Wednesday, Enid and the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice

I'm a big fan of greek mythology, so I don't know how this didn't occur to me earlier. But Wednesday and Enid’s story is a near perfect reflection to that of Orpheus and Eurydice's.

Wednesday (Orpheus) gets a a vison of Enid’s (Eurydice's) death. Wednesday subsequently throws herself into preventing her fate, risking her own life and relationship with Enid in the process. Likewise Orpheus travles to the underworld to save Eurydice. ( This is not so much about bringing Enid back to life as it is preventing her demise, but my point stands)

Wednesday ultimately fails though, as her near death prompts Enid to transform and presumibly lose her humanity. (In this way, Enids werewolf state can be seen as somewhat of an underworld) Wednesday loses Enid, just as Orpheus fails to drag Eurydice back from the underworld.

Orpheus' fatal error was that he doubted that Eurydice was truely behind him, believing that he had been tricked by the gods.

Wednesday's tension is largely about her subconscious desire for closeness and her struggle to accept closeness, as she's shown to push people away again and again. Thus, Wednesday's fatal error this season was not trusting in Enid. That is in a way her "look back". Were she to inform Enid about her fate earlier things could have ended differently, but she didn't.

I guess that the set up for season 3 also follows a similar path, but only time will tell. Though, Wednesday physically chasing Enid across contenents and Enid’s state make for a much more direct comparison.

Overall, I just think the similarities are neat and I wanted to share with you guys. This is a pretty lack luster analysis that I just whipped up on a whim. Let me know what y'all think. :)

(Wednesday is also coincidentally a musician and I think that's neat. 😅)
