get a provider to take these physical symptoms and lab results seriously.
The Home Environment & Recent Renovation:
I live in a 2002 manufactured home in Ramona, California. During this two-year timeline, my house underwent renovations. My boyfriend ripped open the spare bedroom and left the insulation completely exposed. I am constantly cleaning aggressively every single day using HEPA vacuums and Honeywell air purifiers, and I have thrown away everything in my house three separate times to try and get rid of the source, but the environment still feels deeply contaminated.
The Exposure Timeline:
This started around November 2024. Around the same time as the home renovation, I was in nature walking my cat. I didn't see myself brush against a specific plant, but afterward, I looked down at my arm and found light yellow, spine-like structures embedded in my skin. Between the exposed insulation at home and the outdoor exposure, my health and my cat's health completely spiraled.
The Personal and Emotional Toll:
This has completely destroyed my life financially, physically, and emotionally. Out of sheer desperation to escape the physical sensations, I shaved my head. As a woman, my hair was my most precious asset, and losing it has completely destroyed my self-confidence. I am deeply embarrassed, isolated, and exhausted.
My Severe Physical Symptoms:
Intense, Debilitating Pain: I have severe, constant pain in my shoulders, my neck, and my lower spine.
10/10 Headaches: I suffer from constant, 10/10 headaches concentrated on my temples and the top of my head. The pain is so severe it keeps me awake for five days in a row sometimes. The resulting brain fog and fatigue are severe.
Swollen Lymph Nodes: The lymph nodes in my neck are very visibly swollen. I have shown them to multiple doctors who physically touch them, but they still don't say anything or order further testing.
The "Gritty" Texture & Mucus Membranes: I feel a highly distinct, sand-like or gritty texture all over my body hair, but it is especially severe on my scalp and my eyelashes. It is also actively affecting my mucus membranes, including my nose, my ears, and internally/vaginally.
The Hair Structures: Under close inspection, the affected hairs have a highly distinct look: they have a clear tip with a jagged hair shaft.
My Lab Work & History:
High Platelets: My blood work from multiple ERs and clinics consistently shows elevated/high platelets, but the doctors are completely ignoring it.
Abnormal Pap Smear: I recently received an abnormal Pap smear result. Given the other symptoms, I suspect this is connected to a localized or systemic fungal/yeast issue or severe chronic inflammation.
The Dermatologist Visit & Medications: I managed to see a dermatologist who claimed she didn't see anything and refused to perform a KOH prep (Potassium Hydroxide) smear or skin scraping. Despite refusing the test, she still prescribed me terbinafine. Because the doctors wouldn't run direct diagnostics, I eventually had to use TeleRX to obtain itraconazole and additional terbinafine myself.
Transmission/Shared Symptoms:
My Boyfriend: He caught this and is still actively experiencing the exact same symptoms. He moved out in February to Santa Isabel, but moving away did not stop the symptoms; he is still dealing with it there.
My Cat (Luna): Luna has developed circular, bald patches on her shoulders and behind her ears. She is actively losing weight and losing her strength, and I am terrified I am going to lose her. We paid nearly $200 for a standard ringworm culture at the vet, which came back negative. I also personally checked her with a UV blacklight / Wood's lamp, which didn't show anything.
What I need from the Reddit Community:
Given the combination of exposed insulation in a manufactured home, high platelets, swollen lymph nodes, 10/10 head/spine pain, the gritty texture, and my cat's hair/weight loss, I am trying to figure out what is happening to us.
If you are a medical professional, what does the combination of high platelets, swollen lymph nodes, severe cranial/spinal pain, and a chronic "gritty" texture suggest to you? Could chronic exposure to raw insulation/fiberglass mimic a systemic or fungal infection in the skin, mucus membranes, and lymph nodes?
Why would a dermatologist prescribe terbinafine but refuse to do a simple KOH prep to verify what they are treating?
How can I find an Infectious Disease Specialist, a toxicologist, or a provider who will take these physical symptoms and swollen lymph nodes seriously?
What steps can I take with a new vet to get Luna targeted treatment without relying on basic cultures or Wood's lamps that already failed?
Thank you so much for reading. Any direction could literally save my cat and my sanity

Does a cold sore look like this when it begins to form?

Hello I get these like single dots with a white ring around my lip line and sometimes a bit lower from my actual lip but it’s the same looking circle with a white ring around it/redness around it. They either stay like this or in a day or two become single white heads. Has anyone had something like this and confirmed it was a cold sore? Thanks

Bed sores

My 80+ year old family member had a severe stroke and is mostly unconscious. He weighs about 95 kg, has diabetes (blood sugar usually around 120–180 on), is fed through a nasogastric (nose) tube, and cannot move on his own.

