Advice/solutions needed for too-big dress made with cotton yarn

I am working on the Dimensions dress by Mermaidcatdesigns and about 2/3 of the way done. Using sport weight, 100% cotton yarn with a C hook

Photo 1 of me in the WIP, photo 2 of the pattern

Originally it was fitting great but as it's getting longer and heavier, it's stretching quite a bit and starting to hang really baggy on me vs the form fitting style of the pattern.

Should I continue making the dress as is and then intentionally shrink it in the wash (since it's cotton)? Do I block and then sew up the sides to fit it?

Would love any feedback.

(Please ignore the stratches on my chest, I have dermatagraphia and they show up whenever I change clothes 🙃)

considering abandoning hours of work because the sewing has me stumped, read desc

feel like i’m missing something, because i cant seem to wrap my brain around this assembly. ive sewed tons of projects before but nothing this “specific” as far as posing and placement. now i cant even complete ONE stitch.
here are the issues im facing:
•insert needle in one spot, but then its impossible to have it exit even close to where i need it to, other parts prevent me from angling the needle as needed (tried to show in second photo)
•tried multiple different needles but unless i’m sewing perfectly through the holes between stitches, the needles get stuck
•everything is pinned in just the right spot (which was not easy) and i know if i take anything apart to sew together separately, there’s just no hope of getting it back into the exact right spot. even if i did, i’m kinda still stuck with the same
please help, ive put so much time into making all the pieces for this, and now the very last step is the one messing me up😭
(also i did try posting on amigurumi! but each time my post was automatically removed by “reddits filters” for some reason)

edit: yes this is a crafty intentions pattern!! i have tried regular sized curved and bent needles, maybe they make tiny ones? 😂

Has anyone made the butterfly cardigan? Do I trust the process? It's looks small but I'm using a hook .25 larger than the recommended.

Hi y'all! I'm crushing the butterfly cardigan and it's looking like it will end up being too small! I'm using the large graph and I'm using a 5.25 mm hook. The pattern recommends using a 5 mm hook but I wanted to ensure that it would be large so I went up the hook size. I was wondering if anybody else had an issue where they thought the cardigan was going to be smaller until they finished it and blocked it and realized it was much bigger. I'm worried that after blocking this will still be too small. I'm debating on frogging it and starting over with a 5.5 mm hook. Thoughts?

My dog ate my TEMPERATURE BLANKET, how do I fix it - FIXED!!

Thank you for everyone’s help, some people messaged me for the final product and I can’t figure out how to edit the post with a new picture, so here’s the fix!

u/Long-Rain-980 — 2 days ago

It does not lay flat on the bottom and, if I let it, it just folds into this fortune cookie-like shape.

Is this normal? I know it has something to do with the size or number of stitches or maybe I did too many increases at the start. I’ll be sad if I have to take it apart
It’s going to be the head to my plushie. No matter how many rows I add it won’t get taller on the sides (or what’s supposed to be the sides)

Vertical Stripe on Round Semicircle Shape of Amigurumi

Hi

I've been in a crochet turtle amigurumi obsession, and I've been trying various color combinations and patterns on the turtles. Right now I'm trying to make a turtle with the Gulf racing colors (light blue and orange) for someone who is into cars. I was using AI on a picture of a watermelon turtle I already crocheted to see in advance how I liked various color layouts, like where to place the blue and orange, or where to make stripes, etc. It came up with a very cute color layout, but I'm struggling with how to actually translate that into reality. The attached pictures are the AI's ideas. Ignore the watermelon seeds on the fins of one of them. That's a leftover from the original watermelon turtle that the AI didn't remove. My question: How can I make the vertical orange stripe on the round shell?

I have already made my own version of this where I crocheted the shell in the round, crocheted an orange stripe, and then sewed the stripe into the shell, but I don't love the result. It looked a bit lumpy and it was hard to keep symmetrical. I'd like it to be all in one layer, if that makes sense. It seems basically impossible to actually crochet a vertical stripe while working in the round and increasing in size and stitch count.

Is it possible to crochet the stripe and two other flat pieces and then join them to create the same semicircle shell shape? I can make the stripe easily, but what shape would the other two size pieces be? How would I create that? I'm not good at visualizing that sort of thing, and math is not my strong point, so I don't know what to do. Could I make the orange stripe, then attach the blue yarn on each side of the stripe to somehow create the rest of the shell?

Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful!

Do granny square tote bags sag when you put things in them?

