Has the “pp barrier” magic disappeared?

Back in the day I remember getting hyped at the pp barrier constantly being pushed in a forward motion, slowly getting to 1000 then even beyond it to 1700, but since then it just doesn’t feel the same. It was increasing by 100 until VOTD 1500 which really felt special, and sidetracked day 1700 also had that same feeling. Mrekk’s 1800 was probably the last record that has felt that way. I think it’s because we’re at a time where we want pp to be so optimized and fair that it’s actually ruining the magic of pp barriers and overall player achievement. Breaking barriers then getting nerfed then setting those numbers again then getting it nerfed just makes it all seem meaningless. Akolibed’s sidetracked day is now a 1300, just a complete change from the first 1700pp play in the game. Mrekk sets a 2000pp play, then it gets nerfed, then toro sets multiple 2000pp plays, then they get nerfed. The worst one has to be the 2600pp turning into 2000, which basically means that we will never see another real pp barrier break probably ever. and I’d bet that 2005 is gonna turn to 1800 or even lower in the future. It feels like the reworks are making history go back and back even though players are just getting better. It’s like if the first 2000pp play is the “first” like 5 times. Completely removes that magic. Before when we weren’t trying to be so optimized with reworks every milestone felt so legendary. I think we need to remember that this game is for fun

playing osu in college dorms

hi guys was wondering for those who played osu in highschool, were u able to continue at uni because im a tad worried that ima have to end my osu career especially w 2 other roomates. or am i stressin over a nothingburger and it was 100% fine.