He has developed a pressure sore on his upper thigh/hip area (photos attached). There is black tissue and open pink tissue, but currently there is no bad smell, no obvious pus, and the area does not feel hot.

We recently bought an alternating air mattress and are repositioning him as much as we can, but he still seems to be getting more pressure damage. Because he is heavy and unconscious, it is difficult to keep him turned, and he often rolls back flat.

My questions:

  1. Based on the photos, how severe does this look?

  2. What dressings are typically used for wounds like this?

  3. Is the black tissue something that can heal on its own, or does it usually need removal?

  4. How often should we reposition him?

  5. What nutrition is most important for healing, especially with diabetes and tube feeding?

  6. Any practical tips to prevent this from worsening or to stop new sores from forming?

Any advice from wound care nurses, caregivers, or people who have dealt with severe pressure ulcers would be greatly appreciated.

Do we think this is Lipedema?

Mind the last photo it was taken while I was washing my car. I’m only 24, is this giving lipedema? Or do I just have bad luck with cellulite?

Cocaine Use & Physical Side Effects

So, I’m just curious what anyone has to say. After cancer, I had a plethora of side effects that doctors couldn’t manage. The biggest ones being my exasperated ADHD and occasional blurry vision (feels like I’m opening my eyes underwater). I did cocaine one day and realized that all of my problems were solved. I understand that’s not healthy, but it is what it is. I also noticed that cocaine doesn’t elevate my blood pressure or heart rate. I literally have no observable physical symptoms from it other than I can think properly and see perfectly. I don’t really know what I’m asking here. Thoughts?

For insight: I only do a bump every 2-3 hours. I’m on 70mg of Vyvanse and 30mg of adderall, so it’s not like we can up my meds.

Is this a stye?

I’ve had a small bump on my inner eyelid for probably about six years now. Most of the time I don’t notice it at all but every now and then it feels like I have an eyelash in my eye that I can’t get out no matter what I do. I’ve been assuming it’s a stye but I also thought those were supposed to go away at some point and I’m getting sick of this

My friend really needs help. No doctor has been able to give a diagnosis.

Age: 26

Gender: F

Weight: 67kgs

Height: 5’4”

Current issues:

1/ Severe PMS symptoms: extreme low mood, irritability, back pain, cramps, body ache which starts almost 7-10 days before period date. Regular cycle of 30 days.

2/ Heavy flow during periods and extreme cramping and pain which does not reduce with any pain killer, heating bag, or anything else. Only cure that works most of the time is drinking the water of boiled coriander seeds (boiled for 25 mins).

3/ Gastro: swings in appetite from high to low. Low days feel like an intolerance to food, nothing feels appetising and the thought of eating is nauseating. High days feel like my stomach is a black hole and I could eat anything and everything. Episodes of burning sensation in the gastro system immediately post swallowing of food — even when on a healthy diet.

4/ Severe episodes of allergic reactions, often induced by stress and often due to no apparent reason. All allergy tests are negative. History of severe atopic dermatitis in mother.

Past issues:

1/ As a child, I used to have persistent stomach aches which were recurring and no cause was ever determined by doctors. Pain episode has been so high that I was given an injectable pain relief when I was 16. This issue now doesn’t exist as much and rarely appears. It just randomly stopped. Right now, the only thing that induces a similar pain in the abdomen is if I’m standing for too long. Walking does not cause it.

2/ History of anxiety, ED, and currently under treatment for MDD.

Family history:

Father: high blood pressure, high eye power, history of gall stone

Mother: atopic dermatitis, gastric ulcers, extremely sensitive skin that reacts to almost all unnatural stimuli, depression, anxiety

Brother: slight hypochondria (undiagnosed)

Grandparents: Schizophrenia, brain stroke, heart attack, depression, diabetes, severe obesity

Upper Abdominal Pain, Nausea, Back Pain

I’m a 27 year old male and for the past two months I’ve been dealing with upper abdominal pain, nausea, and back pain.

The upper abdominal pain is mostly right where my stomach is, but I often get the feeling of pain radiating to my left and right side just at the bottom of my ribcage, almost like a burning sensation.

The nausea can come and go. I noticed it gets worse when I drink caffeine or eat certain foods (junk mostly).

The back pain is mostly in the upper to center back. It’s like a low dull pain that can get worse if I move or sit in a certain way. I also noticed my upper back feels warm and tingly and sensitive. Almost like a mild sunburn.

