Steam Frame OS running on a vm
Hello everyone! This might not be the right subreddit to announce this, but after a long time working on it, I finally managed to run the real Steam Frame OS inside a VM.
It uses Alpine Linux under the hood and renders the actual SteamVR interface. I'm currently working on fixing the remaining UI issues, connectivity, and a few smaller problems.
I've already managed to get Bluetooth working inside the VM, and Steam account login works as well.
For the nerds: this project uses a handmade Venus graphics engine implementation to make it run on Windows through QEMU. It uses Gamescope and SteamVR to render the interface, and it requires a full Steam Frame OS recovery image.
It currently doesn't have sound support and is still in an early stage, but I'm planning to release the repository on Monday with the full source code.
The long-term goal is to get it running on rooted VR headsets such as the Quest 2 and potentially other devices.
Help and contributions will definitely be useful once the project is released.
