High beam frustration got me thinking.....
Cars already have a “flash to pass” feature where you temporarily turn on high beam. But after seeing how frustrating night driving can become on Indian highways and village roads, I started wondering why there isn’t an opposite version of it too.
A lot of people keep using high beam because roads are poorly lit and low beam sometimes doesn’t feel enough. But constantly switching between high beam and low beam also becomes irritating and distracting during long drives, so many drivers simply stop dimming for oncoming traffic.
What if while driving on high beam, pressing and holding the stalk temporarily switched the car to low beam for 2–3 seconds and then automatically returned to high beam?
The delay could prevent aggressive flicking/spamming while still making courtesy dimming much easier and quicker.
I’m not saying this would solve the whole high beam problem or replace adaptive headlights/ADAS systems. It just feels like a cheap temporary solution for countries like India where:
- roads are often dark,
- high beam usage is common,
- and advanced headlight systems are still expensive.
Do you think something like this could actually reduce night-driving frustration and glare fatigue, or would people still misuse it anyway?