I’ve also had some constipation lately.

I have gotten extensive blood tests and everything came back great. Normal lipase and amylase, CRP is perfect, liver enzymes are perfect. White blood count is perfect. Iron and iron binding is perfect.

And I have yet to have any of the concerning red flags. No jaundice, no vomiting, no oily or black stools, no diarrhea.

My doctor told me I should be taking Omeprazole, so for the past couple weeks I’ve been taking that, and I have noticed a noticeable improvement in a couple ways, namely the pain and the nausea. The upper abdominal pain went from a 7/10 to maybe a 3/10, and the nausea I’d probably say the same. The back pain got a fair bit better for the past week and a half or so but the past couple days it’s gotten worse.

So what’s wrong with me fellas?

Memory keeps getting worse and worse, scared of onset dementia

Hello!

23F

5’1

147 pounds

meds: vitamin D, urea for kp

conditions: GERD, anxiety, adenomyosis, orthostatic dizziness, lumbosacral radiculopathy

yes vape, no cigs, no drinking, no drugs

From age 6 I have experienced constant trauma. The worst years being 6-13. The years after were bad but not as bad. Those years included SA, all forms of abuse, and just constant repetitive trauma. I’m 100% sure i have CPTSD. I memory blocked so many parts of my early childhood. Some parts came back when I was 12.

Anytime anything bad happens, or i get hurt/ sad from something/someone, my memory basically erases it. Sometimes it even erases people. I can remember basic details like their name, i talked to them, but nothing more. I can remember their good parts but my mind completely erased all the bad. This has been bad over the years as I’ve gone back and spoken to these people again not remembering what they did at all.

My memory with random things and numbers is extremely good. I will remember random things and numbers to no ends. Though, I can’t remember anything in the moment, what I did this day or that day, and things told to me.

At work, when I’m told something, I forget. When instructions are told, I need them to be told in 3 different ways and then for me to explain it in my own terms for me to grasp what is asked of me.

I’m constantly in flight or fight. I feel like i’m living in autopilot. I don’t know what i’m doing, where i’m at, or anything. I think i must dissociate most my tasks.

What especially has me worried is yesterday, I was at work for 6 hours and then took my break. When I got into my car I was genuinely confused how I was there and the fact I was at work?

At times I forget simple words, my mind takes long to process things, and I’m just not as smart as I used to be (this is coming from someone who’s always excelled in school and other things i’m talking always 4.0 always grasped things easily).

As I age my memory gets worse and worse. Someone can tell me something in the moment and I’ll immediately forget. When I lose something I have to correlate it to something else just to remember where I possibly placed it.

People have told me the same thing over and over and I just don’t remember.

My memory is just really bad and good at the same time.

I feel like I have constant brain fog, dissociation, like i’m basically just a zombie. I don’t feel real.

I have no family history of dementia or alzheimer’s. My dad has OCD and a couple other mental disorders.

Growing up I always had extreme paranoia over everything. At times I’ve hallucinated and heard auditory hallucinations. I’m also 100% sure I have BPD, and i’m not saying that now as it’s trending it. I’ve been researching BPD since I was 16. I fit all 9 to the extreme.

I seriously think my brain is damaged. I have a neurologist but I don’t know how exactly to bring this up so that I can get tests done. I was seeing my neurologist for my numb legs (we later figured out it wasn’t a nerve issue but due to my adenomyosis), and my back pain (i injured my back a few times and my spine is mildly degenerating which doctors said is fine for my age).

I just don’t know what to do.

Pigmentation question

Does anyone know why I have this? It’s only on my left arm and I nowhere else and I’ve had it for as long as I can remember

These were near my 🍑 hole. What is it?

I haven’t had any relations (in a longgg time) so I ruled out herpes. It hurts really bad to go 💩 (sharp pain) and burns when I pee. When I’m sitting it’s kind of uncomfortable but doesn’t hurt. I thought I had a 🍑 fissure and it was itchy so I kept itching and then it caused a rash, but looking at this I’m not so sure anymore….. please help

What is this on my leg?

Looks like a burn but I have not burnt myself at all and does not hurt to touch. Been here about 2 weeks now, could it be ecezma? Its not itchy at all though 🤔

Bloody stool

20F. Is this normal bleeding for a suspected hemorrhoids? I am yet to have it checked by a doctor but will do soonest. It's been like this for the last week. The blood is not exactly on the stool itself but rather it drips out of my anus.