I'm new to crocheting and thinking of making a granny square tote bag soon (like this https://vivcrochets.com/granny-square-bag-free-pattern-video-tutorial/ ).

My question before I start though is this: Can you put things like a notebook, wallet, phone, toiletries, etc. in one of these types of granny square totes without the bag sagging too much? Would I have to line it to ensure it doesn't get stretched out over time? Is there a type of yarn that would be better for more structure?

Thanks y'all !

Blocking a section of an Image done in lace weight yarn

I am making a set of images that will be stitched together to create a wall hanging for my husband. Im using Aunt Lydia's classic 10 to make the image with the dowel method for color changes. What I need help with is the blocking of the sections. When I wet block them the sections get really stiff so that pinning it is really difficult. Is there a better way to block the sections? Pic of one section post wet block

Looking for joining advice on big ass crochet blanket

Hey fellow hookers! I’m in the finishing stages of my rainbow block blanket made with DC (US terms) granny squares. I have been looking at videos and posts online but idk how I’m going to join these squares together. I’m using Hobbii cotton yarn 8/8 and a size H/5.0mm hook. There are 10 colors, 8 squares of each for a total of 80 squares. Some color blocks had to be finished with the border white because I ran out of the colored yarn.

This is all the finished squares laid out on a king sized bed. You can see that I started to border the squares with a HDC on the first 2 pink squares on the top left. I created a little color chart and numbered the squares but I have 2 big questions.

Question 1: will a HDC border around the squares be a large enough stripe of white to sash the squares when I join?

Question 2: I think I know the answer already, but is there a less intense way to join all these squares without weaving in MORE ends?! 😭 I think I want to do a Slip Stitch join on the back of the squares but I’m open to any and all input!

TL;DR: What do together? Weaving in UGH!!

Can I complete this Cathedral glass style blanket by December?

Hi all! I found this pattern and it's absolutely gorgeous. I'd love to make it for my mom for her birthday in early December, do you think it's feasible? I've been crocheting for about 2 years and am pretty quick and consistent with tension and everything but I haven't made a blanket before. My mom had a rough year (cancer, surgery, etc) and I think she would really appreciate something beautiful and handmade like this for her bday.

Pattern linked in case it has details that would help!

Thanks :)

My dog ate my TEMPERATURE BLANKET, how do I fix the hole?

There is always gaps in the same place in my work, between row 1 and 2 (Amigurumi)

I always only get these gaps in row two. For example, 6SC in a MR, INC x6. Please check both photos to see my work doesn't have holes in other places. Does anyone know what this is about?

Edit: edit to add if you see anything else I can improve on my work please point it out

Hand-died yarn skeins don't match. Should I frog a few rows of this shawl and alternate old and new so they blend better?

I was so enchanted by this hand-dyed yarn. I naively thought that the yarn skeins would match if I got them from the same dye lot, but I guess that's not a guarantee with hand-dyed yarn.

Is the difference noticeable to you?

I had an idea that I might frog the bit with the new yarn and the last section with the old yarn, and then alternate the two until I finish the old yarn so that it blends better. Has anyone tried this?

Any other advice?

Could someone please tell me what stitch this is, and is it even crochet?

Hello. I am trying to figure out if this scarf is even crocheted, it looks like crochet. If yes, what stitch is this. I thought it was camel-stitch but I am not certain of it.

How do you avoid a large gap in your magic circles?

Sometimes when I'm making magic circles, no matter how hard I pull the thread and tuck it into my stitches, I end up with a little gap in the center

How does one avoid this?

(included cat tax since he was a lovely background for this)

How do I do mosaic crochet without right side looking funny?

Had my first go at mosaic crochet and did negative stitch stitch. I’ve found my wrong side looks much better than my right side. The right side you can see where I have double crocheted in the front loops more

How do I even crochet with this yarn? It seems impossible

I'm trying to make a present for my niece and bought this yarn. It's my first time working with it and it's genuinely IMPOSSIBLE to crochet with, I cannot see a single stitch nor can i feel them. It's not like velvet yarn at all, you're going in completely blind!

First attempt at the star blanket and not sure if it's looking right

I'm attempting the star blanket but I didn't follow Betty's YouTube tutorial and watched a different one. This is my progress so far but I don't know if it's actually working or I should try the original creators tutorial/pattern? I'd appreciate any help please, thank you!

Edit: Thank you so much everyone, I really appreciate it! I have actually restarted it and I'm very happy that I did, it looks so much more better and my tension is not as loose now as well as the corners and points are more pronounced. Will upload a pic when more progress is done.
