(1/??) Yet another Post-Axis Victory Cold War - The Fate of Europe; January 1, 1961

Following the conquest of the Axis's sworn enemies and the conditional surrender of the United States, multiple peace treaties were signed which diced up former Allied territories between the Axis Powers, most notable being the Sentoku Accords. The Sentoku Accords were signed aboard the Japanese Submersible of the same name, the accords had forced the US into accepting Japanese hegemony over the Pacific. The bombing and biological attacks had a double effect, surprising both the Americans (as they had just performed the trinity test mere months ago) and Germans (who, at the time, still believed nuclear technology was “Jewish Magic”), triggering a massive arms race between the three nations as well as causing a massive cultural shift in the United States. The bombing provided an insight into the destructive power of the atom, and the plagues had shown the true destructive power of modified illness. British and French African territories were split up between Germany and Italy, with Japan gaining control of eastern China and most of the Pacific Islands. France, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands were placed under a German-sympathizer regime. Spain gained pieces of former French colonies such as Morocco and Mauritania. Iran was given small areas in the former area of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. Turkey was given former Armenia, Afghanistan was given parts of British India as pseudo-colonies, and Yemen would finally be united as one.

After WWII, the Axis Powers would see a falling-out, mainly between those in Asia and those in Europe, breaking up into different spheres, setting the stage for the strained relations of the post-war era.

The Cold War is the current period of tripolar geopolitical tension between the Greater German Reich, the United States of America, and the Empire of Japan that began following the end of the Second World War. All three countries are nuclear powers (First tests respectively being; the "落雷" on March 10, 1945, near Hungnam (Konan), Korea; the "Gadget" on July 16, 1945, at the Trinity Site, New Mexico; and the "Uran-Waffe" on August 3, 1946 near Ohrdruf, south of Gotha, in Thuringia, Germany), making direct conflict practically impossible without a nuclear war. The Soviet Union is also a nuclear power (first test was the "RDS-1", also known as "Izdeliye 501" (Device 501) and "First Lightning" (Russian: Пе́рвая мо́лния) on 31 October, 1958, at the Semipalatinsk Test Site, Kazakhstan), but due to reconstruction from the war still being in effect, its power and influence not being comparable to the latter three, and its friendly relations with the USA (partly thanks to the immeadiate post-war aid sent to the USSR through the Marshall Plan), it has not been included as a Superpower and/or separate faction in the same way Germany, Japan, and America has. Therefore, the Cold War consists largely of economic competition, proxy wars and other rivalries. The term cold war is used because there is no large-scale fighting directly between the three superpowers. They do however, support regional conflicts and interfere in local national politics across the world to expand their own spheres of influence. Apart from the three main superpowers, the Italian Empire, the previously mentioned Soviet Union, and Greater Romania are also involved as third parties. The struggle for dominance is expressed via indirect means such as psychological warfare, propaganda campaigns, espionage, far-reaching embargoes, rivalry at sporting events like the Olympics, technological competitions such as the Space Race, and the backing of proxy conflicts worldwide. The hesitation for direct conflict is a result of the growing stockpiles of nuclear weapons each superpower has access to, ensuring that any direct confrontation between their nations will result in the destruction of human civilization. Aside from the Nuclear Arms Race, America, Germany, and Japan engage in covert means to spread influence and to suppress resistance movements within their territory and satellite states.

Europe is dominated by three major alliances;

The European ReichsUnion (ERU) is a military and economic alliance led by the Greater Germanic Reich, consisting of protectorates, the Reichskommissariats, partners, and allies. Its main goal is to maintain Germany's economic and political control over conquered territories and allies, preventing competing factions from gaining foothold. This sham of an Alliance aimed to promote economic growth, but instead made the German-dominated sphere economically fragile, isolating the region economically and bolstering black and grey markets across the ERU. Formed quickly after the Second World War, it has been the subject of several schisms due to their cold treatment of most of their former allies. Germany almost entirely dominates the alliance, with Britain and France coming in incredibly distant second and third places. In terms of cooperation in other terms, they're organized into a council, each nation getting a set amount of seats based on population, excluding colonies, as they each individually only add one vote. Due to this, Germany has propped up many “independent” regions (Belarus, Burgundy, Aryan Brotherhood) in order to still control the European Parliament with an iron grip. They are extremely isolated economically due to their knack for souring relations with everyone they come in prolonged contact with, only trading with the Collective Assistance Organization and a few neutral nations.

The Latin Axis was formed from the first ERU schism, where Italy, Spain, Portugal, Iraq and Turkey, along with their puppets, would leave the EU and form their own alliance due to perceived German aggression and dominance. It is a multilateral military alliance and economic sphere established by the Italian Empire, Spanish State, Estado Novo (Portuguese Republic), National Iraqi Republic, and Republic of Turkey to dissuade German aggression and secure their possessions from World War II. Despite being an alliance of equals, the Latin Axis remains an Italian-dominated sphere, causing tensions between its member states. By 1961, tensions between the Spanish State, Estado Novo and Republic of Turkey are at an all time high due to perceived Italian domination, with Italian control over the Suez Canal, competition over the Algerian, Syrian, and Greek lands, Portuguese liberalism, Spanish control over Gibraltar, and Turkish treatment of Greek, Armenian, Syrian, and Assyrian Christians being major areas of contention. Due to this sense of extreme competition, many colonial protectorates have been granted individual membership in hopes of swaying the Latin Council in one nation's favor or another. Though, it is far from being unsaveable. They trade with the UN, Co-Prosperity Sphere, Collective Assistance Organization, and Neutral nations.

The Collective Assistance Organization (CAO) is the alliance that formed after the Second ERU schism. It is a military and economic organization comprising of Romania and other former minor Axis powers and Axis Sympathizers, it was formed in 1955, following the end of the Second Hungarian-Romanian War (a war fought over the disputed region of Northern Transylvania, which was transferred from Romania to Hungary in the Second Vienna Award, but is still considered an integral part of Romania.) In which Romania and Hungary were both members of the European ReichsUnion, but, despite being a member, Romania was provided no aid in the conflict, while Hungary was provided with German military assistance. In the aftermath, Romania regained Transylvania, and, feeling it was betrayed and not provided with a supposed guarantee when it joined the ERU, left the alliance, causing other European ReichsUnion members to also leave, forming the Collective Assistance Organization (CAO for short). The alliance, due to its reactionary orgins, is mainly built around military and economic aid under all circumstances. Due to this, the alliance has mainly spent their existence propping up the nations of Paraguay, Afghanistan, the Gambia, Balochistan, Nigeria, and Pashtunistan, which also has caused a multitude of economic issues across the alliance, as the nations do not have enough members, nor do the current members have the economies to continuously dump money like this. It trades with the Latin Axis, Co-Prosperity Sphere, Comecon, UN, ERU, and neutral countries.

Europe rots.
