Crocheting a waistband for wide hips but small waist

Hey everyone! I recently made shorts using this Tutorial (https://youtu.be/K8r44j125UE?is=nU75qgN40HYBmYHr)

Problem is the hdc blo waistband was not stretchy enough to get past my hips and still stretch back to a smaller size on the waist. I want to make the same shorts again but I really want them to sit high waisted. I'd prefer not to use a draw string as that's not the look I'm going for - if it's physically impossible without one I'll of course go for that option. I used acrylic yarn and steam blocked the piece.

(Tagged NSFW because of the cropped shirt and pulling the pants away from my belly) In the pictures you can see how loose the shorts fit and I have to say I still need to put them on very carefully as to not rip them with my hips. In the first picture I pulled them way up, they won't stay there and do slip down. Would a slip stitch blo waistband stretch back to my waist size if I make one that's stretchy enough to get past my hips? Thanks in advance!

Help figuring out a stitch similar to the attached image

Hi lovely crocheting people! I’m trying to work out a stitch from the attached image. The picture is from a top I saw in a clothing store, so definitely not hand made, but I’d like to make something similar for DD and I just can’t work out what crochet stitch / pattern would create those mini fans.

Any ideas?

I am making a sunflower tote and the more I crochet, the more the palm of my hand hurts. How do you manage this??

I am currently working on a sunflower tote bag and I always get pain in that bigger fat pad right under the thumb. This is the hand I’m holding the project with, not my crochet hook hand. Idk how I could help with this or if it’s just a muscle soreness that will go away the more I regularly crochet and the muscle gets stronger.

I accidentally bought a vintage pattern and I don't know what "finger 5 times to form 1p" means.

It's supposed to be a doily with flowers

Crochet Garments for Men/how to adjust patterns for men?

Hi all, I’m a fairly new crocheter looking to make my first garment. Since it probably won’t be that good, I’m wanting to make it for myself lol

I’m having trouble finding a pattern I love that’s for a men’s polo or even a unisex polo. Most patterns do not have any men modeling them so I have trouble envisioning what they would look like on me, and I don’t know how to adjust a women’s polo to look more masculine.

My questions are: 1. How can I make a feminine looking polo look more masculine? And 2. Should I just stick with something truly unisex (like a sweater) until I’m more experienced with garments?

Also any pattern suggestions would be appreciated. I’ve looked on ravelry and Etsy but no dice, though I’m not great at using ravelry. Thanks!

First timer on chrochet, why does my senile yarn shed when I take apart the stitches?

Did I buy fake yarn or something? Or is it a usual reacurrence? I made a slip knot and then the yarn over pull through thing, tried to take it off to try again and this happened... I had read that it would shed a bit but not that much.

Also if you would recommend a video tutorial on how to make a magic ring, it would be perfect.

Weird steel (I think) crochet hooks found at an estate sale

Found this hook at an estate sale and I havent been able to figure out why the end of it is like that. Anyone here know? It was in a box with a bunch of other crochet hooks

Can I take a lint roller to remove these little white fuzzies, or will that pull up the string and ruin it?

Looking for suggestions if its not a great idea...

Issue with linked double crochet stitches on filet crochet

hi. please bear with me as I am extremely new to crochet, I have only been in the hobbie for a week and I tried filet crochet for the first time yesterday on a bookmark with normal double crochet stitches and had no issues with my work looking messy. today I started this new project and used linked double crochet stitches as I read that it makes more opaque patterns but I’m getting this loose loops and I wonder if you could give me any tips and advice as to why this could happen and how to fix it. thanks a lot

How can I widen this - bathing suit cover up - relative beginner

Hi,
I made this swimsuit coverup for my daughter, but it’s too narrow. I have not stitched it completely together yet. I wasn’t sure if I add some rows on the sides (single crochet) or panels or what. This is only the second wearable thing I have made.

Why are some hooks so long? It makes my hand hurt.

I got that blue hook but it's so uncomfortable to work with. I wonder why it's so long.

Do you also find it uncomfortable or it's just me?

Edit: I'm dumb. The hook was sliding off the handle

What kind of stitch/stitches are used in this beanie?

I'm trying to recreate the black beanie for fun, but the perfectionist in me wants to make sure that I'm getting every single detail right. I've tried single and half double crochet already but it doesn't look right and I keep frogging the project. I'm also suspecting that it might be the yarn or hook that I'm using. The second image is for reference since I don't think the stitches are that visible on the black beanie. Thank you in advance !!

I am trying to understand and read these type patterns. How do I know that a stitch goes in a chain space or a stitch ? Why are half the chain spaces blank ? Granny squares

Are the chain spaces just copied from what you already see in the rest of the pattern ?

I need help deciding if this top I crocheted actually looks nice

I crocheted this cardigan but I truly cannot decide if it looks nice. If it is the proportions, my body figure or another factor that throws it off in my eyes, i cannot figure out. I am not used to these kinds of garments so maybe I just need some confirmation from people who are able to crochet.

I also tried it with different colored shirts under, does white or black look the best?

Grateful for your opinions and advice!💕

(I apologize if the pictures are bad, I feel really awkward taking pictures of myself)

Need some help joining lacey granny squares together

I'm trying to remake this bag I found on Pinterest, I can't find a patter or anything for it, not even a source so I'm just making my own pattern. The only problem is that I have absolutely no idea on how to join these granny squares together 🥲 I looked up online but I can find a tutorial for every situation expect this one

Can anyone help me figure it out? 💓🥹

Will chenille survive as a wearable or do I need to frog? Please advise me before I seal my ends with a lighter!

After reading your comments - I will not burn the ends don’t worry! Will just knot and weave as normal 🥲** **

Made a vest in chenille yarn just because I desperately wanted to use these colours specifically but couldn’t find them in any other material except chenille, I used a bigger hook to create more air holes and also made the arm holes bigger so that the fabric wouldn’t touch under my arms and get sweaty so I’ll need to wash it less often, but is it still a bad idea? Should I just frog it and make a blanket instead?
