I'm going crazy and I have no idea if I'm the problem or the pattern

My mom bought me a kit as an early child day gift but I have a problem and it's driving me insane

Pattern goes like "Chain 1, work round in multiple of 6, slipstich into starting chain" and almost every round I have one more stich than I should. Like, I should just have multiple of 6 (Need 36, i got 37, 60? I have 61)

At this point I have no idea if I'm doing something wrong or it's just wrong...

Is there an error in this pattern or I just don't know how to count?

My mom bought me an early gift and I was really excited cause it's a basket of my favourite animal but when I look at instruction I saw it starts with Afghan stich. I watched some Youtube videos and tried it but I'm pretty sure I'm doing it wrong cause I've got this thing after few rows and I have no idea what's going on here
