Frequently, in this subreddit's debates about which skillset is meta, I see the argument: "Just look at the top 10 literally 8 of them are speed players." But this always makes me think: why stop at the top 10? Even if it's true, it would be weird to build your entire understanding of the game's current state based on a few laboratory-made aliens at the very top. To get a clearer picture, I analyzed the top 500 players using data from https://pp.huismetbenen.nl.

The most important thing to note is that this entire project is essentially an approximation, even if, from what I've seen, it's fairly close to reality. Result you can see on the image. For the calculations I used amount of total pp(excluding bonus pp) and the weighted values of skillsets(It's means that total amount pp for skillset being calculated like total pp, but only uses certain skill pp). Those values doesn't perfectly represents which skillset how much contributing for total value, but they good enough for this task.

Basically all calculations based on ratio between aim pp and total amount

ratio = aim_pp / (total - acc_pp - reading_pp)

we reducing total amount by acc and reading because those values actually doesn't depends on which skillset player belongs to, but sometimes they really mess up calculations. Some examples where it helped:
- WhiteCat, Alumetri - have relatively big amount of acc an reading pp, and despite being clearly aim players they was pushed to hybrid.

- Ivaxa - relatively doesn't have much of those, and was strongly biased towards aim category, even though imo he is perfectly belongs to hybrid.

Those are barriers for categories:

SPEED_PLAYER_THRESHOLD = 0.72 // If it's lower, than player is a speed player
AIM_PLAYER_THRESHOLD = 0.92 // If higher, than this is an aim player
// Everybody in between are hybrid players

Those values was hand picked based on results. Examples:

- If use higher speed player threshold, then chicony and zyntex would be considered speed players

- If use lower aim threshold then enri would be an aim player despite having very tapping heavy top plays

Worth mentioning that hybrid spikes after top 100 because most of the nm/hr low bpm stream players being considered hybrid, and there is a lot of them in that range.

Here is the final distribution of top-500 players by categories. Please If you want to comment in the style of "Why player X in category Y if he definetely should be on the another" first check their actual top plays to ensure that your perception of the player matches the reality. And keep in mind that to be in certain category - aim or speed player should be hyper-focused on certain skill, not just be slightly biased towards it, at least I tried to balance it this way:
